Abstract

Mungbean is one of the strategic annual food crops that needed by Indonesian people because of the high protein and minerals. Production of mungbean in Indonesia always decreases. Cultural improvements are needed to increase productivity i.e by appropriate fertilization and plant density. The experiment objective was to find out the optimum dosage of organic fertilizer and plant density for the growth and yield of mungbean. The experiment was carried out using factorial completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor treatments were organic fertilizer which consisted of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 ton ha-1, while the second-factor treatments were planted density which consisted of 1 and 2 plants in the hole. Organic fertilizer of 5 ton ha-1 gave the best result for plant height, number of branches, flowering age, number of pods, fresh weight and dried straw, weight of 100 seeds, number and weight of seeds, small of seeds number and P nutrient uptake of the plant. The 2 plants per hole gave the best result for branches number, pods number and number of small seeds. Application of 5 ton ha-1 organic fertilizer and 1 plant per hole gave better yield. No interaction of organic fertilizer and plant density to mungbean growth and yield.

Abstract

Eleusine indica populations on oil palm plantations in Deli Serdang Regency have not been reported to be resistant to glyphosate. This study was aimed to report distribution and resistance classification of E. indica population on oil palm plantations in Deli Serdang Regency. The research was conducted on Weed Research Center in Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara from October 2016 until August 2017. This research used Randomized Block Design with recommended dose at 720 g a.i.ha-1 of glyphosate and three replications. Population ESU0 (from Politeknik Negeri Medan Ball Field) as a comparison. Data on average survival, mortality, dry weight, resistance classification of E. indica were analyzeds using IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software. The results showed that there were 12 E. indica populations classified as glyphosate-resistant (56.52%), 7 glyphosate-resistant developing (30.43%), and 4 populations classified as glyphosate-susceptible (13.04%) with the recommended dose at 720 g a.i.ha-1 from oil palm plantations in Deli Serdang Regency.

Abstract

Indonesia poultry consumption has increased year by year, with the average positive growth rate of 4.6%. This situation can be a chance for both small and large scales of poultry farmers, considering that poultry consumption is increasing every year. The rate of poultry production in Gunung Sindur was correlated with the amount of the existing poultry farms. Romli Farm was a small scale poultry farm in Gunung Sindur, Bogor. This poultry farm, with no partnership, could independently survive amongst the many other existing farms. However, although the opportunities were wide open, this business was not always viable for the farmers because many of small-scale farmers could not be able either to increase the income or to carry on the business. This research aimed to study the income, financial feasibility (NPV, IRR, Net B/C Ratio, and PP), the BEP of Selling Price, and the BEP of Product in Romli Farm.

This study was quantitative research with explanatory type. The analysis technique employed in this study was a Linear Regression; the sample consisted of 86 farmers living in the Sub Districts having widest organic rice farmland: Sambi, Mojosongo, and Andong. The result of research done by linear regression analysis using SPSS 23,0 program showed that the adoption rate of organic rice cultivation affected directly the sustainability of organic rice significantly with t-test probability (Sign) value of 0,017 less than specified α of 0,05. It indicated that seed preparation, land preparation, seeding, planting, fertilizing and maintenance affected the sustainability of organic rice cultivation in terms of economic and social.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to: (1) analyze the effects of different land tenure status on soil conservation level and (2) analyze the soil conservation level on production and income of upland rice farming. This research was conducted in Mausambi Village, Maurole Subdistrict, Ende Regency. Considerations in choosing a research village were seen from: a) the number of farmers who pawned agricultural land b) the extent of dry land and critical land c) the high percentage of poor farmers d) centers of food crop production and e) areas vulnerable to erosion. The population of upland rice farmers in Mausambi village was 214 people and consisted of 36 sharecroppers, 32 mortgagors and 146 owners. The method of sampling is cluster sampling, where this technique is a technique of selecting a sample from groups, small units or clusters. The sample size was calculated using Parrel formula. The sample size of land ownership status was 92 owners, 34 sharecroppers and 21 mortgagors. The analysis method used was multiple linear regression by including dummy variable of land tenure status and quantitative descriptive analysis. The result of the analysis shows that the farmers on land tenure status of owner are better in doing soil conservation efforts when compared to farmers on land tenure status of sharecropper and mortgagor. Owner dummy variable significantly affected the soil conservation level at 99% significant level. The positive sign means that the soil conservation level score on owner land tenure status is higher than the owner land tenure status of sharecropper and mortgagor. This is because in the owner farmers, the responsibility of soil conservation is higher than the farmers on other land tenure status. The well-done soil conservation efforts provide effect on the production and income of upland rice farming. The result of the research also shows that the land in the research site has not experienced severe erosion and soil conservation has been conducted but not maximized yet, especially on the aspect of contour farming, terrace treatment, terrace-strengthening plants, and tillage.
