Abstract

The estuary of Palu River is one of river in Palu city which becomes income sources for the local fisherman. The main catch is rebon shrimp (Mysis. Sp). There are many human activities along the Palu River which potentially produce waste that containing heavy metal including lead and copper metal which can contaminate the water. This research aims to find out the content of lead metal (Pb) and copper metal (Cu) which accumulated in rebon shrimp (Mysis. Sp) in the estuary of Palu River. This research used field observation method by taking sample of rebon shrimp (Mysis. Sp) in the estuary of Palu River. The content of lead metal and copper metal inside rebon shrimp (Mysis. Sp) were determined by using Spectro Direct device. Data obtained were analysed descriptively by comparing food standards based on the decree of Directorate General of Drug and Food Control Number 03725/B/SK/VII/89 and SNI 01-2729.1-2006. The research result showed that the content of lead metal inside rebon shrimp (Mysis. Sp) 0.57 mg/kg, which means lead metal has exceeded the specified threshold of food value (0.4 mg/kg). While the content of copper metal inside rebon shrimp (Mysis. Sp) <0.5 mg/kg still below the specified threshold (20 mg/kg).

Abstract

Study on the extraction of mercury ion had been done using emulsion liquid membrane technique. The aim of this study was to determine the optimum condition on mercury ion extraction in solutions those include variations in concentration of HCl solution (0.5 to 2.5) M and variation in concentration of mercury (15-35) ppm.This study was conducted using laboratory experimental method with benzoyl acetone as cation carrier, kerosene as membrane phase, HCl solution as an internal phase, Span-80 and Span-20 as surfactants, and mercury solution as the sample. Determination concentration of mercury ion in external phase was analysed using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The result showed that the concentration of HCl solution resulted in the optimum percentage of extraction with the percent extraction of 95.31% was at 2 M. In addition, the concentration of mercury solution resulted in percent optimum extraction of 96.58% was at a concentration of 30 ppm.

Abstract

Cempaka wood is a typical wood in Sulawesi Island and Maluku archipelago. This wood can be used for wood industry particularly for the manufacture of furniture. However, not only furniture can be produced from the wood but also the sawdust as the waste. This research utilized the sawdust of cempaka wood as biocharcoal to adsorb zinc and copper ions included in liquid organic fertilizer complement based on variation of weight and concentration of biocharcoal. The method used in this study was the spectrophotometry spectroDirect with sawdust of cempaka wood as the adsorbent. The results showed the characteristic of water content of biocharcoal was 4.05% while ash content was 7.75%. The optimum weight of biocharcoal to adsorb zinc ions was 40 mg with the adsorption capacity of 19.97 mg/g while for copper ions was 60 mg with the adsorption capacity of 16.16 mg/g. The optimum concentration of zinc and copper ions than can be adsorbed was 60 ppm with the adsorption capacity of 11.80 mg/g for copper ion and 9.29 mg/g for zinc ion.

Abstract

Rice cooker is used to keep rice warm and soft. During the warming process there is a change in glucose level in rice. The kinetic profile of glucose level change of rice in rice cooker is important to be done to determine an ideal time needed so that rice is suitable for consumption. The objective of this study is to determine constant reaction rate, reaction order, reaction speed, and half time of glucose level changes of rice in rice cooker. Method of this study is phenol-sulfuric acid, where modest sugar react with phenol in concentrated sulfuric acid produce a stabil orange colour, by using uv-vis that is bsorbed in 490 nm wavelength. The research’s result shows that there is a decreasing on glucose level in rice of mbramo type that is 32.2 ppm to 5.8 ppm for 40 hours kept in rice cooker. The changesof glucose level of rice in rice cooker following equation of one order reaction, with value of constant reaction speed achieved is 3.8 x 10-2/hour, half time 18.2 hours and reaction speed 0.5 ppm/hour.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine flavonoid and phenolic levels from the mangosteen bark samples. The preparation process of the sample was performed by extraction through maceration technique using HCl 1% in ethanol and for the phenolic using ethanol. Levels of both analit were determined using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at the wavelength of 510 nm and 700 nm for the flavonoid, and 765 nm for the phenol. The results showed that flavonoids and phenol levels in the mangosteen bark samples were 1.271 mg/g and 12.373 mg/g.

Abstract

The research about variation of volume ratio of membrane/internal phase and concentration of HNO3 in internal phase on lead(II) extraction by liquid membrane emulsion technique. Volume ratios of the membrane and the internal phases used were 2:1, 2:2, 2:3 and 2:4 while the HNO3 concentrations used were 1M, 2M, 3M and 4M. The chemical used in this extraction was benzoylacetone as chelating agents. The determination of extraction was performed by spectrodirect spectrophotometer. The results showed the largest extraction percentage on the extraction of the ion lead(II) in solution by using emulsion liquid membrane was obtained in the volume ratio of the membrane and the internal phases of 2:3 with HNO3 concentration in the internal phase of 3M. these numbers can extract the ion lead(II) as much as 238 ppm in 180 mL with the extraction percentage of 84.45.

Abstract

Students in the learning required to take an active role in the learning process . But in fact, there are still many conventional learning that found. This can have an impact on student learning outcomes. Therefore we need an appropriate learning modes and appropriate. One of the learning model that allows students to play an active role in learning is a model guided note taking. This study aims to determine the effect of application of learning models guided note taking on learning outcomes of students of class XI Science SMAN 2 Pasangkau school year 2013/2014. The research sample that is class XI IPA 2 as the class experiment with the number of students 25 people and XI IPA 1 as a control class with the number of students was 27 people. The data was collected using achievement test instruments. Testing research data using t-test statistical analysis of the parties to the prerequisite test was a test for normality and homogeneity tests. Average score of student learning outcomes using the guided note taking learning model was 66.14 while the average score of student learning outcomes that follow the conventional learning 52.5. Based on the analysis of statistical hypothesis t-test with the values obtained by the tcounted = 3.693 and ttable = 1.67. So, tcounted> ttable showing that Ho refused and H1 accepted. It can be concluded that the guided note taking learning model gives higher learning outcomes than conventional learning models.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of self-direct learning based on information technology toward learning outcomes of students in the structure of atoms material in class X SMA 9 Palu. The population in this study was students of class X academic year 2016/2017. The samples were students (n=26) in the class XA as an experimental class (learning by direct self learning) and students (n=25) in class XC as the control class (learning by the conventional method).The data collection was done using an instrument of test results of studying chemistry at the structure of atoms material is valid. The data testing were using t-test statistical analysis of the two parties with the prerequisite test, the normality and homogeneity test. The data analysis results obtained that an average score of the experimental class = 71.04 and for the control class gained an average = 64.80. Based on the statistical hypothesis testing of test two parties obtained that value tcalculation= 6,50and ttable= 2,00ata = 0,05. In this case, H1was accepted and H0 was rejected because tcalculation was in the rejection area of H0.This shows that there was an effect on differences in learning outcomes of students that were taught by self-direct learning and by the conventional method in the structure of atoms material in class X SMA 9 Palu.

Abstract

Dadap red (erythrina crista-galli L.) is belonged to the legumes (fabaceaea) family which, is one of the flowering shade plants that often used as an ornamental plant. This plant has a bright red flower, a taproot with root nodule bacteria nitrogen fixation and compound leaf consists three strands on each stem. This research is climed to proves that the extract of dadap red flower can be used as acid-base indicators. Dadap red flowers was macerated using methanol then filtered. The filtrate was ready to use as an acid-base indicator. The extract is tested in an acid-base, buffer solutions, and was compared with phenolphthalein for a strong acid with a strong base while a methyl orange a weak base with a strong acid. Based on the result, indicator of dadap red flower extrat in the strong acid was red colour, while in the weak acid was pink, and also in the strong base was dark green and in the weak base was purple. Furthermore, in the buffer solution, the indicator of dadap red flower extract gave four groups of colour change, namely red color at pH 1 to pH 6, colorless at pH 7 to pH 9, brown at pH 10 and blue at pH 11 to pH 12. Additionally, to attain the end point of titration, the indicators of dadap red flower extract gives a similar results with the comparison indicators. The results showed that the indicator of dadap red flower extracts can be used as an alternative indicator.

Abstract

Learning on teacher centered learning chemistry, causing the interest and creativity of the students do not develop. This condition contributes to the low of students learning outcomes. Students learning outcomes will be better is students experience for themselves what really happened. Therefore we need a method of teaching which is one oriented to students. This study uses a model of cooperative learning TSTS which is one method of teaching. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the application of the cooperative learning model TSTS on the subject of the periodic table of the learning outcomes of students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Dampelas. The study population was all students in the class X SMA Negeri 1 Dampelas academic year 2012/2013 consisting of six classes. The study sample consisted of two classes, namely class XA 32 students as the experimental class and the class XF 32 students as the class control are determined by purposive sampling. Results of analysis of data obtained for the mean score on the experiment class X1 = 76.50 with a standard deviation = 12.18 and the control class X2 = 57.81 with a standard deviation = 16.26. Based on the hypothesis testing results obtained tcounting = 5.21 and ttable = 2.00 at α = 0.05. In this case H1 is accepted and Ho is rejected, because tcounting is in the rejection of Ho. It can be concluded that the application of cooperative learning model TSTS on the subject of periodic system of elements had a positive effect on learning outcomes of students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Dampelas.
