Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of guided inquiry learning model with mind map toward learning achievement and motivation of students on Reduction-Oxidation in Class X at SMA 5 Palu. This study was a quasi-experimental design with a non-randomized pretest-posttest control group design. This study was carried out by holding two groups of Class X Sciences 1 as the experimental group (n = 31) and Class X Sciences2 as the control group (n = 32). Testing of learning achievement data of students used t-test statistical analysis of two parties with the prerequisite tests: normality and homogeneity tests of written test given after learning (posttest). Results of the data analysis showed the average value (i) of the experimental class was 56.48 with a standard deviation of 11.07, and (ii) of the control class was 46.25 with a standard deviation of 11.98. Based on the hypothesis test results with t-test statistical of two parties obtained -ttable ≤ tcountt≥ + ttable (tcount = 2.43 and ttable= 1.67) with a significance level of α = 0.05 and degrees of freedom of 61, then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Results of the data analysis of students motivation by using descriptive statistical analysis from the questionnaire of students motivation showed that the experimental class was currently on attitudes agree with the positive category of 82.58%, and the control class was on attitudes agree with the positive category of 83.78%.It can be concluded that there was an effect of guided inquiry learning model with mind map toward learning achievement of students, but it had no effect on the motivation of students in Class X at SMA 5 Palu on Reduction-Oxidation.

Abstract

Hibiscus tiliaceus is a tribe or cottons malvacea, it is known as sea hibiscus. This plant has been known for a long time ago. It is known as a shade tree in the curb or in the edge of the river and as the embankment along the coast. Although, the canopy is not too dense, it is preferred because its roots are not deep into the soil. So, it does not damage the roads and buildings. This study of hibiscus flower extract has been done. It proved that there was indicator acid-base. Hibiscus flower washed with distilled water, cut into small piece, then add dissolved acetate ethyl and macerated. After that, filtered and residue re-extracted filtering results with absolute ethanol. Extract filtered by using gauze filter, then filtered it again with paper filter paper. The filtrate is ready to use as as acid-base indicator. After that, evaluated with benchmark indicators phenolphthalein and orange methyl to titrate acid-base such as: a strong base with a strong acid, a weak base with a strong acid and a strong base with a weak acid. The result of survey revealed that the indicator of hibiscus flower extracts indicate the equivalence point in the titration result equivalent to the comparison indicator. The result showed the indicator of the hibiscus flower extract can as a substitute to synthetic indicator (phenolphthalein and orange methyl) has been used.

Abstract

Purple sweet potato (ipomoea batatas L.) is one source of carbohydrate. Purple sweet potato contains vitamins and minerals that needed by humans such as vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, and iron. The sweet potato with purple flesh is widely used as natural dyes which are called anthocyanins. The study aim was to determine a suitable solvent to extract the purple sweet potato. Variation of solvent used namely methanol, methanol acidified with HCl 1% and solvent fractionation (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol). The extraction phase was divided into two, for flesh and for the skin of the purple sweet potato. The extraction results were then compared with phenolphthalein indicator and a methyl orange on acid-base titration. The results showed that the methanol acidified with HCl 1% provided a more stable color changes in acid-base testing, and the testing of phosphate buffer pH 1-12. Purple sweet potato extracts can be used as an acid-base indicator because it gave similar results with comparative indicators, phenolphthalein, and methyl orange.
