Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the inhibitory concentration (IC50) of free radicals on an extract of calabash’s leaves and skins. The sample used in this study was the extract of calabash’s leaves and skins that made of 100 mg/L concentration. Determination inhibitory concentration of free radicals after adding DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) on the samples was determined using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Concentration variations in leaves and skins extract of calabash used was 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg/L. The positive control used a vitamin C solution with a concentration that identical to the concentration of sample 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg/L. In the other hand, the negative control used a DPPH solution that was dissolved in ethanol p.a. The results showed that the leaves and skins extract of calabash with control of vitamin C have a concentration inhibition of free radicals (IC50) respectively was 9.268 mg/L (leaf extract), 9.332 mg/L (skin extract) and 6.839 mg/L (Vitamin C). The matter it was indicated that leaves and skins extract of calabash was a powerfully natural antioxidant.

Abstract

Mango fruits contain several nutrients which are beneficial for the improvement of people’s nutrition. Vitamin C is one of which highly needed by the body and can be used as a source of antioxidants. Vitamin C level of mangoes is strongly influenced by their varieties, environments, places, fertilizers, maturity levels, and so on. Levels of vitamin C will increase until the fruit is ripe, and will decrease when the maturity level has been exceeded. This research determined the vitamin C level of gadung and golek mangoes based on the maturity levels. gadung and golek mangoes used as the samples were half-ripe, ripe, and overripe fruits. Analysis of vitamin C levels in the samples was done by iodimetry method. The results showed that the vitamin C levels of Gadung were 83.66 mg/100 g on the half-ripe fruits, 101.82 mg/100 g on the ripe fruits, and 92.85 mg/100 g on the overripe fruits. Whereas the vitamin c levels of golek were 57.72 mg/100 g on the half-ripe fruits, 79.30 mg/100 g on the ripe fruits, and 61,14 mg/100 g on the overripe fruits. The data indicate that the ripe fruits of mangoes contain the optimum level of vitamin C.

Abstract

This research is an experimental study.The aim of this study is to determine the effect of using accelerated learning and conventional methods for the learning result of class XI IPA MAN I academic year 2012/2013.The hypothesis of this research is there are significant effect between accelerated learning method and the learning result of class XI in reaction rate subject. Researchers took two classes to be used as the sample, which consisted of class XI Science II as a control with conventional methods and class XI science I as an experiment class with Accelerated Learning methods.Based on the obtained result, average value of student with conventional methods (grade control) is 6.47, while the average value of students with accelerated learning method (experimental class) is 9.67. From the t-test,was obtained thitung = 1.808> ttable = 1.66.This shows Ho refused and H1 accepted, so it can be concluded that there is significant effect between accelerated learning method with the learning result of reaction rate subject, rather than using conventional learning method. Accelerated learning method gave higher learning result than using conventional method in reaction rate subject.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of implementation a scientific approach through cooperative-jigsaw learning model on Stoichiometry to the learning achievement of students in class X at SMAN 9 Palu. The method was a quasi experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. The population was students of class X SMA Negeri 9 Palu, where the sample was class XB as the experimental group (n = 29) and class XA as the control group (n = 27), determined by purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed using nonparametric statistical Mann-Whitney U-Test analysis. The results showed output “Rank” for the mean value of the experimental class was greater than the control class, 33.14 ˃ 23.52. The output of “Test Statistics”, Sig. 2-Tailed (0,026) ˂ 0.05 and Zcount(-2.23) ˂ Ztable (-1.96), as well as each classical completeness and absorption for experimental class were 79% and 83%, while for the control class were 59% and 75%. This study concluded that scientific approach through cooperative-jigsaw model on Stoichiometry influenced positively to the learning achievement of students in class X at SMA Negeri 9 Palu.

Abstract

Cacao is a commodity crop growth in the plantation farmers, particularly in Central Sulawesi. Processed of the cocoa fruits are mainly as the food products. Furthermore, the cocoa bark just become rubbish. This study aims to utilize the waste of cocoa bark to be used as biocharcoal to adsorb lead metal ions. The method used was spectrophotometry, where the lead ions concentration absorbed was measured using a Spectrodirect spectrophotometer. The results showed that at the optimum contact time 90 minutes, the lead ion capacity adsorption was 97% and the lead weight adsorbed was 25.26 mg/g. The optimum weight of 60 mg, where the lead ions capacity adsorption was 96.88% and the lead weight adsorbed was 25.22 mg/g. The optimum adsorption capacity was 40 ppm, where the lead ions adsorption obtained was 99.61% and the lead weight adsorbed was 10.84 mg/g.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the comparisons of students study output of Class VIII of SMP Negeri 19 Palu, done by the implementing connected model of integrated learning - based cooperative learning and conventional model. This research was quasi experiment with pre test-post test control group design. The research sample was chosen through purposive sampling technique with two classes involving experimental and control classes. Those were Class VIIIA as the experimental class while Class VIIIB as the control one, who have the same class average value. The technique of collecting data was essay test consisting of five test items. The data analysis result showed that the average of post test and pre test score difference of the control class was 4.84 while the experimental one was 10.92. The result of statistical calculation of these two classes which tested through U-Mann Whitney Test with and 95%, degree of freedom was Zcounted < Ztable (-4.594 < -1.96). It means that there were significant differences of students study output between experimental class and control one. Therefore, the integrated learning can be applied at school in order to increase the students study output and the meaningful learning of students.

Abstract

The research about the balancing of redox reaction on chemistry subject has been done. This research was conducted on class XII IPA8 SMA Negeri 2 Palu with 28 of the student, in the first semester of the academic year 2014-2015. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative in which data processing use percentages and rating scale. The data is collected by observation sheets, questionnaires, and documentation. Implementation of lesson study on class XII IPA8 SMA Negeri 2 Palu is conducted in three meetings time (open class) with 3 phases; plan, do and see, respectively. Based on the results obtained every meeting by the researcher, the data activity of students is rising by 54.93, 59.86, and 74.30%. Furthermore, at the third meeting, the data obtained is an excellent category which means the student’s activity in the lesson study was increased. These prove that through the lesson study can increase the activity of the learning process of students. In addition, based on the data analysis of the student’s learning outcomes during three meeting times is increased. Average of completeness of student’s learning outcomes of every meeting is 67.85, 85.71, and 100%, respectively. Again, these prove that the student’s learning outcomes by classical can be increased through the lesson study.

Abstract

Red fruit (pandanus baccari) founded in Poso District was not familiar by many people. Red fruit contains chemicals that can be used as a traditional medicine for a wide variety of treatments. The purposes of this study were to analyze the content of potassium, calcium, and sodium in the extract of red fruit, and the solubility of calcium in the extract. Concentration of the extract was varied to 1%, 2%. 4%, and 6% to test the solubility of the calcium. Solubility of calcium in the extract of red fruit was determined by using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the extract of red fruit contained 30.35 ppm, 58.24 ppm, and 50.00 ppm of potassium, calcium, and sodium, respectively. Results of the solubility test of calcium in the extract showed that higher the concentration affected to the greater solubility. This can be seen from the difference between the lowest concentrations to the highest concentration in a row at 29.446 ppm, to 78.856 ppm, to 189.446, to 285.016 ppm. Thus it can be concluded that the extract of red fruit was possible to dissolve kidney stones.

Abstract

Clay is very important mineral in human life, especially as raw material for the fabrication of ceramics. Clay forms a mixture of minerals, which has a variety structure. The purity and type of mineral of clay as raw material determines the product quality of the resulting caramics. In this research, the type and structure of mineral has been characterized by XRD, XRF and SEM techniques and olso physical properties of the formation of clay ceramics have been axamined. The results of XRD characterization revealed that clay from Desa Lembah Bomban, Labuno, Parigi Motong regency contains kaolin, quartz, anorthit, cristobalite. Based on the results of XRF analysis, the clay contains SiO2 56.26%, Al2O3 23.18%, Fe2O3 4.99%, K2O 1.99%, MgO 1.73%, TiO2 0.980%, 0.841% Na2O ; CaO 0.840%. Physical characterization showed that from Desa Lembah Bomban clay was a less plastical type with linear drying shringkage of about 8.08%, linear firing shringkage 0.66% with total porisity of about 48.02%, and the compressive strength at 9000C about 8.135 x 106 (N/m2). SEM analysis results showed that the clay that has burned more dense than unfired.
