Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effective concentration of avocado leaves extract in lowering cholesterol blood levels in mice (Mus musculus). The animals test were 15 male mice and were induced with propylthiouracil and high-fat dietary food. Mice were divided randomly into 5 groups with different treatments. Treatments I, II and III were given avocado leaves extracts each with a concentration of 10, 20, and 40%, respectively. Treatment IV was given simvastatin suspension as a positive control, and treatment V was given (Na-CMC) 1% as a negative control. Data were analyzed statistically with analysis of variance (ANOVA) test followed by Duncan test. The results showed that avocado leaves extract contained positively of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and triterpenoid or steroids. Avocado leaves extract lowered cholesterol blood levels in mice with the most effective concentration was 10% (w/v).

Abstract

Study on the antioxidant activity test has been conducted using palado (agave angustifolia) leaves from Tondo, Central Sulawesi. Palado plant is one of the succulent plants that can grow to a large size, and it is possible to contain antioxidant compounds. This study was conducted by an experimental method using maceration extraction technique and 1,1-difenil-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) as the free radicals source, and vitamin C as the positive control, whereas UV-Vis spectrophotometer as for determining wavelength (λ) of palado leaves extracts. Sample used as much as 5 grams palado leaves, and methanol as the solvent. Variation concentrations of palado leaves extract were 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, and 140 ppm. The results showed that the IC50 value of palado leaves extract was 26.182 ppm. Palado leaves extract is classified as a very powerful antioxidant based on the IC50 value. The optimum percentage antioxidant activity of palado leaves extract in inhibiting free radicals was by 84.84%.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the distribution patterns and concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in the sediment at the coastal region of seagrass ecosystems Kabonga Besar village Donggala district. Phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) in water its are nutrient that is essential for the growth of phytoplankton. This research was carried out by quantitative analysis using a nitrogen compound Kjeldhal method which consists of three phases: destruction, distillation, and titration, while for phosphorus compound using UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The results showed that the lowest levels of nitrogen were obtained at the level of fertility sea grass sediments are less abundant range of 0.05% - 0.06% , on the contrary sea grass abundant fertility rate which ranges from 0.07% - 0.09%. For the highest levels of phosphorus nutrients contained in the water that is abundant on sea grass fertility ranged from 4.335 - 4.387 mg/100, and the lowest was ranged from 2.292 - 2.358 mg/100. Based on the data obtained it can be concluded that the content of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients in sediments sea grass at the research area was still relatively low, it could affect the growth of seagrass.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the cooperative learning model type teams scramble tournament games based scramble on motivation and learning outcomes students SMA Kristen GPID Palu. The population in this study were all students of class X. The research sample was students (n = 25) of class Xa as a control class and students (n= 24) of class Xb as an experiment class. The testing of student’s learning outcomes data was using the statistical analysis t-test of the two parties and the testing of student’s' motivation using the questionnaire data used a descriptive analysis. The average score of student’s learning outcomes of the experiment class (X1) was 52.83 with a standard deviation of 11.97 and the control class (X2) was 48.12 with a standard deviation of 11.37. Based on the statistical analysis of the hypothesis by t-test two parties, it was obtained that –ttable ≤ tcalculation ³ +ttable (tcalculation = 2.09 and ttable = 2.02) with a significance level a = 0.05 and degrees of freedom = 47, then H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted, therefore it can be said that there is a difference in student’s learning outcomes using cooperative learning model type teams tournament games based scramble. The results of the data analysis of student motivation indicated that the percentage value for the experimental class was 83.4% and for the control class was 81.21% and both were on the agrees attitude with the positive category, so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the cooperative learning model type teams scramble tournament games based scramble on motivation and learning outcomes of students SMA Kristen GPID Palu.

Abstract

Carbohydrates can be obtained from tubers such as cassava. Cassava is a plant from family euphorbiaceae and typical tropical plants. Cassava peel is a major waste that contains carbohydrates. The peel of cassava can be used as an energy source, namely ethanol.The purpose of this study is to determine the contents of ethanol through the fermentation process of cassava peel where obtainable from Malino village, Batu Daka West, Tojo Una-Una. The parameters in this study was content of ethanol that was obtained by fermentation using saccaromyces cerevisiae yeast. The fermentation process was conducted by varying day of fermentation, 4, 6, 8, and 10 days. The results showed the fermentation of ethanol with time variation respectively is 4.50, 5.20, 6.00 and 4.00%. In conclusion, it can be said that the highest ethanol content is 6.00% with the fermentation time of 8 days.

Abstract

Mineral is inorganic component which is in the human body. The needs of mineral for the body can be obtained by consuming fruits. Pineapple (Ananas comosus (L) Merr) is one of fruits contains mineral such as potassium (K) and sodium (Na). the objective of the research was to analysis the mineral level (Na and K) contained in pineapple flesh that spread out in Palu City. The analysis of Na and K mineral level used flame photometry analysis. The research result show that pineapple Cayenne varieties (common pineapple) contains sodium mineral as much 3.71 mg/kg and potassium as much at 376 mg/kg. The pineapple Queen varieties (Bogor pineapple) contains mineral sodium as much as 2.41 mg/kg and potassium as much as 198 mg/kg.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine differences of the student’s learning outcomes that was applied by collaborative learning model with technique think aloud pair problem solving (TAPPS) and was applied by lecture method in the hydrocarbon material against the student’s learning outcomes in class X SMAN 6 Palu. The collaborative learning model was think aloud pair problem solving technique on the hydrocarbon material class X SMAN 6 Palu. The type of research was a quasi-experimental with research design pretest posttest control group design. Population in this research was whole students in class X SMAN 6 Palu, academic year 2015-2016 consisting of six classes totaling 115. The sampling technique used was a purposive sampling. The samples in this research was an experiment class with 17 students and a control class with 8 students. Data analysis techniques used was non-parametric and statistical method of Mann-Whitney U-test. Research result showed the output Rank for mean score of the experiment class was bigger than the control class 22.41 ˃ 13.83. The output statistics test, Sig. 2-tailed (0.13) 0.05 ˂ and Ucalculation (78) ˂ Utable (93). From the findings of hypothesis testing, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted then it can be concluded that there were significant differences learning outcomes in the student’s with the collaborative learning model technique think aloud pair problem solving (TAPPS) with the lecture method on the hydrocarbon material against the learning outcome of students in class X SMAN 6 Palu.

Abstract

Jackfruit seeds are part of the jackfruit which were not used optimally. The seeds can be eat directly after boiling and can also be changed as flour because it contains carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. This study was conducted to test the levels of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats of jackfruit seeds after boiled at different times, which were 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats were determined successively using the phenol sulfuric acid, the kjeldahl and the soxhlet extraction methods. Levels of carbohydrates at various boiling times of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes were 49.06%, 43.68%, dan 42.75%. Levels of proteins were 3.928%, 3.84%, and 3.57%, while levels of fats were 5.40%, 0.95%, and 0.40%. The results showed that the longer the boiling time affected to declining levels of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Abstract

Putri malu plant (mimosa pudica Linn) is known to contain saponin which is antibacterial compounds that can be used as a preservative. This study aims to prove whether the putri malu extracts can be used as a natural preservative for tomato and to determine the concentration of putri malu extracts to preserve tomatoes. The extraction method used was maceration and iodimetric titration to determine the levels of vitamin C before and after preservation. The results showed that the putri malu extract can be used as a natural preservative for tomatoes and the most effective concetration in preserving tomatoes was of 6%, that was for 11 days. At this level of concentration vitamin C showed the smallest value among others concentration where it decreased from 36.373 mg/100 g into 34.613 mg/100 g of material.

Abstract

Vitamin C is known as ascorbic acid. The function of vitamin C is to help the synthesis of collagen and antioxidants that the body needs. Vitamin C can be obtained from fruits, and each fruit had different levels of vitamin C. This study aims to determine the levels of vitamin C in the fruit papaya, soursop, sugar apple and complexioned fruit. This study uses a volumetric method that uses a solution of iodine (I2) as the titer, and using starch as an indicator, and each piece studied every day for three days with the same treatment. The results obtained levels of vitamin C in papaya fruits in a row are the first day of 46.89 mg, the second day 34.6 mg, third day and 22.88 mg. Vitamin C in the complexioned fruits are the first day 82.28 mg, the second day 61.31 mg, and third day 37.14 mg. Vitamin C in the sweetsop fruit are the first day 49.83 mg, the second day 35.2 mg, and third day 20.46 mg. And the soursop fruit vitamin C content was obtained on the first day 62.42 mg, the second day 33.44 mg, and third day of 23.14 mg. The results demonstrated that levels of Vitamin C in four fruits had decreased each day since the time of storage.
