Abstract

Sumedang is one of the districts in West Java that has the natural beauty of mountains, hills, watersheds and cool air into a tourist attraction. The location is strategic because Sumedang major cities it is surrounded by Indramayu, Majalengka, Garut, Bandung, Subang and Cirebon. This condition is supportive in creating a strong local economy and sustainable based on agribusiness, tourism and industry by empowering local socio-economic potential. This is consistent with the concept of ecotourism development that expected to adjust to the capability, the typology and the ecological function of land that will directly influence the sustainability of land resources, preserve local technology, art and local culture, and increase incomes around tourist sites. The purpose of this study is to identify the potential and constraints of ecotourism developing in sub watershed Cikandung and Tampomas Mountain region of Sumedang district. The study used a qualitative descriptive paradigm case study method. The research location is the District Paseh, Surian, Cimalaka, Tanjung Medar, Tanjung Kerta, Conggeang and Buahdua. Data collected through observation and interviews. The informants are community members and stakeholders at village, sub-district and district. Research results show that the condition of natural resources in subdas Cikandung and Mountain Regions Tampomas potential to be developed as an ecotourism attractions such as camping grounds, hiking, sightseeing springs, waterfall (waterfall) and hot spring. In addition, the fertile rice fields and streams can be used for livestock and fisheries travel. In order to optimize this potential requires the construction of facilities and infrastructure at the site and to tourist sites as well as full public involvement in the planning and management is to fit the needs and culture of the local community

Abstract

The gap between the demand and availibility of rice production in Pandeglang District must be maintained and even increased in number to maintain the availability of rice in Pandeglang District. This research aims to analyze the sustainability of rice availability at Pandeglang District based on sustainability index and status using a RAP-RICE ordination technique with Multi Dimensional Scaling (MDS) method. This study used primary and secondary data. Results of the MDS analysis RAP-RICE ordinary technique showed that a sustainability index of rice availability at Pandeglang District was 51.88 which categorized as sustainable sufficient. Analysis for five dimensions (ecology, economy, socio-culture, institution and technology) showed that a sustainability index of rice availability at Pandeglang District for economic dimension was relatively high, 57.10, respectively, which categorized as sustainable sufficient; the index for institution, ecological and technology dimensions were 42.58, 40.88, and 27.86 respectively, categorized as less sustainable; and the index for sosio-culture dimension was 22.54 which categorized as not sustainable. Results of leverage analysis indicated that 10 out of 30 attributes were sensitivity influential to sustainability of rice availability.

Abstract

Margamulya, Pangalengan is one of coffee producing region with the Java Preanger arabica coffee brand marketed by Margamulya Coffee Producers Cooperative. Java Preanger is sold to domestic and abroad, so then coffee production should be available in large quantities. Productions by somefarmers is low becaused does not do maintenance properly. The purpose of this research is to know the impact of credit on arabica coffee income. This research used inferential quantitative methods. The analysis tested by Independent Sample T-Test. Sampling done by Simple Random Sampling methods. The results state that credit provides a significant difference in arabica coffee income for farmers credit recipients and non-credit recipients because their used for arabica coffee farming and for labor wages.

Abstract

Coffee is one of export commodity which planted in almost all Indonesian area. Pangalengan district is the biggest coffee production center in West Java. Farmer in this district produces, java preanger coffee, arabica coffee with a good quality and an excellent taste. Coffee agribusiness need an institutional support which help farmers to access capital and world markets. Margamulya Coffee Producer Cooperative (MCPC) is one of farmer cooperative with a lot of efforts to market their coffee to the world coffee market. The research purpose is to identify the role of MCPC in java preanger arabica coffee (JPAC) agribusiness and to formulate its growth strategy in order to encourage arabica coffee to reach at world market. The research used descriptive qualitative method with technical case study. Technical data collection is done through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results show that MCPC has an important role in developing JPAC agribusiness in terms of assisting production facilities procurement, guidance and facilitating coffee farming productivity growth, as well as implementing the processing and marketing of coffee. Based on IFAS-EFAS analysis, the position of MCPC is in cell II, namely Growth and Build, which means the development strategy is needed through Intensive and Integration strategy. SWOT analysis represents that there are 10 main strategies will lead the MCPC to compete in the world market of coffee. Therefore, MCPC should improve professionalism in its management, attempt to increase members (coffee farmers) loyalty and build coffee agribusiness integrated with the environmental sustainable agro-tourism development.

Abstract

Agricultural development continues to develop in tune with the development of agricultural innovation technology. In line with this, farmers are required to increase competitiveness in this era of globalization, therefore it is important to use participatory agricultural development communication by prioritizing local communities with their cultural dimensions as holders of power. The new communication paradigm places farmer groups as subjects of development that were previously always the object of development, the focus of agricultural development is directed at local communities. Agricultural instructors in their activities as agents of change in development always provide direction that can awaken the awareness of the farming actors. In addition, agricultural extension agents provide a forum or facilitate farmers to conduct training in the field of rice farming management, in particular the use of agricultural technology with innovation that can lead to increased productivity of processed rice products. The aim of this study: 1. Analyzing the role of agricultural extension agents in their existence in increasing agricultural development for the empowerment of farmer groups ? 2. Analyzing the relationship between agricultural extension officers in the implementation of participatory development communication for the empowerment of farmer groups. This study uses the positivistic paradigm using the survey method. Quantitative research is carried out in two districts in 8 sub-districts which are the object of research or unit of analysis, is a farmer group by taking a sample of 170 farmer groups. The research data were analyzed descriptively and explanatively. The results of the study are: a. The overall role of agricultural extension agents is in the high category; b. There is a significant correlation between agricultural extension and the implementation of participatory development communication.

Abstract

Horticultural enterprises grow at a slow pace in West Java. Only limited horticultural entrepreneurs are available in the country. This kind of phenomenon happens due to the loads of problems and risks the entrepreneurs need to face in operating their business. The amount of horticultural enterprises will increase significantly when the entrepreneurs have the ability and skill to overcome the obstacles and when the entrepreneurs have a courage to take advantage of the available opportunities. This present study aims to explore the supporting factors in running profitabel horticultural enterprises. The findings of the study show the general overview that the good entrepreneurship skills in horticultural entrepreneur area are supported by two factors; personal of the entrepreneurs and the available opportunities.

Abstract

One way to know food self-sufficiency through the quality of food consumption diversity as measured by Food Harvest Scale (PPH) scores, hereinafter abbreviated as PPH. PPH can be used as a measure of nutritional balance and food diversity consumed by residents in a region. The maximum PPH score, 100 indicates the diverse food consumption situation and both the composition and quality of nutrition (Baliwati, 2011). In practice, the achievement of food quality and quantity indicator in Bandung Regency has not been achieved. This study aims to determine the size of family, education level, and income level of PPH in Bandung regency. The basic method of this research is the explanatory method (Eksplanatory Research). The determination of Paseh and Pasirjambu sub-districts was conducted by purposive sampling, which is determined by the highest and lowest kecamatan PPH. Furthermore the size of respondents using Slovin techniques. To know the factors that influence the PPH in Bandung regency using multiple regression analysis technique and the test is done by using SPSS 20 program. The result of the research shows that the family size, education level and income level have positive influence on PPH Kabupaten Bandung. This means that the higher the size of the family, the level of education and income level then the higher the PPH in Bandung regency. Keywords: Family size, education level, income level, Food Pattern of Hope (PPH)

Abstract

Environmental natural resources prepared by non-biological or abiotic, biotic or biological resources, and human resources shared resources are merged into artificial cultural resources. For that management needs to be done in synergy between these three components, and is expected to impact positively on communities around the neighborhood in particular and society in general, which ultimately is slowly but surely will be able to improve the welfare of the community. Forms of Environmental Management conducted in synergy can be the technology im-plementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which combine some way to control the economic, ecological and social accountability. This research implement IPM on a red onion farming, because farming is a lot to experience problems, including the attack Pests and Diseases. The purpose of research is to analyze the technical and economic success of the implementation of IPM. In District Babakan, Cirebon. Respondents with census method making as many as 45 people, data used are primary data and secondary data, the data is tabulated and analyzed quantitatively. Results of the analysis showed that the red onion farming implement IPM technology is more advantageous and more efficient, when compared to conventional farming is done.

Abstract

Empowerment is an internal power owned by the community in tackling the problems of social environment. Humans as social beings naturally interact and depend on one another in a dynamic social environment. Social energy development is largely determined by the characteristics of individuals to interact with each other. This study uses (Mixed methods) or a combination of methods of Creswell (2009) with the apprach of explanatory squential strategic.This research was conducted in two districts of Jayapura and Jayapura city in Papua with the intention to analyze the characteristics of individual communities and analyze the relationship of the individual characteristics of communities with community empowerment. The results showed (1) the individual characteristics of society in Papua include: education level, income level, the level  of cosmopolitan and ownership of the means of communication is still relatively low, the level of motivation in the medium category, in the category of adult age, the majority work as a farmer / fisherman; (2) there is a relationship directly and indirectly characteristics of individual communities with community empowerment.

Abstract

Mango farmers in Majalengka Regency who have narrow land tenure tend to market their mangrove production only to traditional markets. Even if they are able to improve their agribusiness behavior, even smallholder farmers should have the opportunity to market mango production to the modern market which includes supermarkets and exports that will increase farmers income. The purpose of this paper are: 1) To analyze the characteristics of mango farmers in Majalengka Regency; and 2) Analyzing the determinants of mango agribusiness in Majalengka Regency based on their land tenure. The research method used survey techniques in Majalengka District as one of the centers of mango production in West Java. The sample of farmers determined using 130 stratification sampling techniques. Data analysis techniques carried out using descriptive statistical analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. The results of the study show that the proportion of farmers with narrow land tenure is 43 people (33.08%) while 87 people (66.92%) are mango farmers who are cultivating medium and wide land. Farmers who have narrow land tenure have a more homogeneous age than farmers whose land area is medium and wide, but more heterogeneous in terms of mango farming experience. The level of education of farmers with narrow land is lower than that of farmers whose land area is medium and wide. Factors that determine mango agribusiness in Majalengka Regency for farmers with narrow mastery, all significant factors are social factors, economic factors, technological factors, resource factors, institutional factors and cultural factors. Whereas for farmers with medium and broad mastery, significant factors are social factors, technological factors, resource factors and institutional factors, while economic factors and cultural factors are not significant.
