The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal has been organized and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published every May and November. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Social Sciences education, Humanities education, and any new development and advancement in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences education. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Historically, the Muslims in the early part of the eighth century AD (Anno Domini) are said to have denied causality and they maintained that God does not act through causality. “Causality” describes the relationship between cause and effect, and causality relates effects to their causes. It is interesting to note here that Professor Harry Austryn Wolfson from Harvard University discusses causality as understood and presented by Muslim theologians and philosophers. Muslim theologian and philosopher, Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (died 1111 AD), is said to have denied causality, and the Ash`arite theologians have agreed with him. On the contrary, Muslim philosopher Ibn Rushd or Averroes (died 1198 AD) is said to have affirmed causality, and the Mu`tazilite theologians also uphold causality. This paper explains causality in Muslim theological and philosophical works as well as to describe the theological and philosophical outlooks of Malay Muslims in relation to causality. To describe their thoughts of causality, this paper refers to the contents of the Malay Muslim theological works called the “Jawi books” since they have been written in the Malay-Jawi scripts. Five of them are referred in this paper. It seems that the Malay Muslims are not in favor of causality in their theological and philosophical outlooks.KEY WORD: Muslim theologians and philosophers, thoughts of causality, Malay Muslims, and Malay-Jawi scripts. IKHTISAR: Dari sudut sejarah, Muslim pada awal abad kelapan Masihi dikatakan menafikan kausaliti dan mereka menyatakan bahawa Tuhan tidak beraksi melalui kausaliti. “Kausaliti” menjelaskan hubungan di antara sebab dan akibat, dan kausaliti menghubungkan akibat-akibat atau kesan-kesan kepada sebab-sebabnya. Suatu yang menarik perhatian di sini bahawa Profesor Harry Austryn Wolfson dari Universiti Harvard membincangkan kausaliti sebagaimana difahami dan dikemukakan oleh ahl-ahli teologi dan falsafah Muslim. Ahli teologi dan falsafah Muslim, Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (wafat 1111 M), dikatakan menafikan kausaliti, dan ahli-ahli teologi Asha’ari telah bersetuju dengan beliau. Tetapi sebaliknya, ahli falsafah Muslim Ibn Rushd atau Averroes (wafat 1198 M) dikatakan mengesahkan kausaliti, dan ahli-ahli teologi Muktazilah mempertahankan kausaliti. Kertas ini menjelaskan kausaliti dalam karya-karya teologi dan falsafah Muslim dan juga menjelaskan pandangan teologi Melayu Muslim dalam hubungan dengan kausaliti. Untuk menjelaskan pemikiran mereka terhadap kausaliti, kertas ini merujuk kepada karya-karya teologi Melayu Muslim yang dipanggil “Kitab-kitab Jawi” kerana ditulis dalam tulisan Melayu-Jawi. Lima karya Melayu-Jawi dirujuk dalam kertas ini. Kelihatannya Muslim Melayu tidak memihak kepada kausaliti dalam pandangan falsafah dan teologi mereka. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Dalam kurikulum pendidikan guru, tamadun Islam diajar kepada guru pelatih dengan mendedahkan beberapa tajuk penting seperti konsep, ciri, dasar, prinsip, matlamat, sumber, dan keistimewaan tamadun Islam. Ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan ilmu ketamadunan demi memajukan ilmu pengetahuan seluruhnya dengan menggabungkan penggunaan teknologi maklumat dan kemahiran berfikir. Begitu juga untuk membekalkan bakal pendidik dengan ilmu pengetahuan dan ketahanan diri yang membolehkan mereka memahami serta menghadapi pergolakan dunia dan cabaran sesama. Seterusnya untuk melahirkan bangsa yang bertamadun tinggi dan sanggup memperjuangkan nilai-nilai ketamadunan yang luhur dan murni. Justeru itu, pembangunan modal insan, melalui tamadun Islam dalam pendidikan guru, dapat merealisasikan hasrat Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia dalam konteks pembangunan modal insan nasional dan sejagat. Unsur kerohanian merupakan asas pembangunan modal insan yang wajar diberi keutamaan dalam kehidupan manusia. Pembangunan modal insan juga berteraskan nilai akhlak yang mana seorang manusia mesti memiliki hubungan yang baik dengan Pencipta-Nya, sesama manusia, dan alam sekitar yang merupakan matlamat dalam tamadun Islam. KATA KUNCI : Tamadun Islam, Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia, pembangunan modal insan, dan negara-bangsa Malaysia. ABSTRACT: In the teacher education curriculum, Islamic civilization subject is taught to trainee teachers by exposing a number of  important topics about Islamic civilization pertaining to its  concept, feature, policy, principle, objective, resource, and specialty. This aims to expand the knowledge of civilization in developing knowledge entirely by combining the use of information technology and application of thinking skills. Likewise, it intends to supply trainee teachers with knowledge and personal resilience that enable them to understand and face world instability and current challenges. It also hopes to produce highly civilized nation who is willing to espouse the good values of civilization. Hence, the development of human capital, through Islamic civilization subject in the teacher education, can realize the aspiration of the Ministry of Education Malaysia  in national and global context. Spiritual elements as the foundational base of human capital development ought to be prioritized in life. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper presents how formative assessment can be used in large classes. In particular, this paper discusses the use of both internal and external feedback and how students may capitalize on using external feedback to help them process and take control of their own learning, making them self-regulated learners. A key argument this paper presents is that proper planning of assessment strategies in large classes provide avenues for students to use feedback from their teachers and their peers to guide their own feedback strategies in redesigning their works. Finally, a model of formative assessment angled at both external and internal feedbacks is proposed. The results proved that formative assessment is an important classroom tool in handling large classes. Particularly, in using formative assessment, the students take charge of their own learning, thus, giving their internal feedback which is critical in defining and redefining their works. Further, the results showed that timely feed-backing is necessary in order to achieve a well designed formative assessment plan. KEY WORD: Formative assessment, large classes, planning of assessment strategies, internal and external feedback, and self-regulated learners. IKHTISAR: Makalah ini menyajikan bagaimana penilaian formatif dapat digunakan di kelas-kelas besar. Khususnya, makalah ini membahas penggunaan umpan-balik internal dan eksternal dan bagaimana siswa dapat menggunakan umpan-balik eksternal untuk membantu mereka memproses dan mengontrol pembelajaran mereka sendiri, yang membuat mereka menjadi siswa yang mampu mengatur diri mereka sendiri. Alasan utama disajikannya makalah ini adalah bahwa perencanaan strategi penilaian yang tepat di kelas-kelas besar memberikan kesempatan bagi para siswa untuk menggunakan umpan-balik dari para guru dan teman-teman mereka untuk menuntun strategi umpan-balik mereka sendiri dalam merancang kembali pekerjaan mereka. Akhirnya, suatu model penilaian formatif berbelok pada umpan-balik internal dan eksternal yang disarankan. Khususnya, dalam menggunakan penilaian formatif, para siswa mempertanggungjawabkan pembelajaran mereka sendiri, sehingga memberikan umpan-balik internal yang penting dalam menjelaskan dan menentukan kembali pekerjaan mereka. Selanjutnya, hasil kajian menunjukan bahwa pemberian umpan-balik yang tepat merupakan hal yang sangat penting untuk mencapai suatu rencana penilaian formatif yang dirancang dengan baik. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Problem-solving is a cognitive process. Many studies show that curriculum has a profound effect on student achievement and plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ problem-solving efficacy. The primary purpose of the present study investigated students’ problem-solving efficacy at Science and Social Sciences and Humanities Universities and conducted to explore how students’ problem-solving efficacy at the two universities was affected by their curriculum learning experiences. The study used a questionnaire survey with 312 students from two member universities at Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City. Results of this study described that students’ problem-solving efficacy at the both universities was within the range of “average” to “high” response. Curriculum emphasis and learning engagement within two types of institutions indicated positive effect on their problem-solving efficacy.KEY WORD: Curriculum learning experiences, problem-solving efficacy, Vietnamese university students. IKHTISAR: Pemecahan masalah merupakan proses kognitif. Banyak kajian menunjukan bahwa kurikulum memiliki pengaruh yang sangat besar pada pencapaian prestasi mahasiswa dan memainkan peran sangat penting dalam meningkatkan kemanjuran pemecahan masalah. Tujuan utama kajian ini menyelidiki kemanjuran pemecahan masalah di bidang IPA (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam) dan Ilmu-ilmu Sosial dan Kemanusiaan serta dilaksanakan untuk menyelidiki bagaimana kemanjuran pemecahan masalah mahasiswa di kedua bidang dipengaruhi oleh pengalaman belajar kurikulum mereka. Kajian ini menggunakan survey kuesioner dengan 312 mahasiswa dari dua bidang di Universitas Nasional Ho Chi Minh City di Vietnam. Hasil kajian menggambarkan bahwa kemanjuran pemecahan masalah mahasiswa di kedua bidang tersebut berada dalam tingkat respon “rata-rata” hingga “tinggi”. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Kerencaman ras, bahasa, agama, budaya, dan geografi dikenalpasti oleh ramai sarjana sebagai penghalang kepada proses konstruksi bangsa Malaysia. Dari Rukun Negara, kepada Bangsa Malaysia, dan terkini 1Malaysia, pelbagai usaha telah dan sedang dilakukan pemerintah bagi mengkonstruksi sebuah negara-bangsa namun tidak berhasil. Tinjauan asas mendapati kompromi longgar pemerintah dalam mengintegrasikan kaum-kaum yang ada menyumbang kepada permasalahan itu. Berbanding di Indonesia, Thailand, dan Singapura, ketegasan pemerintahnya yang tidak berkompromi dalam mengintegrasikan kaum menerusi asimilasi paksaan dan perundangan yang ketat telah berjaya membentuk bangsanya mengikut acuan masing-masing. Walaupun dikatakan politik Malaysia ada kecenderungan untuk buta warna dek ledakan maklumat dan pendemokrasian, ianya masih tidak memperlihatkan tanda-tanda untuk hilang selama-lamanya. Justeru itu, makalah ini bermatlamat melakukan tinjauan ringkas terhadap proses konstruksi bangsa yang telah diamalkan dan melihat secara kritis gagasan-gagasan tersebut dalam konteks sains politik dengan melihat tiga sudut utama: ideologi, ras, dan bangsa sebagai komponen pembinaan bangsa.KATA KUNCI: Politik Malaysia, premordialisme, nasionalisme, perkauman, proses integrasi, dan konstruksi negara-bangsa. ABSTRACT: Its unique compositions that based on multiracial, multi religious, multicultural, and multilingual as well as geographically divided has been identified by many scholars as an obstacle to the construction of Malaysia nation. Several efforts from “Rukun Negara” (national ideology), “Bangsa Malaysia”, and the latest “1Malaysia” have been and are being made by the government in realizing the prospect but no avail. Initial survey has found out that tolerant government compromise to integrate the multiracial Malaysian has contributed to the problems. Compared to its neighbours, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, the persistence of their rulers who does not compromise on racial integration has forced assimilation through strict legislation has succeeded in forming their own nation-state. Even though the recent trends show there is a tendency of Malaysian to be colour blind due to some kind of democratization and freedom of information access, still however, it did not show any sign that racial politics will disappear for good. Therefore, this paper aims to make a brief survey of the Malaysia nation-building programs and critically look at these programs by looking at three main angles: ideology, race, and ethnicity as the nation-building components. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Kajian ini telah meninjau teori-teori kejayaan kerjaya seperti Teori Sosial Kognitif Kerjaya (TSKK), Model Lanjutan TSKK, Model Perilaku Proaktif, dan Model Bersepadu Kejayaan Kerjaya. Berdasarkan teori-teori tersebut, kajian literatur ini telah meramalkan beberapa faktor individu (seperti modal insan, personaliti individu, dan modal sosial) serta faktor kontekstual (seperti sokongan organisasi dan kesesuaian individu-persekitaran) dalam mempengaruhi kejayaan kerjaya ahli akademik. Di samping itu, kajian ini juga menerangkan tentang pengaruh perilaku proaktif seseorang individu dalam mencetuskan penglibatan mereka dalam aktiviti-aktiviti pengurusan strategi melancarkan kejayaan kerjaya. Kajian ini mempercayai bahawa kesemua teori dan model yang dikemukakan dapat menerangkan fenomena kejayaan kerjaya individu ahli akademik. Model-model tersebut telah dibangunkan serta boleh diaplikasikan pada pelbagai golongan, sama ada individu pelajar atau pekerja. Ini membuktikan bahawa model-model tersebut juga turut sesuai digunakan dalam kalangan ahli akademik di Universiti Penyelidikan di Malaysia.KATA KUNCI: Kerjaya, kejayaan kerjaya, ahli akademik, teori bersepadu, dan universiti penyelidikan di Malaysia. ABSTRACT: This study has reviewed the theories of career success such as Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), Advanced Model of SCCT, Model of Proactice Behavior, and  Integrated Model of Career Success. Based on the theories, this study has predicted several individual factors (such as human capital, individual personality, and social capital) and contextual factors (such as organisational support and individual-environment fit) in influencing the academic career success. In addition, this study describes the influence of individual proactive behavior in creating their involvement in management activities and strategies to launch successful careers. This study argued that the theories and models presented can explain the phenomenon of academic career success. These models have been developed and can be applied to various groups of either individual students or employees. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Menteng Atas is a sub-district (kelurahan) in Southern Jakarta, Indonesia. As a common crowded settlement in urban area, this location facing multi problems related to social and physical environments. The attempt to adapt and to survive of its various characters and the various origin demography of the community formed this area. This paper explored how members of Menteng Atas community perceive their everyday surroundings within the context of an environment that has rapidly changed, primarily due to urban development, and what they wants for the future of their environment. The study was start from the inside of the local community. A qualitative method with semi grounded research technique had been conducted. Symbolic communication varies from one situation to the next were founded by studying the accounts, explanations, and social action that are meaningful to a group of people. This paper is end up with some recommendations to achieve sustainable housing and settlement at this area. As an urban lower middle class community, they have not self-awareness toward macro scale issues that anytime may affect their area. However, their economic opportunity is good enough both considering the location directly bordered with urban commercial area. An integrated multidimensional planning is needed to upgrade potential environment and community at Menteng Atas that engage all related stakeholders.KEY WORD: Mentang Atas sub-district, urban settlement, built environment, local community, and housing improvement. IKHTISAR: Kelurahan Menteng Atas, Jakarta Selatan adalah salah satu contoh permukiman padat perkotaan yang berada di Jakarta. Seperti kawasan padat pada umumnya, daerah Menteng Atas ini menghadapi berbagai permasalahan lingkungan, baik fisik maupun sosial. Kemampuan adaptasi dan survival dari berbagai karakter demografi penduduknya menjadi salah satu pembentuk keunikan kawasan ini. Dalam tulisan ini dieksplorasi bagaimana komunitas warga Menteng Atas menjalani kehidupan kesehariannya dalam batas konteks interaksi dengan lingkungan fisik dan sosialnya, dan apa harapan terhadap masa depan kampungnya. Kajian dijalankan dengan metode kualitatif menggunakan teknik semi “grounded research”. Variasi komunikasi simbolik yang didapat dari satu situasi ke situasi berikutnya dikaji dengan perhitungan, penjelasan, dan tindakan sosial yang bermakna dari kelompok warga. Tulisan ini ditutup dengan beberapa rekomendasi terkait upaya pencapaian lingkungan hunian kota yang berkelanjutan. Sebagai komunitas masyarakat menengah bawah, mereka kurang memiliki kepedulian terhadap lingkungannya. Disisi lain, mereka punya potensi ekonomi terkait kedekatannya dengan sentra komersial kota. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Mass media can expand the horizons of thought and build sympathy, concentrating development goals so as to create a harmonious atmosphere, and effective development. The mass media has also the task social change in society, namely: (1) Expanding to horizon of view; (2) Focusing to public with messages written; (3) Rising the aspirations; and (4) Creating an atmosphere to build media. Mass media is often viewed as an effective instrument power for its ability to perform one or more several things such as: attracting and directing attention, persuade opinion and perception, affect the choice attitude, given the status and legitimacy, and define and shape reality perceptions. It is desirable once a mass media that serves as a counterweight, reformer, and herald of truth. This study tries to answer about the neutrality of the news stories related to socio-political issues. This study uses qualitative methods through a descriptive approach, observation, depth interviews, and literature study. The research results showed that the mass media about the social politics still less yet neutral. The results also showed that the news of media is still less yet neutral, exaggerating the problem, not provide solutions, and sometimes just give the sensation itself.KEY WORD: New media, news and views, communication, neutral, creative, provide solutions, and new changes. IKHTISAR: Media massa dapat memperluas cakrawala pemikiran dan membangun simpati, memusatkan tujuan pembangunan sehingga tercipta suasana yang harmonis, dan pembangunan yang efektif. Media massa juga memiliki tugas perubahan sosial di masyarakat, yaitu: (1) Memperluas  cakrawala sudut pandang; (2) Fokus kepada public melalui pesan tertulis; (3) Meningkatkan aspirasi; dan (4) Menciptakan suasana dalam membangun media. Media massa sering dipandang sebagai kekuatan instrumen yang efektif karena kemampuannya dalam satu dan banyak hal untuk menarik dan mengarahkan perhatian, membujuk pendapat dan persepsi, mempengaruhi sikap pilihan, memberi status dan legitimasi, serta mendefinisikan dan membentuk persepsi realitas. Media juga diharapkan berfungsi sebagai penyeimbang, pembaharu, dan memberitakan kebenaran. Penelitian ini mencoba menjawab tentang netralitas berita media terkait dengan isu-isu sosial-politik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberitaan media massa tentang sosial-politik masih belum netral. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Objektif penulisan ini adalah untuk meninjau semula isu perumahan dalam kalangan masyarakat bandar di Malaysia, khususnya dari segi kemampuan memiliki rumah sendiri. Di samping itu, isu-isu lain berkaitan perumahan bandar seperti masalah pemilikan rumah, faktor pemilikan rumah, persepsi terhadap rumah yang dimiliki, dan sebagainya turut dibincangkan. Satu kajian berasaskan kaedah tinjauan menggunakan borang soal selidik telah dijalankan bagi tujuan tersebut di beberapa bandar terpilih di negeri Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pulau Pinang, dan Johor. Seramai 400 orang responden dari golongan berpendapatan rendah dan sederhana terlibat dalam tinjauan ini. Penemuan kajian menunjukkan bahawa faktor utama dalam pemilikan rumah di kawasan bandar ialah mempunyai sumber pendapatan tetap serta ketersediaan kemudahan pembiayaan, khususnya dalam bentuk pinjaman sama ada oleh kerajaan mahupun institusi kewangan swasta. Harga rumah yang terus meningkat menyebabkan usaha memiliki rumah sendiri dalam kalangan masyarakat bandar berkenaan menjadi semakin sukar. Hal ini disebabkan harga rumah masih merupakan antara faktor utama yang diambilkira oleh responden semasa hendak membeli rumah.KATA KUNCI: Rumah, pemilikan rumah, kemampuan memiliki rumah, perumahan bandar, dan pembangunan di Malaysia. ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper is to review the issue of housing among urban dwellers in Malaysia with special reference towards affordability to home ownership. In addition, other issues with regards to urban housing such as problems related to home ownership, factors contributing to home ownership, owners’ perceptions on the houses that they own, and others are also touched in this paper. For these purposes, a survey using a standard questionnaire was conducted in selected towns in the states of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Pulau Pinang, and Johor. A total of 400 respondents from the middle and lower income bracket groups took part in the study. Findings show that two main factors contributed to home ownership in the urban areas and these are having a stable source of income and the availability of financing facility, especially in the form of loans whether from the government or private financial institutions. As the price of property keeps increasing, efforts made to own a house by these urban dwellers become more difficult. This is largely due to the fact that the price of a house is still one of the main factors that respondents take into consideration when making the decision to buy a house.
