Abstract

By heart, a principal will remain a classroom teacher. His/Her appointment was not only based on educational qualifications but more importantly on experience and expertise as a classroom teacher. As a teacher rises from the ranks, he/she continues to teach but with lesser teaching loads. Being the principal, he/she primarily the instructional leader of the school despite the more administrative responsibilities on his/her shoulders. Educational leadership experts believed that principals must their role as instructional leader is 70 % and as administrator is 30 %.  However, it has been observed that with the demanding administrative work, lesser attention is given to his/her role as an instructional leader. To find out how principals fulfill their role as instructional leaders, this study assessed the instructional leadership of principals in selected public schools in Metro Manila, Philippines. There were 150 elementary teachers who participated in the study. Using the contextualized Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale (PIMRS) by Hallinger (1982), it found out that the principals are fulfilling their roles as instructional leaders in terms of communicating the department’s development plans, promoting professional development, supervising and evaluating instruction, and providing incentives for teachers. However, they need to enhance their instructional leadership roles in three areas namely maintaining high visibility, monitoring student progress, and framing the department’s development plan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a cluster-based tracer study instrument that can be used to measure the absorption rate of graduates based on competency. This type of research is development. This study uses the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) i. The product appraisal instrument uses a quality assessment sheet involving material experts and an evaluation sheet which is used to determine the responses of stakeholders and graduates regarding the use of the product being developed. The type of data obtained is data about the process of developing a cluster-based tracer study instrument from the input of experts and graduates. The data analysis of this research used process data analysis and product quality data analysis. The results of the study were based on a feasibility test based on the material validator, assessment, and language validator which were assigned to the graduate assessment instrument with the criteria of "very suitable". The results of field trials showed the feasibility of the instrument as a tool for evaluating graduates was 86.5% so that it could be used as an alternative in tracing studies. These results are used as the basis for determining the success of higher education institutions in producing quality graduates

Abstract

At present, multiple intelligence has become a major concern in the world of education, but it is still dominated by the intellectual development of students, even though in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence were vital skills in preparing superior human resources. Preparation of superior human resources needs to start from an early age, especially in primary school education, so that the various intelligence and skills needed must be sown and developed systematically and sustainably from an early age. One way is to always improve the quality of learning through the development of appropriate learning models in accordance with the needs of developing superior human resources. One innovative learning model that is believed to be one of the ideal models for developing spiritual and emotional intelligence is the learning cycle model. Hindu religious teachings about the four ways of gaining knowledge and knowing God called Catur Pramana (Sabda, Anumana, Upamana and Pratyaksa Pramana) are predicted to be developed as a learning cycle model. The purpose of this research is to produce a model of the Catur Pramana learning cycle that is valid, practical and effective to improve spiritual and emotional intelligence. The research and development model used is the 4 D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate) according to Thiagarajan. The final score of the validity of the Catur Pramana learning cycle learning model by educational practitioners shows a category with an average instrument validity (ẋ) of 3.46. This data shows that the Catur Pramana learning cycle learning model developed has proper validity in terms of learning syntax and conformity to the curriculum. The effectiveness of the Catur Pramana learning cycle learning model can be measured based on the achievement of learning objectives and student development by implementing the Catur Pramana learning cycle learning model that has been developed. To determine the effectiveness of the Catur Pramana learning cycle learning model, it is done by assessing the level of spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence of students through a questionnaire. The method used was pre-experimental with a one shot case study design. The research was conducted in 2 classes. From the two sample classes, each measurement will be carried out on students' spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence.

Abstract

This study is an attempt to revisit the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF) vis-à-vis South Korea’s New Southern Policy (NSP). The focus is on the tech-voc education given PQF mandates concerning NSP’s agenda. The PQF-NSP alignment in the context of tech-voc is emphasized as inputs are provided towards quality tech-voc education in the Philippines. This qualitative study uses policy document analysis as a methodology, primarily involving PQF and NSP. According to Cardno (2018), policy document analysis is a significant instrument for leaders in the education sector as it also functions as a research technique. Policies are accessed through retrieval from website searches (Patel, et al., 2017). Harmonizing mandates provisions, and agenda of the NSP and PQF provides clear-cut directions towards quality tech-voc education in the Philippines. Institutionalizing qualifications and standards through the PQF serve as a mechanism to complement existing practices not just in the country but in the ASEAN region as well. As PQF acts as an instrument to advance policy planning, creation, and implementation, the Philippines affirms its role in contributing to the region’s qualifications framework by gaining recognition and impact.  This is a prime invitation for NSP to maximize and be an active partner in upholding quality and standards, and in this case, through the context of tech-voc education. Â
