Abstract

Islamic mutual funds as one of the financial investment products in Indonesia experienced rapid development in the last 5 years. Several studies have shown that the performance of a financial investment product is influenced by the macroeconomic conditions of a country. The purpose of this study is to determine the causality relationship and response of the performance of Islamic mutual funds in Indonesia when macroeconomic variables are simulated in an unstable state with an analytical approach using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Observations in this study were made monthly from 2015-2019. The dependent variable in this study is the Net Asset Value (NAV) of Sharia Mutual Funds as a reference to the performance of Sharia Mutual Funds in Indonesia, while the macroeconomic variable as an independent variable consists of the money supply, inflation, central bank interest rates, the rupiah exchange rate, and stock indexes sharia in Indonesia. The results of this study note that simultaneous macroeconomic variables in Indonesia affect the performance of Sharia Mutual Funds in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the origin of the political consciousness of Muhammadiyah. Thus, the paper aims to investigate the origin of the political consciousness of Muhammadiyah to be a reference for Muhammadiyah’s elites, functionaries, cadres, and members in the way of thinking and behaving, mainly in the context of political affairs. Methodologically, this article is qualitative research by applying two techniques in data-gathering: documentary and interview. The finding demonstrates that the origin of political consciousness of Muhammadiyah can be traced back into a fourfold thing: the influence of the Islamic reformist idea mainly coming from the middle east, the awareness of liberation from backwardness, the awareness of liberation from colonization, and the awareness of liberation from the Christian penetration.

Abstract

Excessive religious attitudes have shown an increasing trend among young people in some research results. This research intends to examine the transmission of anti-pluralism in the digital media space of millennial youth. For this purpose, researchers used a qualitative case study method by collecting data through site observations used by millennials, searching for documents on digital media, and interviews with several youths, some of whom had been influenced by the doctrine of anti-pluralism. The results of this study indicated that adherents of anti-pluralism had transmitted this understanding in the digital space of millennials through hyperlinks between sites. These links are used to transform understandings, among others: anti-difference, sole ruler of truth, thaghut, anti-Pancasila, and revolution. This transmission was an effort to carry out clandestine regeneration with the young millennial generation who are the primary users of this media.

Abstract

The article aims to describe Hasan al-Shafi’i’s view of uniting Sunnis theologically as an applied model. Through historical-philosophical analysis, this article found that Hasan al-Shafi’i viewed the need to unite Sunni viewpoints in the contemporary era. With his background in communication with the Islamic world and the West, Hasan al-Shafi’i confirmed the importance of understanding I’tidāl from al-Asy’ari theology. This theology rests on the spirit of harmony and tolerance, assuming that diversity is fairness and that plural life is the foundation of life that must be maintained. This view implies the restoration of theological relations between Sunni groups. Such a converged approach can serve as a model that is methodologically expected to enhance rapprochement on and off the Sunni spectrum

Abstract

Transformation on the women role can be considered as the process of developing the mankind civilization. In the past, the transformation of women had been more by the economic motive. Along with the turn of the century, the women role has not only been dominated by the economy-related motive and domain but has expanded to the domains that used to be occupied by men. As a result, such role transformation has brought certain impacts to the actors. With reference to the statement, the high figure of divorce law suit has been suspected as one of the impacts caused by the transformation. Therefore, through the review several efforts will be pursued in order to identify why, on the one hand, women have crippled the family resilience and, on the other hand, women have strengthened the family resilience. The results of the review show that the transformation on the women role have resulted in two different conditions within the family resilience. The vulnerability and the strength of the family resilience might at least be categorized into three dimensions namely the dimension of physical resilience, the dimension of social resilience, and the dimension of psychological resilience. In terms of physical resilience, both the vulnerable family and the strong family have relatively met their fundamental needs. On the contrary, there are differences in the other two dimensions namely the social resilience and the psychological resilience. In terms of social resilience, the vulnerable family and the strong family has displayed different quality on the aspects of conflict management, effective communication, and religious values. Similarly, in terms of psychological resilience the vulnerable family and the strong family has also displayed different quality on the aspects of positive self-concept, right and responsibility fulfilment satisfaction, family harmony maintenance, mutual respect and self-esteem, and compassion. The different quality on the dimension of social resilience and the dimension of psychological quality has resulted in the different end of the family life.

Abstract

In contemporary Islamic thought, religious pluralism has been a discourse that many Moslem scholars have introduced to the Islamic community. One of the scholars is Dr. Farid Esack, a South African exegete who is also well-known as a human right activist. Brought up under an apartheid regime ruling South Africa, Esack is of a certain opinion that religion should function to struggle against any unjust order. To make a radical and fundamental change, according to Esack, there is no way but to constructively reinterpret religious discourse and role so as to be a tool of liberation. Using yet controversial a hermeneutical analysis on the Qur'an, Farid Esack raises the idea of pluralism dealing critically with the struggle against oppression and toward liberation for South Africa.

Abstract

This study focuses on the tradition of Sundanese literary among the reformist Muslims. My object of study is a Sundanese book of poetic translation of the Qur’ān in the form of metrical verse or dangding entitle Hariring Wangsiting Gusti Nu Maha Suci (A Hymn of God Revelation the Most Holy) using translation approach and critical discourse analysis. The book is written by Muh. Syarief Sukandi (1931-1997). He was known as a member of Indonesian army, ‘ulamā’ and activist of reformist Islamic organization, Islamic Union (Persatuan Islam or Persis). Sukandi’s Hariring was published by Bina Insan Asy-Syarief Foundation in 2010. It contains 23 translations of the Qur’anic short surahs amount to 63 stanzas. He uses many types of metrum (pupuh). The study confirms that Sukandi’s Hariring tends to be a translation of exegesis (al-tarjamah al-tafsīriyyah) that was limited by the metrum rules. However, Sukandi’s Hariring is not only shows the influence of Sundanese nature, but also his effort to strengthen Islamic ideology which closer to pre-Islamic culture. It can be seen in the use of some Sundanese words of pre-Islamic period. It is an ambivalence that may be contrary to the purification ideology of Persis, because considered to contaminate the purity of Islamic teachings. It is a work of another side of reformist Muslim which do not keep the distance from local culture.

Abstract

This article is a criticism of the Islamic education aspect, which always shown with a model of normative deductive tendencies. Of course, it is an impact on the learners. It is challenging to understand because reviewed full of knowledge that should be skyrocketing grounded, ranging from things that are theocentric to the abstract, tend to ignore the real reality that it is where the students live and interact with people different from themselves. Moreover, the methodology of teaching and learning teachers are comfortable in matters of religion. That is more suitable to be indoctrination and did not effect on dialogic. Indeed, Islamic education should attach continuously to the historical circumstances in which personalities live.
