Abstract

Abstract: Rabies is a zoonotic disease caused by the rabies virus with a mortality rate of nearly 100% if not treated properly. The lack of public understanding about the dangers of rabies and the lack of awareness about the importance of hand hygiene as a preventive measure against infectious diseases such as rabies are health issues that need to be addressed through this education program. This activity was carried out as part of community service on August 21-22, 2025, at SMPN 3 Kutalimbaru Satu Atap, Namo Rube Julu Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, involving male and female students. The implementation method consisted of interactive counseling on rabies using educational posters, followed by an open discussion session and an evaluative quiz, and concluded with a workshop on making eco-enzyme soap using environmentally friendly materials. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the transmission mechanism of rabies, the characteristics of symptoms in animals and humans, initial steps to take when exposed to the virus, and practical skills in producing eco-enzyme soap as a sustainable cleaning product alternative and as a preventive measure against rabies. Participants showed high enthusiasm and responded positively to the material presented, as well as successfully raising awareness about the importance of maintaining hand hygiene. Thus, the rabies education program combined with eco-enzyme soap making training proved effective in improving students' knowledge and practical skills, so that it is hoped that this will become a healthy habit that is consistently applied in daily activities.

Abstract

Abstract: The use of antibacterial is a solution to treat various infectious diseases. However, the mismatch of the dose given can lead to bacterial resistance to these antibacterial substances. So, it is necessary to renew or develop natural medicines to kill bacteria and prevent resistance. One type of plant that can be used as a natural antibacterial is aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) because it contains several active substances including saponins, flavonoids, tannins and polyphenols which are thought to have antibacterial activity. This study used an experimental method with a laboratory observation approach. The technique used to measure the extra inhibition of aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) is the well diffusion method. The results showed that aloe vera extract (Aloe vera L.) in all concentration groups (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%) had a significant difference. with a probability value (p) 0.05, which means that aloe vera extract is effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Aloe vera extract ( Aloe Vera L) is effective in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Abstract: Dhuha prayer is a physical activity with light-moderate intensity that can induce the activity of the parasympathetic nerve and suppress the activity of the sympathetic nerve through the release of alpha waves of the brain. The intensity of exercise or physical activity with heart rate has a linear relationship. This study aims to determine the effect of the number of prayers on the heart rate of elderly Muslim women in the 2023 Binjai Senior Social Service UPTD. This type of research is experimental in one group community on all elderly Muslim women aged 60-80 years at UPTD. Social Services for the Elderly. The sample will perform dhuha prayers of 2-8 rak'ahs, and after completing 2 rak'ahs, will be measured by heart rate using a pulse oximeter. The results of the Pearson Correlation test showed a significant influence or correlation between the number of rak'ahs of dhuha prayer on heart rate (p=0.76). The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed significant changes in heart rate in each number of rak'ahs of dhuha prayer with a p0.001 value. There is an influence of the number of rak'ahs of dhuha prayer on the heart rate of the elderly and meaningful changes in heart rate in each number of rak'ahs of dhuha prayer.

Abstract

Abstract: Students are at a vulnerable age where they will experience a transition period from late adolescence to early adulthood. Individuals who experience stress and depression can increase bad health behaviour, such as irregular brushing of teeth, irregular dental check-ups at the dentist and neglecting oral hygiene. This will cause an increase in plaque accumulation, which is the main cause of periodontal disease, and a decrease in the resistance of the periodontium, which can cause inflammation. This study aims to assess the relationship between academic stress and the occurrence of gingivitis in 2019 FK UMSU students. This research is a cross-sectional study involving 67 students. Subjects were asked to fill out the ESSA questionnaire, and their teeth were examined. The data obtained were analysed using chi-square. From data analysis, it was found that the majority of respondents had the criteria for severe academic stress and mild gingivitis. The p-value obtained is 0.043, which means there is a relationship between academic stress and the occurrence of gingivitis. There is a significant relationship between academic stress and the occurrence of gingivitis in 2019 FK UMSU students.

Abstract

Abstract: Short-term memory has an important role in cognitive function, especially in the process of learning and remembering information in a short period of time. One of the external factors that is often associated with memory abilities is music. A number of studies have found that music can improve focus and memory, but there are also studies that show that music can actually interfere with concentration. This difference in results became the basis for a study to find out whether there was a difference in short-term memory between the group that listened to music and the group that did not listen to music in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental post-test with control group design and was analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed a significant difference between the two groups. The average short-term memory score for students who listen to music is 9.6486, while for students who do not listen to music is 6.3784 with a p-value of 0.001. These findings suggest that listening to music can have a positive effect on short-term memory improvement, especially when the music chosen is in accordance with individual preferences and supported by memorization practice.

Abstract

Abstract: Obesity is one of the main risk factors for hypertension. Women of childbearing age are prone to obesity due to an unbalanced diet, low physical activity, and hormonal influences. This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and blood pressure in women of childbearing age (20–29 years). This study is an analytical descriptive study with a cross-sectional design involving 72 obese women of childbearing age in Medan Deli District, Medan City, North Sumatra Province. Samples were taken purposively, with direct measurements of body weight, height, and blood pressure. BMI is categorised as obesity level I (58.3%) and II (41.7%). The majority of blood pressure was hypertension of the first degree (54.2%), normal (25.0%), and pre-hypertension (20.8%). The Fisher test showed no significant association between obesity and blood pressure (p = 0.634). There was no significant association between obesity and blood pressure in women of childbearing age aged 20–29 years. Young age and the possible protective effects of the hormone estrogen, which increases vasodilation through nitric oxide and lowers oxidative stress, are thought to play a role in preventing an increase in blood pressure despite obesity.

Abstract

Abstract: Diarrhoea is one of the health problems that often occurs in school-age children and can cause dehydration if not treated properly. The implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) and providing education on the manufacture of simple oralit solution is an effective preventive effort to increase the awareness and skills of students. This activity was carried out in the context of community service activities on August 20, 2025, at SMPN 3 Kutalimbaru Satu Atap, Namo Rube Julu Village, Kutalimbaru District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, involving 30 students. The method used is in the form of interactive counselling about PHBS through banner media, discussions, and quizzes, which is then followed by making an oralit solution using simple ingredients such as sugar, salt, and water. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, food, and the environment, as well as skills in making oral rehydration solution as a first aid for dehydration. This activity received a positive response from the participants, even though there were still obstacles in the form of limited time and sanitation facilities. Overall, PHBS education accompanied by the practice of making oral hygiene is proven to increase the knowledge and awareness of students, so it is expected to be able to become a habit that is applied consistently both at school and at home.
