Abstract

Banana peel contains fructooligosaccharide (FOS), which is useful as a prebiotic for the intestinal microflora of livestock, but easily rots. Banana peels were processed into silage with the addition of Javanese turmeric as a feed additive derived from herbal plants within 21 days of the ensilage process. The effect of Javanese turmeric addition on kepok banana peel silage was determined by its physicochemical characteristics. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications consisted of P0 (0% javanese turmeric + 4% EM4 + 6% molasses), P1 (1.5% javanese turmeric + 4% EM4 + 6% molasses), P2 (3% javanese turmeric + 4% EM4 + 6% molasses) and P3 (4.5% javanese turmeric + 4% EM4 + 6% molasses). The parameters observed were physical quality, fermentation quality, nutritional content, and water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC). The results showed that the addition of Javanese had no effect on the physical quality parameters and no significant effect on the fermentation quality, nutrient content, and water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) in the kepok banana peel silage compared to the control treatment. It can be concluded that the addition of javanese turmeric to kepok banana peel silage does not alter its physical quality, fermentation quality, nutrient content, and water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC).

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of liquid boron fertilizer on the morphological characteristics and biomass productivity of sorghum samurai 1. The research design used a randomized block design (RBD) 5 x 8, resulting in 40 treatments. The factor applied was liquid boron fertilizer with the following variations: A0= no boric acid addition; A1 = boric acid 10 ppm (equivalent to 0.360 g H3BO3/5L); A2 = boric acid 20 ppm (equivalent to 0.720 g H3BO3/5L); A3 = boric acid 30 ppm (equivalent to 1.080 g H3BO3/5L); A4 = boric acid 40 ppm (equivalent to 1.440 g H3BO3/5L). The results showed that 20 to 30 ppm does significantly increased leaf length, plant height, and chlorophyll content (p<0.05). However, there was no significant effect on biomass production, nutrient evaluation, and fiber fractions. In conclusion, boron contributes to the vegetative growth of the plant but does not significantly affect biomass production, nutrient evaluation, and fiber fractions of sorghum samurai 1

Abstract

This study evaluated the safety of binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Stennis) as a potential rumen feed additive through microbiological observations and in vitro fermentation characteristics. Microbiological testing used binahong leaf infusion extract with levels of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, then measured total bacterial and protozoal populations. In vitro experiment used a Randomized Block Design with seven ration treatments and three groups of rumen fluid collection times, with control ration (60% Forage: 40% Concentrate), and suplementation binahong leaf 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 12.5%, and 15%. In vitro parameters include fermentability (total N–NH₃ and VFA, microbial protein synthesis, and digestibility (dry matter and organic matter). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by orthogonal polynomial tests. The results showed that binahong leaf infusion extract up to 20% caused a linear reduction in total bacterial and protozoal populations but remained within normal ranges. The use of binahong leaf powder (TSB) in the ration of more than 7.5% resulted in a decrease in all in vitro variables to abnormal levels. In conclusion, binahong leaves are safe for rumen microbial activity when applied as an infusion extract up to 20%, whereas their use as leaf powder in dairy cattle rations should be limited to 7.5% to maintain normal fermentation, microbial protein synthesis, and in vitro digestibility.
