Abstract

This study aimed to: (1) develop thematic textbooks based on local wisdom for the materials about Our Best Friend's Environment for grade V elementary school students and (2) know the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of thematic textbooks based on local wisdom for the materials about Our Best Friend's Environment for grade V elementary school students. This textbook was developed by using Research and Development (R & D) method. The development stages included: (1) Potentials and problems, (2) Data collection, (3) Product designs, (4) Design validations, (5) Design revisions, (6) Product testings, and (7) Product revisions (Sugiyono, 2016). This study was conducted to 33 students from class V SDN 2 Sendang Kabupaten Jepara. The initial product development was a process of making media based on needs analysis. Expert testings or validation was carried out by 2 experts, namely media experts and material experts. The data in this study were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires. Then, the data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis and comparison test of two independent groups, namely by using the independent t-test. Based on the results of the trial, this thematic textbook was very valid, very interesting, effective, and could be applied in learning. This could be seen from the results of the validation by three experts showing that the product was good. Moreover, the results of the effectiveness test showed that students at the experimental class had better learning outcomes than those in the control class. The data were filtered and classified in order to meet the requirements of scientific work. The results of this study found that Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development was quite influential in education. In addition, to get the best results in the educational process, all of the components in education should be involved, especially educators who always had to adapt to students’ development. Moreover, appreciation and support for all forms of actualization of the students’ competencies should be provided in order to have a positive impact on the cognitive development of students.

Abstract

Slow learner children have barriers in complex thinking processe especially in language. Low IQ levels craft them difficulties to identify sentence structure which result in the disruption of their sentence production process. Also, these difficulties interfere their communication in learning process. This study aimed to present an overview of slow learners’ sentence production and its implications in learning. This research was descriptive qualitative research with interactive model analysis techniques. Data were collected through an observation of the students’ learning activities and in-depth interviews with shadow teachers and the principals. The results indicated that slow learners produced simple sentences like verbal sentences, nominal sentences, adjectival sentences, and prepositional sentences in forms of declarative, imperative, and interrogative types. Moreover, the schools had adjusted the learning components, such as the objectives, conditions, materials, and evaluations, to the learning process of slow learners at schools. One of its applications was a semi-separated class system, using interactive videos as a learning media, using companion books, and adjusting the evaluation of the learning system.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the needs of teaching materials based on Problem Based Learning, especially at grade VI SD Negeri Sukoharjo 01. The expected result was to support the design of teaching materials in order to improve students’ learning outcomes. This research was a research and development that implemented ten steps including potentials and problems, data collections, product designs, design validations, design revisions, product testings, product revisions, trial uses, product revisions, and dissemination. The needs of teaching material were analyzed based on teachers’ and students’ perceptions which was conducted on 50 students at grade 6 in the experimental class, and 40 students in the control class. The data were collected through a questionnaire for teaching material needs and a test of students’ learning outcomes. Based on the teachers’ and students’ perceptions, there were four aspects found in this research: (1) book content (88.5%), (2) language (92.25%), (3) presentation (96.25%), and (4) graphics (94.4%). Gain test indicated an increase on students’ learning outcomes for as much as 0.49 with moderate criteria from the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects. Then, t-test resulted 12.836> 0.05 which meant that the hypothesis H1 was accepted. There was a difference on the learning outcomes between the experimental class and the control class. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that based on the needs analysis, materials based on problem-based learning can improve students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

The aim of this classroom action research was to improve problem solving skills of the fourth grade students at Sekolah Dasar Negeri 2 Lambangan through the implementation of Problem-Based Learning model assisted by square puzzle media. This research involved 19 students as the subjects. This research was conducted in 2 cycles; each cycle consisted of 4 stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The independent variable in this study was a Problem-Based Learning model assisted by the square puzzle media. After that, the dependent variable was problem solving abilities. Data were collected through interviews and tests. The interviews were carried out to determine students’ interest in learning mathematics while the test was carried out to measure students’ mathematical problem solving abilities. Then, the data were analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that there was an increase on problem solving abilities in cycles I and II. The percentage of classical learning completeness increased from 63.15%, in cycle I, to 84.21%, in cycle II. The increase in problem solving abilities was caused by the implementation of Problem-Based Learning model which was student-centered. This model encouraged students to take an active role in problem solving activities. Besides, it was also supported by the use of square puzzle media which made it easier for students to build their understanding towards the materials about circumference and area of a two-dimentional figures (square and rectangle).

Abstract

This study aimed to test the feasibility of a 3D snake and ladde game to reflect the thematic learning materials from theme 6 subthemes 2 about “Taking Care of Animals around Me”. This study was conducted in June 2020 in one of the parents’ house of the second grade students of SDN 37 Pekanbaru. This research was motivated by the lack of learning media for primary school students. The learning outside the learning hours was important for students to have additional learning activities, working together in groups, respecting friends' opinions, and interacting. The 3D snake and ladder game was an interesting game. The development of 3D snake and ladder game was conducted according to the Research and Development (R&D) method with the procedure of ADDIE development models. The feasibility test of 3D snake and ladder game found that the prduct was valid with the validation rate of 87.5% from the media expert (very acceptable category) and 92.5% from the content expert (very acceptable category). Moreover, the percentage of students’ responses to the snake and ladder game was 95.97% (excellent category).
