Abstract

The empirical methods of intensity duration frequency are most often used with limited data. Its information is needed to design a drainage system. This study aims to obtain the best empirical method that can describe the curve of intensity duration frequency in Bekasi. These methods use the Mononobe, van Breen, and Bell methods and are then calibrated with intensity duration frequency curves derived from short-duration data (observation). The result shows that no empirical techniques best fit the words. However, the Mononobe method has fewer results than the Bell, van Breen, and observations. When the three practical methods were compared with the comments, the Bell method was the most suitable approach for determining the rain intensity for a return period of under five years. In contrast, the van Breen method was for a return period of more than five years.

Abstract

The strong column-weak beam is a design concept that needs to be implemented and considered in the planning of building structures (high-rise and low-rise buildings). Generally, structural failure occurs at beam-column joints. Such failure occurred due to the lack of attention to good and correct design concepts. The detailing of reinforcement for columns, beams, and beam-column connections has not yet fully implemented the SNI-2847-2019 standard which results in the reinforcement cannot withstand the combination of tensile, compressive, and shear forces that occur during an earthquake. In addition, the incomplete design of strong column-weak beam in building planning causes the building to fail in the column structure when receiving axial forces. The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural damage and the disaster management system applied during the earthquake in Palu. The research is carried out by investigation/survey methods on the study area as well as checking and recording the data about damage condition of buildings and conducting a hammer test (non-destructive test) to get the strength value of the concrete. Testing result showed the compressive strength value of the f’c concrete used is 20 to 48 MPa. In addition, the details of stirrups reinforcement are also not fully understood about their function on beams and columns, which results in the installation of stirrup reinforcement does not meet the criteria for bending angles of 90˚, 135˚, 180˚ and the addition of tensile and compressive reinforcement lengths. The high potential for earthquake hazard causes Palu and its surroundings tend to have an earthquake risk. For this reason, it is necessary to implement disaster mitigation for Palu region, which aims to reduce the number of casualties when natural disasters occur, both human and property loses.

Abstract

A reinforced concrete type retaining wall was built in 2017 to strengthen the slope stability of Rembangan highway, Jember Regency, Indonesia. However, in 2018 the building was damage. Until now, the cause of the failure of the retaining wall is still unknown. This study aims to evaluate the causes of the failure of retaining walls and the stability of retaining walls on the slopes of the Rembangan highway, Jember Regency. The research methodology begins with primary and secondary data collection before processing the data using conventional methods and auxiliary software. After data processing, data analysis was carried out to find conclusions about the cause of the failure of the retaining wall. Result analysis showed that the retaining walls have a low level of safety factor for rolling stability, shear stability, and bearing capacity stability. In addition, the factor of safety for the bearing capacity of the group pile foundation as a reinforcement of retaining walls also shows a smaller value than that charged. In addition, the group pile foundation can suffer a total settlement of 1.28 m.

Abstract

Pesaren beach is one of the beaches in Bintet Village, Belinyu District, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, where this beach has been functioned as a tourist area as well as a boat port for fishermen. A frequent problem in Pesaren beach is the abrasion that causes damage to local infrastructure; hence, a coastal protection plan is needed to prevent further losses. This research aims to find out the pattern of currents and sediments using the auxiliary applications, as well as to determine and plan the type of coastal protective building that is appropriate with the Pesaren beach conditions. Based on planning analysis, the dominant cause of abrasion is large waves from the north, as well as other factors, i.e., the direction of currents and sediments dominant that perpendicular to the coast; therefore, the type and shape of selected coastal protective buildings were proposed with the following specifications: breakwater with a height (HT) of 5.2 m, peak width (lp) of 1.5 m, total base width (b) of 26.7 m, breakwater (ly) length of 350 m, protection layer width (t) of 1 m, number of stones per 10 m² (N) of 86 grains, weight of main layer stone grains (W) of 0.179 tons, weight of second-tier stone grains (W/10) of 0.0179 tons, weight of stone grains at the core of the structure (W/200) of 0.000895 tons, and weight of breakwater foot grains (W/15) of 0.0119 tons.

Abstract

Potential problems of rock-slope landslide were found in the construction of the new shortcut 4 road on the BTS national road section from Singaraja City to Mangwitani, Bali, Indonesia. The source of landslide potential is from andesite with intense stiffness found during excavation work of the road body. The potential for rock-slope landslides can threaten the bridge abutment building above. The andesite-slope product location of shallow intrusion is exactly on the shores of Lake Bratan. This study aims to determine the level of elevation of the slope based on each type of failure as well as empirical treatment recommendations. The research method was done by applying a local geological mapping to determine rock types, field measurements by scanning rock outcrop locations, and a calculation of rock-mass-quality values using the Rock Mass Rating (RMR) method. Whereas the Rock Quality Assessment was carried out using the Rock Mass Rating (RMR) method, the slope evaluation was carried out using the Slope Mass Rating (SMR). The study used types of potential landslides and values, namely, planar landslides with an SMR value of 30.18 (Unstable) and a landslide probability of 0.6, wedge landslides with an SMR value of 57.6 (Partially Stable) and a landslide probability of 0.4, and the potential for tipping landslides with an SMR value of 47.6 (Partially Stable) and a landslide probability of 0.4. SMR values indicate that rock slopes require further handling/treatment to get a stable slope. In addition, the slope angle of 650 is sufficient.

Abstract

After earthquake and tsunami in 2004, Aceh Barat Regency had been trying to reduce disaster risk by making evacuation routes for residents from disaster-prone areas to high and safe places. However, currently several existing evacuation routes are in a badly damaged condition, namely the Alue Peunyareng - UTD Ujong Tanoh Darat Village, Meureubo District and the Meulaboh - Tutut Keuramat Village, Kaway XVI District. If the condition of the road is in a badly damaged condition, during the disaster evacuation process, this area will experience many obstacles, i.e., the level of driving safety and slower vehicle travel time. This study aims to evaluate the level of road damage on the two existing roads by comparing the Bina Marga and Pavement Condition Index (PCI) methods. The data was collected by field observations through measuring the level of damage, and the Average Daily Traffic (LHR) survey. The analysis results by two methods showed that the condition of the Alue Peunyareng - UTD road, Ujong Tanoh Darat Village, Meureubo District was very poor category with an average PCI value of 23.30 and the priority value of handling is 4 with periodic maintenance recommendation, whereas the Meulaboh road - Tutut Keuramat Village, Kaway XVI District was poor category with an average PCI value of 31.33 and a priority value of 3 with road improvement recommendation. The recommendation for alternative treatment is to replace the pavement by calculating the additional pavement layer thickness or by recycling the existing pavement for a more efficient cost.

Abstract

The Santer Riverbank which is located in Panggul Melati Hamlet, Kepanjen Village, Gumukmas District, Jember Regency, East Java is still used by the community for agricultural land. This research was conducted to create safe agricultural land for the community. Landslides on this riverbank often occur because it is located on the edge of the river and has a steep slope. In the observation in 2022, there is a collapsed riverbank approximately 20 meters in front of the river embankment. To prevent a longer landslide area, the slopes on the river border are optimized so that residents can still use the land safely. The selected reinforcement is made based on the geometric conditions and the results of the SF value from modeling the existing conditions using the Geostudio program. Appropriate reinforcement based on geometric conditions and SF values is a balancing method. close to the counterweight method, the geometric conditions are more optimal with the SF value increasing from 1.099 to 1.623

Abstract

Based on the preliminary test results, the original soil of the Sambi Boyolali area is classified as inorganic clay with high plasticity. It has a plasticity index value of 31.93%, therefore stabilization is required so that the soil is able to withstand the load of the structure above it. Stabilization was carried out by mixing the soil with ceramic waste that passed the No. 4 sieve with variations of ceramic waste 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% of the weight of the soil sample, which aims to determine changes in physical properties and mechanical properties (consolidation settlement) before and after the soil is stabilized. The results of the physical properties test of the soil after being stabilized with ceramic waste showed a decrease in the value of water content, specific gravity, liquid limit value, and plasticity index as well as an increase in the plastic limit value, shrinkage limit value and the amount of soil that passed sieve No. 200. Soil classification changed from inorganic clay with high plasticity in the original soil, to inorganic clay with low plasticity when mixed with 10% ceramic waste. The results of the mechanical test showed an increase in the value of the maximum dry volume weight of the soil (γdmax) as well as the value of the consolidation coefficient (Cv), and a decrease in the compression index value (Cc) and the consolidation settlement value (Sc).

Abstract

Soil condition in the construction of the Semarang-Demak II Toll Road Project on the northern coast of Java Island is dominated by soft soil. Soft soil has the potential to cause problems such as relatively low permeability, poor bearing capacity, and large long-term settlements that will cause damage to the construction above it in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the soft soil capacity, one of which is the Preloading and PVD-PHD combination method. This study aims to evaluate the value of settlement and consolidation time of embankment on soft soil between design and construction. The research method is carried out by field investigation/survey methods to obtain data on the settlement magnitude and consolidation time of embankment, and find possible causes of differences. The study found that there were differences in the value of the settlement and the consolidation time between the design and actual conditions in the field. The final settlement when the degree of consolidation reached 90% was observed to be almost the same between the design and actual condition, where the difference was 0.0063 meters or 2.81%. However, a significant difference was found between the time of consolidation for design and construction, which was 28 days (14.70%) faster than the estimation time. Factors that influence the difference in consolidation time, include: the volume weight of the preloading embankment in the field is 1.65 kN/m3 (9.70%) higher than the plan, the embankment elevation in the field is 0.237 meters (3.36%) higher than the design, and the use of drainage well to dissipate water trapped in the “trap-zone” in the middle of the embankment.

Abstract

Over the course construction of Tugu Reservoir, it is proposed to build a spillway gate to increase its performance as a flood control infrastructure. The construction planning of spillway gate requires a calculation of design flood discharge for Tugu Reservoir Catchment Area. The latest calculation was carried out during its construction planning in 2010. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate and recalculate the design flood discharge using the latest data. This study aims to model design flood discharge of Tugu Reservoir Catchment Area using HEC-HMS software. This software is able to simulate rainfall-runoff modeling in a catchment area. Based on field conditions, Tugu Reservoir catchment has parameters, curve number value of 79, impervious value of 5%, and a lag time of 4.81 minutes. The result of the HEC-HMS modeling shows that the design flood discharge of Tugu Reservoir for Q100 is 369,30 m3/s; Q1000 is 656,70 m3/s; and QPMF is 995.30 m3/s. Based on the test using Creager Graph, the design flood discharge for Tugu Reservoir is still in the reasonable category with C value below 100. The result of the HEC-HMS modeling is not much different from the calculation result of Tugu Reservoir Construction Planning in 2010.
