Abstract

The study aims at shedding light on the role of the reader and interpretation in reproducing literary texts. Also, it aims at analyzing Al-Amidi's critical position on Abu Tammam's poetry, and exploring the foundations he relied on in his comparison between him and Al-Buhturi by revealing the mechanisms of interpretation used by Al-Amidi, and the extent of his success in absorbing the specificity of Abu Tammam's poetry. The study aims also at showing the multiplicity of readings and interpretations of Abu Tammam's Spring has been undergone throughout the history of Arabic criticism. The study relies on the critical, analytical and interpretive approach. The sample of the study has endured several aspects of deliberate change to obscure the features of the poetic identity produced by a critic who possesses the depth of vision that qualifies him to lead the march of modernization in poetic performance in an era in which the dominance of heritage prevailed widely, covering the possibilities of transcendence and development in performance. Results have revealed that Al-Amidi’s method continued to present data that do not enrich the text nor enhancing the effective movement, which made the text static and unable to be looked at the text as a renewed movement, as this text stopped at a state of stagnation and inactivity. While, Abu Tammam’s creativity moving from a state of static description to continuous discovery and experimentation of the possibilities of linguistic formation and investing its energies in expression, he works to reproduce the poetic text according to a precise method that goes beyond the familiar and generalities to the circle of continuous discovery.

Abstract

The research has four constructs, including perceived usefulness, trust and accuracy, motivation, and behavior intention, which indicate the perceptions of EFL students regarding ChatGPT as a feedback tool in English writing. The mixed-methods design was used to collect data (N = 254) on surveys and open-ended responses. Quantitative methods (descriptive statistics, reliability, regression, and mediation) indicated that ChatGPT was the most useful tool overall for enhancing readers' grammar, organization, and clarity. Its performance was impressive, but its accuracy was inconsistent, with occasional gaps in context. The regression showed that perceived usefulness, trust, and motivation were all useful predictors of behavioral intention, and that motivation mediated the effect of usability on behavioral intention. This was supported by the qualitative results, which focused on ChatGPT's immediacy and supportiveness. ChatGPT is a useful, supplementary source of feedback compared to a teacher's because it helps foster a student's self-confidence and self-reliance when editing drafts.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of recent advancements in Learning Content Management Systems (LCMSs) on digital English language education at Saudi technical colleges. Using a mixed-methods research design, quantitative data were collected from 312 students and 48 English language instructors across five technical colleges, complemented by qualitative interviews. Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ English language performance following LCMS integration, with mean achievement scores increasing from 63.4% to 78.9% (p < .01). Learner engagement indicators also showed notable growth, as 72% of students reported higher motivation levels and 68% demonstrated improved participation in online learning activities. From the instructors’ perspective, 81% reported enhanced efficiency in content development and assessment management, while LCMS analytics contributed to a 35% reduction in instructional planning time. Regression analysis further indicated that adaptive content delivery and multimedia integration were significant predictors of learning achievement (R² = .42). Despite these positive outcomes, the findings also highlight challenges, including varying levels of digital competency among faculty and infrastructure constraints reported by 29% of respondents. Overall, the study confirms that advancements in LCMSs play a transformative role in shaping learner-centered, data-driven English language education at Saudi technical colleges, while underscoring the need for sustained institutional support and professional development.

Abstract

This study examines Muḥyī al-Dīn Darwīsh’s position toward Ibn Khālawayh’s syntactic views as presented in his work Iʿrāb al-Qurʾān al-Karīm wa Bayānuh, through tracing instances of critical engagement between the two scholars, particularly in syntactic issues where Muḥyī al-Dīn Darwīsh expressed either explicit disagreement or qualified agreement supported by grammatical reasoning. The study is based on the premise that Muḥyī al-Dīn Darwīsh’s stance was not purely negative or dismissive; rather, it was characterized by methodological balance, combining acceptance and rejection according to the strength of the evidence and the soundness of syntactic justification. The study is divided into two sections. The first analyzes the expressions and terminology of rejection employed by Muḥyī al-Dīn Darwīsh in his responses to Ibn Khālawayh, examining their critical connotations and degrees of severity. The second section addresses Muḥyī al-Dīn Darwīsh’s position on Ibn Khālawayh’s syntactic opinions in terms of agreement and disagreement, with particular attention to the grammatical principles upon which his preferences and judgments were based. The study concludes that Muḥyī al-Dīn Darwīsh engaged with Ibn Khālawayh’s views as a critical and investigative grammarian rather than a mere transmitter or imitator. He exercised disciplined scholarly criticism that balanced respect for Ibn Khālawayh’s scientific stature with independent evaluation and preference based on established grammatical rules and Qurʾanic context. This approach reflects a mature critical awareness and a balanced scientific methodology in syntactic analysis.

Abstract

This study addresses the issue of the intended indefinite noun (al-nakira al-maqsūda) in the chapter on vocative structures, as a precise grammatical model that deviates from the original declension of indefinite nouns—being constructed with the accusative case marker and treated as definite nouns in terms of grammatical ruling and function. The research aims to demonstrate that this departure cannot be correctly explained except on the basis of syntactic interpretation (al-taʾwīl), and that the intended indefinite noun is, in essence, an indefinite noun interpreted as definite. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology based on tracking and surveying the statements of grammarians, then analyzing and discussing them in light of general grammatical rules. It concludes that the majority of grammarians, although they did not explicitly use the term "interpretation" (taʾwīl), explicitly affirmed its meaning through their explanation of how the indefinite vocative noun is defined by intention, reference, and address, and that its construction with the accusative marker and the prohibition of its nunation are inevitable results of its interpretation as definite. The research ultimately formulates a general principle in grammatical interpretation, which states that every indefinite noun that occupies the position of a definite noun and adopts its declensional ruling must be interpreted as definite a principle that extends beyond the chapter on vocative structures to other grammatical chapters.

Abstract

Metathesis is a phonological phenomenon involving the reordering of segments within words. Despite its presence in Arabic dialects, it has received limited scholarly attention, particularly within Saudi varieties. Furthermore, this phenomenon has not been systematically investigated in these varieties within the framework of Optimality Theory (OT). The current study presents a systematic analysis of consonant, long vowels, and VVC metathesis in Najdi Arabic (NA), a dialect spoken in central Saudi Arabia within the OT framework. It examines the extent to which phonetic, phonological, and morphological factors influence metathesis in NA and demonstrates how OT effectively accounts for the reordered patterns. Data were gathered from publicly available social media posts by NA speakers and from my collection of metathesized words, compiled as a native NA speaker from other native NA speakers. The analysis reveals that metathesis in NA is highly motivated by phonological conditions, particularly the Syllable Contact Law and the Sonority Sequencing Principle, as well as phonetic factors, such as the tendency to pronounce articulatory effortful sounds earlier in the sequence. The primary constraints identified are MAX-IO, SCL-STOP, *LATE-STRONG, SSP, and LINEARITY. Besides, it occurs in trilateral roots in verbs, while it happens in trilateral and quartiles in nouns. The findings show that metathesis in NA is shaped by the interaction among variant linguistic domains rather than by a single actor. The study concludes by proposing future experimental investigations into native NA speakers’ perception and production of different types of metathesis in NA.

Abstract

Mastering the pronunciation of Arabic mutamathilah letters remains challenging for primary school learners because these letters share similar points of articulation and phonetic characteristics, which often lead to pronunciation errors. To address this challenge, Jawlah TikTok, a gamified, technology-based educational application, was developed as an alternative teaching aid to support pronunciation instruction in Arabic. This study evaluated the application's usability and explored experts' perceptions of its potential to facilitate the teaching of mutamathilah letter pronunciation. The application was developed following the ADDIE instructional design model, with the present study focusing on the Evaluation phase. Usability was assessed by seven Arabic language education experts, selected through purposive sampling, using the USE (Usefulness, Satisfaction, and Ease of Use) Questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using the Percentage Calculation Method (PCM). The findings revealed an overall usability score of 92.42%, comprising usefulness (93.14%), ease of use (90.85%), ease of learning (92.85%), and satisfaction (92.85%), indicating a high level of expert agreement regarding the application's pedagogical usability. The experts also agreed that the gamified features of Jawlah TikTok have the potential to enhance students' motivation, engagement, and classroom interaction in Arabic language learning. These findings provide empirical evidence that Jawlah TikTok is a pedagogically sound and highly usable gamified application for supporting Arabic pronunciation instruction in primary education, while offering practical guidance for integrating digital technologies into Arabic language classrooms.

Abstract

The grammatical meaning of displacement is one that stems not from the lexical connotation of a word, but rather from its syntactic context within the sentence, especially when this context is reconstructed in an unconventional manner. In this way, displacement is a factor that produces meaning, not merely a linguistic embellishment. The grammatical meaning of displacement represents a profound intersection between ancient rhetoric and modern linguistics, where language is understood not merely as a means of communication, but as an artistic tool for generating meaning through grammatical representation and deviation from it. In light of grammatical representation, displacement reveals the latent potential of language and opens an aesthetic horizon in which the eloquence of the slide from the ordinary to the surprising is manifested. Therefore, displacement, in the grammatical meaning, requires an active reader, not a mere passive recipient. The reader must reconstruct the relationships between vocabulary and decode the departure from the familiar to perceive the emotional or intellectual connotations underlying the text. Displacement, here, becomes a means of arousing astonishment and reinterpreting reality.

Abstract

This research examines the phenomenon of the conscious morphological selection of broken plural patterns in Arab national anthems, and analyzes their discursive role in shaping meaning and building emotional and ideological impact. It is based on the hypothesis that the selection by a poet or writer of a specific broken plural from among possible morphological alternatives is not arbitrary; rather, it carries discursive connotations that serve the purposes of the national text, such as reinforcing belonging, mobilizing efforts, embodying strength, and shaping collective memory. The research focuses on the official national anthems of selected Arab countries, considering them institutional discursive texts aimed at addressing a wide audience and entrenching shared values and identity. The research aims to inventory and classify the patterns of broken plurals used in a sample of Arab national anthems, and to analyze the semantic and discursive context in which each plural form appears. It also seeks to reveal the relationship between the original morphological denotation of the plural pattern. The research relies on a descriptive, analytical, and pragmatic methodology, combining: Morphological Analysis: To identify the patterns of broken plurals (e.g., af'āl, fi'āl, fu'ūl, fa'ala, fa'ālā, fa'ālil, etc.) and their denotations. Discourse Analysis: to study the plurals within their textual, social, and political context, and to link them to the objectives of the national discourse. To trace the semantic effect these plurals create in the mind of the recipient.

Abstract

This research explores the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) problem in Arabic language learning and how to design TPACK based on a praxeological approach for Arabic language teachers to solve issues faced by students learning Arabic in secondary school. In this context, the TPACK design, based on a praxeological approach, is ideal for solving Arabic language learning problems. This research was carried out using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with data collection using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) method regarding praxeology-based TPACK research in teaching Arabic in schools. Researchers used data sources, including journals, books, and other supporting sources, in this research. The findings in this research indicate that the main problems regarding the implementation of TPACK in Arabic language teaching are (1) the teacher's weak desire to achieve learning goals, (2) limited technological resources, and (3) the teacher's weak pedagogical competence. This problem occurs continuously because Arabic teachers need to have basic guidelines regarding the main steps to implement TPACK. Therefore, the TPACK design is based on a praxeological approach, which includes the see, act, and judge cycle and can help teachers diagnose the problems faced by students in detail. Teachers can take more directed, targeted, and practical actions when teaching Arabic.
