Abstract

Students in many Arab countries experience a noticeable decline in their linguistic repertoire, accompanied by a reduction in the lexical diversity of contemporary school textbooks. This situation has resulted in a clear linguistic gap between the expressive, semantically rich classical Arabic used in literary texts and the simplified, functional language that characterizes modern educational materials. In response, the present study highlights the need to adopt corpus linguistics as an objective, data-driven methodology to support language planning and curriculum development, thereby ensuring a balanced integration of literary depth and pedagogical clarity. The study adopted a corpus-based approach by constructing two linguistic corpora. The first contained Modern Arabic Literary written by major authors between 1940 and 1970, while the second consisted of texts drawn from current school textbooks. Both corpora were analyzed using Sketch Engine, with a focus on quantitative and qualitative differences in lexical richness, syntactic patterns, and rhetorical features. The findings revealed that the modern Arabic literary corpus displays a high level of linguistic, semantic, and stylistic richness that can reinforce students’ linguistic awareness and aesthetic appreciation. Conversely, the school textbook corpus is dominated by simplified constructions and utilitarian vocabulary, and the contrast between both corpora reveals a significant lexical gap that may negatively affect the development of linguistic and cognitive competencies among students. The study concludes that corpus linguistics provides a reliable analytical framework for assessing and improving curricular balance and recommends reintegrating culturally and rhetorically valuable vocabulary into educational materials, grounded in empirical linguistic evidence.

Abstract

Ilm Ma`ani (semantics) holds significant importance in understanding the miraculous of the Qur'an, as it focuses on studying words, sentences, their meanings, and how they interact with context and the speaker's intent. A failure to apply these Ilm Ma`ani (semantics) may lead to a misunderstanding of the speaker's intended purpose. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the intended meaning of the verses that contain the word (Al-Qiyamah) in Surah Al-Baqarah to obtain a concept of admonition and warning. This methode for this study is content analysis method, where the researchers analyzed the Qur'anic verses in Surah Al-Baqarah that contain the word (Al-Qiyamah). The researchers found four verses in Surah Al-Baqarah that contain the word (Al-Qiyamah). The results from the semantic analysis showed that all the topics of Ilm Ma`ani (semantics), which carry rhetorical purposes according to the context, are provided. These rhetorical purposes lead to a sense of admonition and warning in preparation for the Day of Resurrection. The topics of the Ilm Ma'ani include declarative style (khabar), interrogative style (insha'), subject (musnad), predicate (musnad ilayh), exclusivity style (qasr), conjunction and separation style (fasl wa wasl), balance, brevity, and verbosity (musaawat, ijaz, and itnab), and verb-related elements (muta'allaqat al-fi'l). The rhetorical purposes derived from these analyses are reproach and disapproval, reflection and contemplation, warning, emphasizing God's judgment, highlighting contradictions, threat, emphasizing recompense, encouraging repentance, warning and guidance, and emphasizing God's power and many more depending on the context of the verses.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sources of argumentation in Arabic discourse by examining the rhetorical devices that enhance persuasive and affective power, namely rhyme, saj (rhymed prose), and parallelism. The research focuses on revealing the aesthetic and argumentative roles of these devices in constructing a discourse that unites logic with emotion, thereby creating a coherent system of influence and persuasion. Rhyme is considered one of the most prominent rhetorical tools, as it creates a musical rhythm that captures the audience’s attention and reinforces the intended idea. Saj, on the other hand, adds verbal variety, showcasing the speaker’s eloquence and deepening meaning through phonetic contrast. Parallelism achieves syntactic harmony and semantic rhythm, contributing to the coherence and consistency of the discourse and strengthening its persuasive effectiveness. The study concludes that these rhetorical techniques are not merely ornamental; rather, they serve functional purposes in constructing arguments and reinforcing persuasive positions. They exert both psychological and aesthetic effects, making the discourse stronger, clearer, and more appealing to both intellect and emotion.

Abstract

This research basically tries to evaluate the impact of the Fehm-ul-Qur’an courses (I II) on Arabic language acquisition among university students. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has recently mandated this course for all undergraduate and graduate programs (effective Fall 2025). These courses fundamentally facilitate comprehension of the Holy Qur’an; however, they have been structured in a way that also help in foundational Arabic learning. Adopting a mixed-methods approach, the study uses quantitative method by textual analysis of the prescribed textbook Muallim Ul Qur’an. On the other hand, quantitative methods have been employed during data collection from teachers and learners to evaluate pedagogical effectiveness and learning outcomes. The textbook has been analyzed including main Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs). Course contents focus on vocabulary acquisition, direct translation skills, grammatical competence, and syntactic awareness. With that, units of the book along with activities and exercises have been discussed in detail. Findings suggest that these activities are based on active learning and support incremental language acquisition. However, there are some notable challenges including variations in student preparedness and instructional delivery besides HEIs seriousness. In the end, it offers pedagogical and curricular recommendations for further Arabic language proficiency and improvement within higher education contexts in Pakistan i.e. separate course content at each degree (BS, MS/MPhil. and PhD) level.

Abstract

Mastering a foreign language fosters self-reliance, enhances employability, and creates opportunities for participation in local and global contexts. For individuals with visual impairments, language acquisition is particularly significant as it grants access to knowledge, facilitates social interaction, and supports career advancement. The objectives of this study are to identify the challenges and develop an innovative approach to Arabic language learning (ILMAN) for visually impaired learners, with emphasis on innovation (I), inclusive learning (L), multimedia (M) support, flexible accessibility (A-anywhere), and continuous engagement (N-nonstop). These dimensions are combined to establish a sustainable framework that addresses learners’ needs. Assistive technologies such as electronic Braille displays, screen readers, and audio resources are crucial in overcoming barriers. The research adopted a qualitative design and was conducted in Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh, Malaysia. Eight participants with visual impairments were selected using purposive and snowball sampling to ensure representation of diverse experiences. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed thematically to identify challenges and effective strategies. The theme results show that access to learning materials (20.6%) is the most critical issue, reflecting a shortage of Braille resources. Religious-based methods such as memorization and talaqqi remain dominant (27.3%), indicating that Arabic Language Learning (ALL) for blind students is still largely centered on religious practice. At the same time, Braille displays and teacher support (40%) highlight the importance of assistive technology and motivation, with the ILMAN innovation concept offering an inclusive and flexible solution. This is expected to assist visually impaired learners in developing spoken Arabic communication skills. Future studies are encouraged to expand these practices and assess their application across other languages and contexts.

Abstract

This study seeks to explore the Husayni narrative as a grand, transhistorical narrative rooted in the event of Karbala and extending its influence across history, cultures, and the Shiʿi, Islamic, and broader human collective consciousness. In its theoretical section, the research examines the concept of “narrative” through critical grounding and analysis, elucidating how grand narratives are formed within historical, symbolic, and religious structures. It then investigates the extent to which the essential components of such a narrative are fulfilled in the Husayni cause, drawing on modern narrative theories, pragmatic linguistics, and poetic analysis. The applied section analyzes selected examples of Karbala poetry that reconstruct collective memory and intensify the dimensions of the Husayni narrative within an aesthetic literary framework, wherein the voices of the victim, history, and the oppressed community converge. This analysis is grounded in a deep pragmatic and interpretive approach. The study concludes that the Husayni narrative is not merely a tragic story, but rather an “open symbolic system” that embraces values of dignity, resistance, and moral integrity in opposition to injustice and oblivion. Accordingly, it is a narrative capable of renewal, transmission, and functional reappropriation across generations.

Abstract

This study seeks to uncover the most important creative justifications and literary characteristics of "techno-paper" poetry, as a new and emerging creative activity on the surface of Arabic literature, emerging as a reaction to the extremist calls for adopters of both the digital and paper mediums. It also examines the most important literary characteristics and features that distinguish this new literary genre from other literary genres. The study relied on the data of the descriptive approach, which includes monitoring the phenomenon and attempting to analyze it in order to reach the desired goal of this study. The study found that techno-paper poetry is a literary genre that combines two worlds that have always been described as contradictory, and that it thus provides a rich and fertile environment for the reader, as it combines many tools of expression that have come from these two worlds (paper and digital), such as words, sound, images, movement, etc., which makes it a unique poetic discourse that combines both discourses and transcends them at the same time. The study concluded that techno-paper poetry does not abolish paper or digital poetry, but rather attempts to bridge the gap and overcome the fanaticism of each. It serves as a vivid and brilliant example of the clash between literature and technology, satisfy two competing requirements by attempting to curb the fanaticism of both groups emphasizing that belief in the implications or outcomes of technology does not necessarily lead to the demise of print literature and a decline in its value.

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the differences between Iranian (Persian-speaking) and Arab writers in the use of meta/discourse markers in Arabic academic writing. Emphasizing analysis at both the functional and individual marker levels, this study sought to answer the main research question of whether a significant difference exists between the two groups of writers in their use of meta/discourse markers. The research methodology was quantitative and corpus-based. The data comprised 200 academic article abstracts in the humanities and social sciences, selected through purposive sampling (100 abstracts by Iranian writers and 100 abstracts by Arab writers). meta/discourse markers were classified into 12 functions and 87 individual markers based on an integrated framework drawing on models by Fraser (2006) and Hyland (2005). Data were analyzed using Generalized Linear Models with a negative binomial distribution in SPSS software. The findings revealed that at the functional level, the pattern of discourse marker use did not differ significantly between the two groups (p = 0.063), with both groups employing additive, referential, explanatory, and introductory functions most frequently. However, at the level of individual markers, a significant difference was observed between the two groups (p 0.001). The marker wa (‘and’) was the most frequent marker overall, accounting for 38.1% of all uses, and was used significantly more often by Arab writers. Arab writers also made significantly greater use of the markers bal (contrastive), min khilāl (referential), qad (hedging), and mithl (explanatory). In contrast, Iranian writers employed introductory verbal markers such as yatanāwal, yuḥāwil, and yas‘ā, as well as inferential markers like aẓharat natā’ij... and tawuṣṣala, significantly more frequently.

Abstract

This research seeks to investigate the phenomenon of semantic dynamics by studying the dialectical relationship that connects a text with its various contexts. This research is based on a practical application that draws its models from "The Grand Lexicon of Precious Gems" by the author Kazem Al-Abboud, which is considered a prominent example in employing the contextual approach to present meanings. In his analysis, the researcher relies on extrapolating a wide range of heritage texts, encompassing both poetry and prose. He presents the word through its live contextual examples, illustrating how word meanings are formed and how they are colored by the diversity of the surrounding textual and cultural environments. This research is based on a descriptive-analytical approach, with a focus on the contextual method as the primary tool of analysis. The research methodology is based on the deliberate selection of a sample of the lexicon's entries, studying them with a degree of depth and precision. In concluding the analysis, the study emphasizes the pivotal importance of the contextual method in the fields of modern linguistic and semantic studies, while highlighting the practical value of "The Grand Lexicon of Precious Gems" as a link between the rich heritage of Arabic lexicography and modern methods of text and discourse analysis.
