Abstract

This study examines the hypothetical dialogue method employed by skilled grammarians, including al-Muradi in his book "Tawdih al-Maqasid wa al-Masalik" (Clarification of Objectives and Paths). This method, also known as "al-Fanqala," is derived from the expression "If it is said or you say...I say." Its purpose is to highlight grammatical, morphological, and other issues, presenting the content of the scholarly matter. Its aim is to familiarize readers with a hypothetical questioning approach that reinforces understanding and provides comprehensive answers. It also stimulates analytical thinking and the development of meaning among learners by presenting and discussing diverse issues. Sibawayh (d. 180 AH) was among the first to utilize this method. Therefore, it was essential to delve into al-Muradi's hypothetical dialogue, exploring its nature, details, and discussion of grammatical issues. He relied on Quranic verses, hadiths, metrical poetry, and Arabic proverbs to support his arguments. The research concludes with a summary of its findings.

Abstract

The importance of the research lies in its idea, as it specializes in a poem from modern Saudi literature by the poet Ghazi Al-Gosaibi. The research aims to study the textual standards in the poem (Hadigat Al-Ghoroob), and to clarify its elements . The research is based on the descriptive textual method that is based on analyzing the poetic verses according to the linguistic textual standards, and clarifying their components. The researcher reached a set of results, the most important of which are: References varied between the situational and the textual, and the situational was abundant due to the connection of the idea of the poem to the poet. The poem contained repetition, deletion, connection, and intertextuality. It achieved acceptability, intentionality, informational, and situational . The sender was Al-Qusaibi and the receiver was the public in general and his daughter Hadeel in particular. The time was Al-Qusaibi's last days and the place was Saudi Arabia. The channel was writing. The system was classical Arabic. The form of the message was poetry. The key was his supplication and trust in the Lord of the Worlds in his suffering, his plea to the Lord of the Worlds for relief and acceptance and his declaration for forgiveness. The text was harmonious and interconnected in meaning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an educational strategy focused on teaching grammatical rules through their application in real-life and practical contexts. This approach emphasizes how students use grammar in daily communication and functional tasks, applying it rather than memorizing rules theoretically without practical implementation. Herein lies the role of this approach, alongside grammatical thinking skills, leading to reasoning, in simplifying and facilitating the learning of the Arabic language for Malaysian non-native speakers. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The quantitative method involved distributing a questionnaire to 30 intermediate-level students at Al-Turath Institute for the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Additionally, an achievement test was administered to a sample of 140 intermediate students – comprising a control group of 70 students from Rabat Al-Mustafa Study Center and an experimental group of 70 students from Mahad Tahfiz Al-Turath Negeri Pahang, using pre-test and post-test assessments. The qualitative methodology involved a descriptive analysis of the Ajrumiyyah grammar text, examining how the text presents grammar rules, utilizes them in daily life, and builds reasoning skills. The study's results confirmed the effectiveness of the functional approach in teaching grammar by developing grammatical thinking skills leading to grammatical reasoning. The results also demonstrated the effective and positive role of this approach in shifting from theory to application and enhancing students' analysis and reasoning skills, thereby contributing to the improvement of students' linguistic proficiency in both conversation and writing. The study recommends adopting this approach in the educational process.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to investigate the impact of metacognitive and reflective thinking skills as a modern teaching method on the dimensions of the basic writing among sixth-graders at a Bedouin school in Jordan, and to measure whether using the Kember’s levels (2008) of reflection which are habitual action, understanding, reflection, and critical reflection can improve students' writing performance. A quasi-experimental research design was employed, and the study consisted of 70 female sixth-grade students from a Bedouin school in Jordan that are divided into two comparable groups (according to their classrooms) as purposive sampling for the academic year 2025. A pretest and a posttest with Analytical Marking Scale and writing rubrics will be conducted on both groups to provide the quantitative data to show the significance difference between the experimental group and the control group in the study. The study indicated that there is a significant difference in the performance of the students’ writing between the experimental and control groups at P 0.000. The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ results indicate that students in the experimental group, who received reflective thinking treatment, were able to write a better draft than those in the control group, who followed a regular teaching plan without the benefit of reflective thinking. This means that reflective thinking is an effective tool for enhancing writing skills. The research highlights the incorporation of reflective thinking models as a means of overcoming teaching challenges in rural ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌schools.
The Concept Of Nazm by Al-Jurjani As A Mature Rhetoric Theoretical Framework Applicable to The Analysis Of Arabic Texts/ فكرة النظم عند الجرجاني بوصفها نظرية بلاغية ناضجة قابلة للتطبيق في تحليل النصوص العربية Muhammad Nur Afiq Aiman Md. Noraffendie; Mohd Shahrizal Nasir

Abstract

This study examines a rhetorical perspective in Arabic rhetoric associated with ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī, namely the concept of nazm, as a tool to discover the secrets of Arabic rhetoric, especially in the Qur’an. To maximize scholarly benefit, the study aims to determine the status of this concept and to demonstrate the extent of its methodological maturity and its capacity to function as a theoretical framework for understanding Arabic texts for rhetorical analysis. To achieve these aims, the researcher adopts a qualitative descriptive–comparative approach. In practice, the study collects relevant materials from primary and secondary sources, such as journal articles and postgraduate theses. Then it proceeds with procedural steps that include classifying the materials, compiling key statements, and comparing them to identify the locus of methodological distinctiveness in ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī’s conceptualization. The findings show that ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī offers a distinctive concept by shifting rhetorical inquiry from a focus on subjective word ordering to an integrated interpretive construction that links wording and meaning through “the interrelation of words” (taʿlīq al-kalim) and the principle of “seeking the meanings of grammar” (tawakhkhī maʿānī al-naḥw). Historically, the development of the concept of nazm moved from a predominantly sensory, lexical concern to a formulation that integrates wording, meaning, and context, culminating in ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī’s work, where it effectively transitions from a mere idea into a mature rhetorical theory suitable for applied analysis. In addition, exegetical and rhetorical evidence indicate that Nazm is highly applicable to the analysis of Arabic texts, as it has become an effective tool for revealing their rhetorical secrets. Accordingly, the study concludes that the concept of nazm represents a mature rhetorical vision that can serve as a methodological framework for understanding the subtleties of Arabic discourse and extracting its rhetorical insights in the Qur’an and beyond

Abstract

Prosody is considered as one of the most stable branches of Arabic studies throughout history, as far as it has maintained its principles and rules since its inception. No fundamental changes occurred until approximately the fifth century AH, as the Khalilite meter remained the primary reference in evaluating poetry and judging the soundness of its rhythmic structure. The discovery of this science is attributed to Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi, who was able to uncover the system behind poetic meters, thus transforming the rhythm from a matter of taste into a science based on precise rules. This established a critical tradition based on adherence to the meters and metrical patterns he had determined. This stability has been reflected in the structure of the Arabic poem, which largely adhered to the established metrical rules. Therefore, the meter became the distinguishing criterion between poetry and other forms of speech, and any deviation from it became a point of concern for critics and prosodists. As a result, any change in the system of meter or rhyme has been noticed as a departure from the inherited poetic balance, not merely a formal variation, because the classical poem is based in its essence on the unity of meter and the regularity of rhythm. In light of this perception, some poetic arts emerged which represented attempts to expand the metrical system without completely separating from it, most notably the quintets and the Strophic Poetry. The study of these two art forms revealed a poetic awareness that sought renewal within the framework of tradition, as the Quintuplet (a type of quintain) preserved the original meter while adding a structural element. Whereas, the Strophic Poetry moved towards greater rhythmic flexibility in response to the demands of singing and composition. Therefore, dealing with these forms is not limited to describing them as newly created arts, but goes beyond that to understand them as manifestations indicative of what can be called prosodic departure, which tests the limits of the rule without abolishing its reference.

Abstract

This paper discusses the digital revolution in Arabic language education in Pakistan through a combined review of national policy frameworks, institutional capacity, and pedagogical practices. The study examines the national education policies, Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines, and the Arabic language curriculum of the selected universities using a qualitative document analysis approach. The results indicate a vast difference between the policy aspirations and the reality. Although digital integration is strongly encouraged within national frameworks, its implementation in Arabic language programs remains uneven and largely confined to the use of simple technologies. Institutional capacity, faculty digital competence, and traditional disciplinary traditions are major influences on pedagogical practices. The paper proposes that digital transformation in Arabic language education is largely symbolic, lacking coordination with institutional strategies and substantial pedagogical change. This study can contribute to the existing scarcity of research on digital Arabic learning in South Asia and suggest useful policy, institutional, and pedagogical implications to policymakers, universities, and teachers.

Abstract

This study applies Ray Jackendoff’s Conceptual Structure Hypothesis to Arabic linguistic data through the analysis of the Seven Mu‘allaqāt. The study is motivated by the need to diversify theoretical sources in Arabic linguistic research, recognizing that Arabic is a highly creative language. Conceptual structure is not merely a linguistic tool but a fundamental cognitive mechanism that organizes human thought. According to this hypothesis, language and other cognitive faculties operate under a unified system of underlying principles. Conceptual structures are acquired naturally during early childhood, making them epistemologically prior to language, and they can also be observed in certain non-human primates, such as monkeys. The study posits conceptual structure as central to reasoning, inference, and perception, integrating insights from linguistics and cognitive sciences. For practical application, the temporal domain is examined, treating time as a conceptual space. Temporal expressions employ metaphors of movement, trajectory, and spatial extension, including linearity and cyclicity, to represent concepts such as morning, evening, and transitional periods. This analysis demonstrates that the classical Arab intellect was capable of conceptualizing time and transforming it into dynamic and spatially structured visual representations.
