Abstract

Introduction: Compensation provided by hospital and job satisfaction of nurses can affect the performance of nurses. The research aimed to analyze the correlation between compensation and work satisfaction with nurses’ performance through motivation in inpatient room of Bethesda Publik Hospital of Tomohon. Method: The method used is analytic observational approach with cross sectional study. The number of sample were of 50 respondents. The methods of obtaining the data were questionnaire with Likert scale and observation of nurses’ performance with Guttman scale. The data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis by means of frequency distribution table and cross tabulation with chi square. Results: The research indicate that compensation has a correlation with work load (p=0.003), motivation (p=0.040), and nurses’ performance (p=0.001). Work satisfaction has a correlation with motivation (p=0.002) and nurses’ performance (p=0.000). Motivation has a correlation with nurses’ performance (p=0.013). Conclusion: The management of the hospital should pay attention to compensation given and nurses’ work satisfaction, so the nurses are more motivated to carry out services in a professional nursing care in order that more optimal nurses’ performance.

Abstract

Number of elderly in Indonesia in 2014 was reached 18.8 million lives and in 2025 would reached 36 million lives. Along with the increasing age, change of cognitive function on elderly was increased. Impaired cognitive function on elderly may caused alteration on personality and disrupting daily activity. If it took progressively, they can lead to dementia. By knowing dementia status on elderly in society it may be used as a database on developing program that related with elderly health in society. The aim of this research was to achieve description of dementia status on elderly in society. The method that used on this research was descriptive with quantitative approaches. Data collected by using Early Dementia Questionnaire (EDQ) on 98 elderlies took by used stratified random sampling technique at Puskesmas Ibrahim Adjie work area Bandung city. Univariat analysis has done to saw description of dementia status on elderly based on respondent characteristic. The result of this research obtained as many as 38 respondents with presentation 38.8% experienced early dementia and 60 respondents with 61.2% respondents belong to normal category

Abstract

Introduction: PIVCs (Peripheral Intravenous Catheters) have been widely used for clinical medical care which is having risk for phlebitis occurence. IV catheter replacement is performed when there is clinical indication such us phlebitis. The consequence of this action is patient convinence, nurse workload and patient care cost efficiency. Methode: A longitudinal study with experimental results of evidence based practice on replacement of PIVSc with clinical indication  as an effort to improve patient convinience, cost efficiency and reduce nurse workload in 41 patients. Result: 41 patients attached PIVCs, 100% wanted IV catheter replacement if there was any clinical indication. 68% of patients said very uncomfortable if IV catheter routinely replaced. 16 nurse (56.25%) said there is no need to replace IV catheter regularly. 43.75% of nurses felt IV catheters rountine replacement increased the working time and 50% of the nurses felt that nurses workload was increased. Conclusions: IV catheter replacement can be performed if there is cinical indication because it can improve patient convenience, increase cost efficiency and reduce nurse workload.

Abstract

Introduction: The high level of risk emergency psychiatry nurse becomes the target of aggressive behavior in patients both physically and psychologically, providing a special experience for nurses. Positive and negative impacts felt more likely a psychological effect on the nurse. Objective: Identifying the experiences of nurses dealing with patient of aggressive behavior in Emergency Psychiatric of Rumah Sakit Khusus Daerah Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan. Methods: The phenomenological approach to decision informants using purposive sampling with the informant as much as 9 informants who have experienced aggressive behavior from patients. Results: There were 7 themes obtained by the feelings of nurses with aggressive behavior patients, nurses experienced different kinds of aggressive behavior,  nurses identified about the causes of the patient's aggressive behavior, nurse found some signs of the patient while being aggressive, nurses perceived impact of agresive behavior after getting the incident of it, the way nurses treated patients aggressive behavior, and nurses found obstacle to overcome aggressive behavior's patient. The positive experience of nurses in dealing with patient of aggressive behavior was nurse know the proper ways, causes and signs of the patient while being aggressive so the nurse was able to anticipate the action will be carried out. On the other hand the negative experience felt by the nurse due to the impacts of the aggressive behavior patients. Conclusions and:  The experience felt by nurses in dealing with patients in Psychiatric Emergency Unit of Rumah Sakit Khusus Daerah Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan there were positive and negative. Therefore, we need a way to reduce aggressive behavior and provide management training for nurses in dealing with aggressive behavior in order to keep patients safely.

Abstract

Background: High demands in all conditions require proffesional health workers. In dealing with patients, health workers need high emotional intelligence and problem solving skills that are qualified to deal with various problems. Objective: To analyze correlation between emotional intelligence with problem solving skill of health student of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Hasanuddin. Method: This quantitative research was conducted in August-September 2017, using observational study design with cross sectional analytic approach. Population in this research is health students Faculty of Medicine Universitas Hasanuddin who forced in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 (N=1995). Sampling technique using cluster random sampling (n=333). The data were analyzed with Spearman’s Rho test. Results: More than half of respondents had a low emotional intelligence (58.3%) and  medium level of problem solving skill (51,4%). Correlation coefficient both of them is weak (r=0,222; p value = 0.000 <0,05). Conclusion: There is a weak correlation between emotional intelligence with problem solving skill of health student of Faculty of Medicine Hasanuddin University. The higher the emotional intelligence of the student, the higher the level of problem solving skill.

Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still a major health problem in Indonesia. Community participation is a key component of DHF control. The group of schoolchildren is part of a group of people who can play a strategic role, considering the number is very much around 20% of the population. Through this Jumantik, the elementary school children are trained as a mosquito larva (jumantik) in their school. Objective: Establishment of larva monitoring group (Jumantik) and implementation of mosquito nest eradication activity at home and at school Method: A community service activity is conducted by recruiting and providing the training for Jumantik School Children and the teachers. Before the training, the students were given with the pre-test. After the training, the students followed the post-test and were given the mosquito eradication kit to undertake the mosquito larva monitoring at school and home. Result: As much as nine elementary students and three teachers were formed as jumantik volunteers from three different elementary schools namely Malewang, Palleko and Pangembang . The result of pre-test of 9 students, the average score of 8.67 (maximum points 15) with the highest score 11 and the lowest score 6. While the post test results obtained an average value of 11, 89 with the highest value 14 and the lowest value 10. The forms of activity for this program were: establishment of Jumatik school children, distribution of mosquito eradication kit, distribution of leaflet and stickers as the media of health promotion, provision of certificate of training of Jumantic school children and the teachers, the establishment of Plan of Action (POA) of the program and the production of second-hand good products. Conclusion and Suggestion: There are six activities that was implemented in this community service activity. It is suggested that the school to carry out routine activities according to the POA that has been agreed and the community health center can supervise the activity undertaken by the Jumantik school children. Keywords: Jumantik, Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, school children, mosquito eradication

Abstract

Introduction:The birth weight is one of health assessment and prediction of children under five in the future. Growth assessment can uses Denver II screening test to detect earlier the growth whether normal or it risks to delay in growing to know the relations between birth growth and children under five growth in Puskesmas Goarie Subdistrict Marioriwawo Regency Soppeng. Method:This research is quantitative research that uses predictive correlation design. The sample in this research is taken by using purposive sampling technique. The sample estimation is 90 children under five. Result:Most of toddlers in this research have the normal weight (74.4%). The majority of growth aspects of toddler are in the normal category, including hard motor (84,5%), soft motor (87,8%), language and speech (73,3%), social personal (73,3 %) also interpretation at the end of toddler growth are in the normal category (66,7%). There is a significant relation between the weight of birth and the growth of toddler p=0,0001 smaller than α (0,05). Conclusion:The result of this research in Community Health Centre of Goarie Subdistrict Marioriwawo Regency Soppeng, showed that the majority of toddler born with normal birth weight and in the normal category, and there is a relation between the weight of birth with the growth of toddler. Health workers are expected to be screened to assess the growth of toddler and also parents are expected to care for childs’ growth.

Abstract

Introduction: There are available instruments to measure nurses' knowledge and skills related to Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) implementation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the instrumentsto evaluate knowledge and skills of nurses in the application of evidence-based practice. Methode: Searching for resources using keywords to find instruments to measure nurses' knowledge and skills in implementing EBP in Pubmed and Willey databases, and then using Critical Assessment Capability Program (CASP) for cross sectional study as a tool to extract the publications obtained. Result: Eleven publications were analyzed descriptively, only two publications used the same instrument. But does not mean that the instruments used by other researchers are invalid. Conclusions: This literature review have not been able to explain which instrument is better to use in measuring EBP nurses' knowledge and skills. The instrument to be used needs to pay attention to the appropriateness of the contents of the instrument to the organization's organizational culture so that the results of the measurements taken can provide valid data.

Abstract

Background:Nosocomial infection is infections that occur in patients when they are hospitalized. Data in several countries found that hundreds of millions patients worldwide are exposed to nosocomial infection each year. Standard precautions are applied to prevent infections in the hospital. The results of observations and interviews on nurses at Wates Regional Public Hospital found non-compliance of nurses in implementing standard precautions.Objective:The aim of this study is to determine factors affecting nurses’ compliance in Wates Regional Public Hospital, Yogyakarta.Method: This was cross sectional study, using questionnaire and standard precautions compliance check list. Observation was conducted twice on june 26th to July 7th, 2018. The subjects were 103 nurses in 10 inpatients room, taken by total sampling. Data was analyzed by pearson, spearman and mann whitney u test as bivariate, and also linier regression as multivariate.Result:The result of this study indicate that there were significant relationship between gender, standard precautions knowledge, motivation and work experience with nurses’ (p < 0,05), while there were insignificant relationship between age, education level, attitude,  risk perception, preventive efficacy, risk taking personality, needle punctured experience, workload, infection knowledge, work stress, obstacles in standard precautions, the availability of personal protective equipment, safety climate and safety performance feedback with nurses’ compliance (p > 0.05). Multivariate test indicate that motivation has a dominant influence on nurses’ compliance.Conclusion and Suggestion: Factors influencing  nurse compliance with standard precautions include motivation, work experience and risk taking personality. The dominant factor influencing nurse compliance with standard precautions is motivation.  Suggestions from this study are to improve the completeness of facilities and tools related to standard precautions, monitoring and evaluation of nurses’ compliance. Further study needs to be held related to standard precautions each component include hand washing, personal protective equipment usage, care equipment decontamination, safe injecting practices, sharp objects and waste management.Key words:nosocomial infection, compliance to standard precaution, Wates Regional Public Hospital  1: Wates Regional Public Hospital2: Master in Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing UGM

Abstract

Introduction:mental status of elderly is an emotional or cognitive state in the elderly is shown by the behavior of the stand. Mental health problems are very important for the elderly and often occurs in the elderly. The incidence of mental disorders in the elderly status is very high. paired mental status in elderly pose a variety of problems that can affect physical health, psychological, social and quality of life of the elderly so that the necessary nursing services for the early detection of mental status disorders that occur among the elderly. Method: The study design quantitative descriptive survey method. Samples numbered 97 people were selected using cluster random sampling. Primary data was collected by questionnaire the Mini Mental Status Examination (MMSE). Result:T he study of 97 respondents showed that 55.7% had normal mental status, impaired mental status light there are 29.9% and 14.4% of elderly with impaired mental status severe. Based propporsi elderly who suffer from mental status of the most widely experienced by women (52.4%), greater in very old age (100%), greater in elderly unmarried (100%), greater in elderly are not in school ( 70.6%), greater in elderly with a history of self-employed work (44.7%), and greater in the elderly with a history of rheumatic disease (61.1%). Conclusions: Mental status of elderly in Puskesmas Kota Makassar Pampang mostly normal. Therefore, elderly mental health need to be detected early to avoid the impact of mental disorders in the elderly.
