Abstract

Corona Virus Disease-2019 (Covid-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new type of coronavirus, namely SARS-CoV-2. In the beginning of 2020 WHO had declared a global pandemic for this disease and many infected had no symptoms or were mild so they needed isolation, on the other hand there were still many people who didn’t knor about how to self-isolate at home which impacted in the higher transmission rate. This study was aimed to determine the increase in knowledge and abilities of Covid-19 patients regarding care during self-isolation at home. This research is a quantitative study with a pre-experimental approach using purposive sampling technique, the sample in this study were 47 patients who were confirmed positive for Covid-19 who were carrying out self-care at home, willing to be respondents. Health education is carried out using an online method via whatsapp (WA) with booklet media. Data was collected using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Statistical test using t-test. The study showed that there was a significant increase in the knowledge and ability of Covid-19 patients after being given health education about self-care at home. Providing health education online through WA to Covid-19 patients can increase their knowledge and abilities. This research is expected to provide additional information about the health education of Covid-19 patients, especially those who are carrying out self-isolation. For further researchers, in order to examine other variables, such as psychosocial effects and coping mechanisms of Covid-19 patients

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of chronic disease in elderly increase year by year worldwide and it’s related to mortality and decrease of quality of life. The majority of elderly patients complaints about sleep disorders and that affects sleep quality, health status and quality of life. Psychological aspect was identified as one main contributor in sleep disorders among elderly who suffer from chronic disease. This study aims to determine the effect of psychological distress on sleep quality among elderly patients with chronic disease. Methods: This study applied a quantitative research design with cross-sectional approach. The study conducted in a teaching university hospital from October to November 2021. Population is elderly with chronic diseases, the participants selected by using total sampling method. Data collection using psychological distress related questionnaire and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis applied Fishers’ Exact test. Results: There are 52 older patients participate in this study. The study finding 85.6% participants have psychological distress and 51.9% have poor quality of sleep. Based on Fishers’ Exact test analysis, the p-value was 0.308 (statistically insignificant). Conclusion: This study finding report that psychological distress statistically has no significant affect on sleep quality among elder patients who suffer from chronic disease. However, some participants have poor sleep quality. Study in advance to investigate how psychological status affect sleep quality is needed.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Penyakit kronis merupakan isu terkait kesehatan yang lazim ditemukan pada lansia yang dapat meningkatkan tingkat morbiditas dan mortalitas pasien lansia. Kualitas tidur pasien lansia dengan penyakit kronis dapat terganggu dan dapat menimbulkan efek buruk terhadap status kesehatan. Tujuan: Menganalisis kualitas tidur beserta determinannya pada pasien lanjut usia dengan penyakit kronis di RS Unhas Makassar. Metode: Penelitian ini dilakukan secara deskriptif analitik dengan metode survey cross-sectional pada pasien lanjut usia yang terdiagnosis penyakit kronis dan sedang dalam Perawatan di RS Unhas Makassarsebanyak 40 orang. Analisis data menggunakan uji Chi-Square dan uji Mann-whitney. Hasil: Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan tidak ada pengaruh antara jumlah komorbit yang dimiliki, lama penyakit yang diderita, penggunaan obat-obatan serta status psikologis terhadap kualitas tidur pada usia lanjut. Satu-satunya risiko yang berpengaruh terhadap kualitas tidur pada penelitian ini adalah jenis kelamin dengan p value 0,049. Kualitas tidur yang buruk lebih sering terjadi ada lansia berjenis kelamin laki-laki dibandingkan dengan perempuan. Kesimpulan: Jenis kelamin merupakan prediktor terhadap kualitas tidur lansia, sedangkan faktor lainnya tidak menunjukkan signifikansinya. Untuk penelitian selanjutnya, maka penelitian dengan penetapan kriteria sampel yang lebih selektif serta melibatkan jumlah responden yang lebih besar sangat dibutuhkan.

Abstract

Introduction: The high number of divorce in Indonesia would cause big impacts to children. Nowadays, family with single parents used to have specific problems. It is caused by the condition that only one person who grow their child. Most of them, teenagers who loss their fathers in their 11 or 15 years old (teenage middle age) felt emotional distress such us, loneliness, sadness, and lack of attentions. Aims of study is to know about  Emotional Maturity of teenagers having Mother as Single Parents in SMA Negeri 1 Maiwa, Enrekang City. Method: This research is a quantitative study with descriptive analytic design. The Sampling Method of this research is Total Sampling. With number of sample is 33 teenagers. Result: this research showed that 93.9% respondents, have a high dependence, 97% of respondents have a high acceptance of reality, 78.8% respondents have skills in right response, 97% of respondents have high safe feeling, and 57% of respondents have high adaptation skills, 100% of respondents have high empathy skill, 66.7% of respondents have  high emotion control, therefore 100% of respondents have  positive emotional maturity. Conclusion: Most respondents have high emotional maturity (dependence, acceptance of reality skill, right response skill, safe feeling, adaptation skill, empathy skill, and emotion control skill). Therefore, it could be new information about teenage emotional maturity from those having mothers as single parents, and hopefully this study could help and build maturity of teenagers in SMA Negeri 1 Maiwa, Enrekang City.

Abstract

Introduction: The high level of risk emergency psychiatry nurse becomes the target of aggressive behavior in patients both physically and psychologically, providing a special experience for nurses. Positive and negative impacts felt more likely a psychological effect on the nurse. Objective: Identifying the experiences of nurses dealing with patient of aggressive behavior in Emergency Psychiatric of Rumah Sakit Khusus Daerah Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan. Methods: The phenomenological approach to decision informants using purposive sampling with the informant as much as 9 informants who have experienced aggressive behavior from patients. Results: There were 7 themes obtained by the feelings of nurses with aggressive behavior patients, nurses experienced different kinds of aggressive behavior,  nurses identified about the causes of the patient's aggressive behavior, nurse found some signs of the patient while being aggressive, nurses perceived impact of agresive behavior after getting the incident of it, the way nurses treated patients aggressive behavior, and nurses found obstacle to overcome aggressive behavior's patient. The positive experience of nurses in dealing with patient of aggressive behavior was nurse know the proper ways, causes and signs of the patient while being aggressive so the nurse was able to anticipate the action will be carried out. On the other hand the negative experience felt by the nurse due to the impacts of the aggressive behavior patients. Conclusions and:  The experience felt by nurses in dealing with patients in Psychiatric Emergency Unit of Rumah Sakit Khusus Daerah Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan there were positive and negative. Therefore, we need a way to reduce aggressive behavior and provide management training for nurses in dealing with aggressive behavior in order to keep patients safely.

Abstract

Introduction: Smartphone is currently a tool for communications that is widely used by all people, especially among high school students. Excessive use of smartphone can lead to smartphone addiction. Someone who has a smartphone addiction have anti-social behavior towards his environment. This study aimed to describe of social interaction on the male and female students who have a smartphone addiction in SMA Negeri 21 Makassar. Method: This study design used is quantitative with descriptive survey. Selection of sample using cluster random sampling, total 95 respondent. Primary data obtained through questionnaires. Result: Based on the results of a study of 95 respondents, shows that respondents who experienced low-level smartphone addiction 19 people (28.8%) had a high social interaction, similar with respondents who experienced medium-level of smartphone addiction 43 people (65.2%) and high-level 4 people (6.1%) had a high social interaction. Conclusions: The study concluded that all levels of smartphone addiction has a high social interaction, not all respondents who use smartphones tend to be indifferent to his surroundings. They remain more comfortable communicating directly with the people closest. This research is expected can provide benefits that can be used as information specifically for students of SMAN 21 Makassar, and can improve socialization skills in the environment so that it can improve social interaction began to crushed

Abstract

Introduction: The nursing code ethics is a guideline and framework of nurses during delivering nursing care services include making clinical decisions. The Indonesian Nursing Code of Ethics contains 5 principles of nurse's responsibilities such as responsibility to clients’ care. The aim of this study to describe the attitude of nurses towards clients at Hasanuddin University Hospital Makassar as a part of nursing code of ethic translation. Method: This research applied a quantitative study with descriptive survey. There are 95 nurses recruited as respondents through purposive sampling methods. Results: There are 80% of respondents have excellent rate while rest of nurses who have good rate in attitude towards the clients in order to translate the nursing code ethics into clinical practice. Conclusion: The majority of nurses already implemented the nursing code ethics, particularly Indonesian version, into clinical practice. However, examining the whole principles of the ethic codes is still needed in order to improve nursing care quality in hospital setting.

Abstract

Introduction: In Indonesia, the number of children who suffer from autism identified around 6,900 children in every year. The autism characterised by a communication disorder due to the delay in speech, that affect the children were incomprehensible of language skill and also interference with interaction. Stimulation is an important therapy in order to maximize all the potential skills of the children. A form of stimulation which possibly applies is a story telling therapy, that therapy is given in an early age. This study aims to describe the level of language and social interaction skills among children with autis who were attending a story telling stimulation therapy class in the center of therapy Pelita Mandiri Makassar. Method: This study applied descriptive analytic research design with a cross sectional approach. There were 30 children with autis recruited in this study. Results: The results of this study shows that children who attend story telling stimulation therapy class have signifincantly improvement in both language and social interaction skills particularly in 21.9% of participants. The children who able to speak with their own language and understood by others (76.7%), children who was able to mention the sounds (70%). Conclusion: Story telling stimulation therapy program has potential benefit on language and social interaction skills improvement in children with autism.

Abstract

Introduction. Health literacy is the level of an individual's ability to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health-related decisions. Nursing students need to understand health literacy in order to prepare themselves to become educative health professionals. Therefore, the researcher intends to conduct research on the level of health literacy of nursing students at the Islamic College of Makassar City. Method. This study uses a quantitative research design with descriptive research methods. The number of samples is 235 people. Result. Analysis of the data found that there was a difference between the level of health literacy between age (p=0.851), gender (p=0.965), semester level (p=0.316), nursing students at Makassar City Colleges. However, there is no significant difference. Conclusion. The need for a compulsory learning program or some kind of special curriculum that discusses health literacy at the academic stage. It is hoped that this related research can to be dug again in depth like finding out what factors which is the cause of universities being found have low health literacy in this study or developed by increasing the number of respondents

Abstract

Chronic non-communicable diseases have become a health concern in the health care system worldwide, especially in older people. Managing the disease was crucial to improving the quality of life among those older people. This study aims to identify self-management among older people with chronic non-communicable diseases. A cross-sectional study method was conducted in two primary healthcare centers. The respondents were recruited using accidental sampling, and 40 older people participated. The socio-demographics, lifestyle, and self-management were extracted by using paper-based questionnaires. All socio-demographic and lifestyle data statistically show no significant impact on the self-management of chronic non-communicable diseases among older people. Predominantly participants were old-old category (55%), women (62.5), the middle level of education (50%), household (42.5%), married (67.5%), consuming salted fish (80%), salted egg (50%). Since the study result is statistically insignificant, the large sample size may be needed to increase the study result.
