Abstract

The design of this chair originated from the problems that exist in the waiting room of the Surabaya North Quay port where there are still many interior product designs for standard public spaces, so that it seems boring and uncomfortable to use for a long time, therefore an innovation has emerged to create. comfortable chairs used for a long time with the concept of lesehan culture which is a sitting culture that was passed down by our ancestors and we should maintain this distinctive feature of Indonesian sitting culture in the midst of an increasingly modern era. The design is designed so that the user can sit cross-legged and stretch out comfortably, therefore the seat is made wide with a reference to sitting cross-legged and long as a reference for sitting side-by-side so that the user can determine the sitting position that is most comfortable because it is different from western sitting culture which prioritizes ergonomics. Indonesians feel more comfortable when given the freedom to achieve the relaxation they desire. The main principle of sustainability that the writer wants to apply here by utilizing used material which is wasted into a pile of garbage can be a valuable product.

Abstract

The Covid 19 pandemic has an impact on the studio-based learning process as well as on the Visual Study course, which is one of the core courses in the Fashion Product Design study program in Universitas Ciputra Surabaya. The course has learning outcomes, that is ‘students are able to independently design creative and distinctive fashion works by applying fashion design methods through in-depth visual observation, direct and indirect exploration’. Apart from the absence of direct field observations, the concept of studio-based learning with active learning methods with lots of interactions between teachers and students cannot be done at this time. The design of a guide is needed to assist students in designing fashion products so that the learning outcomes of this course can be achieved. Qualitative descriptive research with digital ethnography was carried out in this study in order to respond directly to the Covid 19 pandemic which has an impact on design-based and studio-based learning. The results of this study are a lesson plan, design guide, and a learning management system which is the result of a needs assessment and is evaluated at the end of the semester to see the success of the designed guide.

Abstract

In 1996, Adhi Nugraha, who graduated with his doctorate study from Aalto University Helsinki, Finland, created a module to make adjustments (updates) to traditional products so that they can be accepted in a contemporary context. This module is called ATUMICS (Artefact, Technique, Utility, Material, Icon, Concept, and Shape). Designers and engineers can use the module in creating a breakthrough product or system that is traditional products so that it can continue to be accepted by the modern market while maintaining the intangible values contained therein. A module can be used and practised by the RDD (Research Design Development) team in a company, especially in the product industry. This study uses interpretive qualitative analysis intending to identify ATUMICS in traditional products. The objective analysis aims to understand the elements and motivations in the ATUMICS module. With this module (ATUMICS), the author, who is also involved in the design and industry of rattan furniture products, found opportunities from the functions and benefits of the ATUMICS module. The module can help solve some actual cases in the design and industry of rattan furniture products, especially Cirebon. Especially in the area of interpretation of visual and conceptual presentations that are applicable and measurable without losing the traditional values that have been the lifeblood of rattan made products

Abstract

Language is an essential factor that distinguishes humans from animals. With human language, humans are able to communicate their thoughts and feelings both orally and in writing. The development of communicating with this language occurs both in the home environment, school, and the wider community. When these environments do not pay enough attention to developing language skills or what Gardner calls Language Intelligence, then this intelligence does not develop optimally. Based on preliminary studies in elementary school, many students whose language intelligence is not developing optimally The lack of development of Language Intelligence is partly due to the lack of media that can develop it. Departing from this, the research using the Stanford University Design Thinking research method aims to produce learning media to develop language intelligence using used oil bottles designed with the principle of upcycling.

Abstract

The use of a whiteboard eraser is unavoidable in teaching and learning activities. However, in its use, whiteboard erasers are often found that are easily damaged or of poor quality. Some things that can happen are the eraser cloth is torn, the cloth is detached from the place and the marker ink marks on the eraser body. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method approach is used to develop product designs in an effort to correct the shortcomings of the whiteboard eraser that has been used previously. The data obtained were obtained from questionnaires distributed to respondents by considering the statement attributes to determine the user's wishes. The results obtained from the overall planning matrix can be identified with the needs of the eraser user, namely the Interest Level with the highest value of 4.36, namely A12 (comfortable product to use), the highest Satisfaction Level of 4.07, namely A10 (Easy to absorb eraser fabric), Improvement Ratio with a value of The highest score is 1.35, namely A9 (the eraser body is made of lightweight and strong material) and Normalized Raw Weight with the highest value of 13%, namely A11 (the cloth material is not easily torn). The design of the V2 whiteboard eraser was designed in an effort to meet user needs with the QFD concept according to Indonesian anthropometric data and to obtain a product design in the form of a V2 whiteboard eraser which has a blue color with the addition of batik motifs and accessories, a body made of Dutch teak wood, type the fabric used is cotton, and the fabric/filling can be changed.

Abstract

Every year the Indonesian people are estimated to contribute 0.48-1.29 million metric tons of plastic waste to the oceans. Polystyrene (PS) takes more than 500 years to decompose naturally among the types of trash thrown away. For local producers, PS waste recycling requires more processing than other thermoplastic waste processing. On the other hand, PS waste processing is interesting to develop because of its shiny and transparent nature, so it is used as a jewelry product that cannot absorb a lot of waste. Therefore, this study aims to explore the uniqueness of PS recycling further so that it can be utilized optimally by local plastic waste recycling business actors. This study uses primary data collection methods such as observation, focus group discussions, and experiments. Experimental stages are carried out to find the proper treatment and get a unique texture and shape different from other materials. Furthermore, an analysis is made using the material-driven design method to see the value of the material. This analysis produces material visualization concepts such as uneven, imperfect, artless, translucent, and luxurious, which are suitable to function as vocal points for room styling. This study found that deficiencies in processing existing PS recycled materials can be overcome effectively and efficiently by melting 75 percent of the shredded plastic.
