Abstract

The implementation of Community Activity Restrictions set by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged people to pursue gardening as a hobby while undergoing independent isolation or quarantine at home. The increasing selling price of ornamental plants and the emergence of various equipment products mark the guard. This study aims to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on increasing the hobby of gardening and to identify consumer preferences in purchasing gardening equipment products. The benefit of this research is to produce recommendations for gardening equipment designs that are desirable to consumers. Quantitative methods were used to describe trends in consumer behavior through online surveys of one hundred people who have a gardening hobby. Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, it is known that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the gardening hobby in the community. The three most essential tools in gardening are pots, watering tools, and shelves. In choosing a pot, the prominent factors considered by consumers are design, material, and price. The types of pots most respondents chose were plain earthenware pots and white plastic pots. Most respondents choose high-straight iron and wood-iron shelves or minimalist iron shelves. Regarding to pot decorations, respondents chose metal-wood pot stand, or rattan pot stand, over other decorative products such as pot hangers or fabric pot covers.

Abstract

Del Institute of Technology has Laboratorium Desain Produk (Lab Desprin) that based on additive manufacturing and 3D printer facilities. In its operation, the 3D printer uses acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) filament raw materials, polycarbonate (PC), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), nylon, Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP), and Investation Casting Wax. . The remaining filament and 3D printer printouts from the practical process require storage space in the laboratory. The material that makes up this filament itself is difficult to decompose by nature and has the potential to become harmful waste. This study aims to design a safe and practical 3D printer waste material chopper to recycle the remaining filament and 3D Printer printing results. With the Axiomatic House of Quality (AHOQ) method, the customer requirements for the enumerator are obtained, namely the appropriate size of the chop, has an indicator that it is on or not, safe in operation, not noisy, easy to move, and saves electricity. To meet this requirement, a waste chopper has been designed with specifications that it has a filter with a size that is adjusted to the desired chopping size, a cover on the material input channel as a security function and reduces noise, and uses a bicycle as a source of motion and saving electricity. The working system of the tool is a chopper tool by utilizing mechanical motion by rowing a bicycle as a source of motion for the chopper blade. This designed tool has been successfully built with the ability to chop materials with a thickness of > 15 mm and a noise level of less than 85 dB.

Abstract

The process of measuring the height and weight of toddlers regularly is very important to be carried out to prevent and handle stunting from an early age. These measurements are often carried out using separate height and weight measuring instruments, and there are still many Posyandu in Indonesia that use conventional instruments that are less safe, less accurate, and less comfortable, which results in discomfort and difficulties in the measurement process, both for Posyandu cadres, as well as the children themselves. In addition, there are still not many stunting detection tools made according to the characteristics of toddlers. Therefore, this study was conducted to find systems, types of height and weight measuring instruments that are practical and accurate, with visualization, product ergonomics, and features that are by the characteristics of toddlers, so that the measurement process can be more accurate, comfortable, safe, and pleasant with design thinking methods and ergonomic approaches. The result of this design is the design of an Arduino-based digital stunting detection tool in the form of a fox and equipped with a phone holder plus a plush-toys feature to attract children's attention which could be used to measure a child's weight and height simultaneously, as well as placing a device

Abstract

Coworking Space is a place where individuals or groups have different work backgrounds in one place. In Indonesia, coworking spaces are developing, with proof of that is the emergence of coworking spaces in big cities, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta. With the increasing demand, coworking spaces are currently experiencing development. One element that is quite close and plays an important role in work activities is a table and chairs. Various activities and various work backgrounds that gather in a limited space and spend quite a long time, demand a coworking space to be a versatile and comfortable place. Thus, we need furniture that can achieve effectiveness and still think about the concept of open space or sharing space with other users. This means that this furniture has more features, such as being able to be used individually or together. So that the designed tables and chairs can accommodate user needs and adjust the space that is expected to create comfort for working in a coworking space.

Abstract

Product design education was officially established in 1973 by the Department of Art Education at ITB. In this era, product design is ideally conceived as a discipline directly connected to the manufacturing industry, with its graduates professing to be industrial designers. The designs are intended to be manufactured on a mass scale. However, at the time, the manufacturing industry in Indonesia was still dominated by small-to medium-scale craft-based industries. Therefore, the conventional comprehension of product design was not fully concurrent with the Indonesian economic situation between 1970 and 1980 if adopted out of context. On other hand, some phenomena implied the intention of the Indonesian government to posit product design discipline as a support for the development of the craft industry through the involvement of several activities, such as training and exhibitions. This situation depicts the gap in knowledge between what was understood as the basis of product design education and the government's agenda for establishing product design in Indonesia. This research uses a historical approach to investigate documents and other resources regarding establishing a Product Design major in ITB. The resources studied to determine the positioning of product design in Indonesia from the perspective of the government's economic agenda at the time, that are discussed in this paper.

Abstract

Ciwalen Village, Sukaresmi District, Cianjur Regency, has the potential to become a center of economic growth as a floricultural village, not just to supply ornamental plants to Jakarta. Conditions like this are very profitable for owners of large land areas and with large capital. Another case is for farmers with limited land and small capital. They are only scattered among small traders selling ornamental plants on the sides of the road, only with a small amount of paper or plastic packaging. In this study, the aim was to establish a sales center and develop packaging designs. With the existence of a sales center, it is hoped that the sales system will be more focused and effective, as well as a solution to concentrate sales information on ornamental plants. The development of packaging design can expand the market share of ornamental plants. With an attractive and very personal packaging design, it will provide added value to ornamental plant products. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method that is inductive analysis. The research method consists of collecting, compiling, and describing various actual data, documents, and information. The discussion results show that the existence of sales centers, besides becoming a tourist destination, can also increase the selling value of ornamental plants. Meanwhile, product packaging increases the emotional appeal and influences purchasing decisions for ornamental plants.

Abstract

The Indonesian government is seriously developing products made from endemic natural resources. One of the potential materials to be further developed is wood. The endangered Eusideroxylon Zwageri, commonly known in Indonesia as Ulin Wood, are an endangered flora species that is difficult to find outside the South-East Asia Region. The wood is commonly used for construction and building materials, causing massive exploitation and deforestation. The research initiated a new approach to making smaller products yet having higher economic values. By adding precious metals as the aesthetical elements, it is wished that the product could be classified as precious/semi-precious jewellery, thus elevating its economic value. The research employing method developed by Paul Harris involves the Define, Research, Ideate, Prototype, Select, Implement, and Learn stages. The CNC 3-axis Milling machine will be used to make the prototype. The results are a Wrist watch design with precious metal aesthetical elements. The prototypes are made considering technical boundaries, as the journal explains.
