Abstract

Manyung is one of low value fish in Yogyakarta. In order to increase the value, manyung was processed into surimi. In this research, manyung was processed into surimi with different heating temperatures (40, 45, 50, 55, 60, and 70oC) and washing time frequency (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 times) to investigate the gel properties of manyung surimi. Gel strength of manyung surimi increased as washing time treatment increased from 0 to 5 times. Statistical analysis showed that the 4 washing time and 5 washing time have similar gel strength and sensory characteristics. Manyung surimi with 5 washing time and pre-incubation at 60oC followed by cooking at 90oC produced the highest gel strength.

Abstract

This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of dietary single cell protein as substitution for fish meal in fish diets. Five isonitrogenous (38% crude protein) and isocaloric (3,040 kcal digestible energy/kg diet) practical diets, namely diets A, B, C, D and E with different levels of single cell protein were fed to juvenile common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Twenty juveniles/aquarium with an initial weight of 1.20±0.11 g per individual were used in this experiment. Fish were cultivated in aquarium of 60 l capacity under standardized conditions at 26±10 C. The aquaria assigned to 5 treatments were arranged in triplicates. Diet A contained low dosage of single cell protein (0 g /100 g diet), while diets B (9.8 g /100 g diet), C (19.5 g /100 g diet), D (29.3 g /100 g diet), and diet E (39.5 g /100 g diet ), combined respectively with 39.5 g fish meal/100 g diet (diet A), 29.3 g fish meal/100 g (diet B), 19.5 g fish meal/100 g diet (diet C), 9.8 g fish meal/100 g diet (diet D), and 0 g fish meal/100 g diet (diet E). Fish were fed ad satiation for 45 days using these diets. The dietary with different level of single cell protein affected growth rate and feed efficiency. Fish fed on diet 39.5 g fish meal/100 g (diet A) produced the highest growth rate (1.15±0.267%) and feed efficiency (61.68±9.89%). Growth rate and feed efficiency decreased synchronously with increases in single cell protein in the fish diets. Lysine and tryptophan were higher in single cell protein than in fish meal; whereas arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, methionine, phenylalainine, threonine and valine were lower in single cell protein. On the other hand, fish fed on experimental diets did not show any significance differences in the survival rate.

Abstract

Manyung (Arius spp.) and shark (Carcharhinus sp.) are the most of low value fishes in Yogya. In order to increase the value, the fishes were processed into surimi. In this research, fishes were mixed in different ratio of manyung and shark, namely 90%:10%, 70%:30%, 50%:50%, 30%:70%, and 10%:90%. The water content, protein content, lipid content, sensory properties and gel strength were determined. The result showed that surimi from manyung and shark in ratio of 90%:10% produced the highest folding test value (AA) and the highest score of sensory properties.

Abstract

Satellite measurement provides synoptic view of sea surface wind and can be used to study variability of coastal upwelling. Here we analyzed data of 12 years of satellite-derived sea surface wind, sea surface temperature (SST), and sea surface chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) to examine the spatial and temporal distributions of coastal upwelling off the Yogyakarta waters. Results show that upwelling occurs during the Southeast Monsoon (SEM) season. During this season, the Yogyakarta waters are dominated by strong wind speed (~7 m/s) and SST cooling (25 °C). Whereas during the Northwest Monsoon (NWM) season the low wind speed (<4 m/s) no longer favor upwelling and SST cooling. We suggest that as the Yogyakarta coastline is oriented east-west, northwesterly winds result in downwelling condition at the coast, while southeasterly winds lead to the offshore Ekman transport of surface water and subsequent upwelling.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the length-weight relationship and condition factors of Mullet (L. subviridis) in Lereng Lagoon Purworejo Regency. The samples were collected monthly from February until May 2002. Total lengths and weights of the fish samples were measured. The length-weight relationships and relative condition factors measured were analyzed, and then t-test and least significant different test were conducted for length-weight relationships and relative condition factor respectively. The results indicated that the total length of Mullet had positive correlation to weight during observation. The length-weight relationships revealed that the slope values were significantly lower than 3 (allomatric growth) for each month of observation. The values of relative condition factors are vary from 0,9987 to 1,0162 for each size group for in all months. Those values are significantly not different to each other for all size and sex in all months.HUBUNGAN PANJANG-BERAT DAN FAKTOR KONDISI RELATIF BELANAK(Liza subviridis) DI LAGUNA LERENG KABUPATEN PURWOREJO

Abstract

An experiment to evaluate the effectiveness immunostimulant and bacterin on humpback grouper have been conducted at the Disease Laboratory of Research Institute for Mariculture, Gondol, Bali. The experiment was designed in completely randomized design with four treatments in duplicates. Two hundred of humpback grouper juveniles (15-18 cm of total length, 55-65 g of body weight) were injected intraperitoneally with (A) bacterine at 107 cfu/kg body weight (BW), (B) peptidoglycan at 100 mg/kg BW, and (C) immuno star at 100 ml/kg BW, (D) control. The fish were then challenged with VNN by intramuscular injection at 10 days post treatment. Results showed that survival rates of juvenile after challenged with VNN were 60.00% (B & C), 53.34% (A), and 1.67% (control). Parameters of non-spesific immune respons showed that phagocytic activities were 17.56% (B), 17.55% (C), 13.11% (A), and 9.33% (control). In addition, lisozyme activities were 1.64 cm (B), 1.58 cm (C), 1.55 cm (A), and 1.46 cm (control). Immunostimulant and bacterin stimulated non-specific immune response, and increased survival rate of humpback grouper juvenile.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine natrium metabisulfit concentration influence to gelatin colour quality of red large snapper skin. Gelatin production was begun with dry skin rehydration, boiling water submerging then size decreasing and acetate acid solution (CH3COOH) submerging with pH 3 for 24 hours, skin washing, then refined the skin using blender, then the skin was extracted using water at 90oC temperature for three hours. The extracted gelatin was filtered using filter cloth, dakron and zeolite. The natrium metabisulfit (0%; 0.25%; 0.5%; 0.75%; 1%, w/w) was added into the filtrate then the filtrate was dried in an oven with 700C for 36 hours. The gelatin leaves was refined using blender. The result of this research shown that natrium metabisulfit concentration influenced (p<0.05) ash content, sulfide residue, and gelatin colour, but did not influence (p>0.05) the water content, viscosity, and gelatin gel power. The increasing of natrium metabisulfit concentration were followed by gelatin colour qualities which were getting brighter, while ash contents and sulfide residues which were collected were increasing above the Indonesia National Standard. Natrium metabisulfit concentration 0,25% gave the best result based on Indonesia National Standard 01-3735-1995 compared with other treatments, with specifications : protein content 86.64%, ash content 3.45%, water content 7.52%, sulfide residue 313.61 ppm, viscosity 9.58 cPs, gel power 274.82 bloom, and light yellow colour (2.5 Y 7/4).

Abstract

A study on the limnologic conditions of Sermo reservoir  was conducted  from September  1996 to January 1997. Water samples were collected from six stations every ± 25 days. The samples from each station were collected from 2 to 3 different depths of water. The objectives of this research were to know the physically, chemically and biologically water quality of Sermo reservoir. Results indicated that the water quality of Sermo reservoir was suitable for fishes. The concentration of NH4+, NO3-, PO43-, dan SO4= indicated that the water fertility could support the growth of plankton as natural food for fishes and other aquatic organisms. However, the water quality and its productivity have not been stabile yet. Phytoplankton was more dominance than zooplankton. Number of phytoplankton species were between 10 - 15 species, that was dominated by Nitzschia sp., Nostoc sp. and Peridinium. Zooplankton species observed were Brachionus  sp. and Cyclops sp. Any aquatic plants were not found.

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to find out the suitable stocking density of sea weed as shelter to growth and survival rate of swimming crabs (Portunus pelagicus) reared in brackishwater ponds. The research was conducted in nine brackishwater ponds with the dimension of 250 m2 for 120 days. The treatments different stocking density of sea weed (Gracillaria sp.) as shelter were applied, namely A: 500 kg/ha, B: 750 kg/ha, and C: 1000 kg/ha, with three replicates, respectively. Crablet 9th with carapace width 5,2 + 0.2 mm and body weight 0.04 + 0.02 g were introduced into each experimental ponds with density of 3 individu/m2. The crabs were fed with trash fish 15% of body weight in the first month, and then decreased to 5% in following month, twice a day. The experiments were design as complately randomized design. The result showed that the shelter were significantly increased to the survival rate and yield of swimming crabs (P<0.05), but not to the growth of charapace width and body weight. The best of survival rate and yield was obtained on the density of shelter at sum 1000 kg/ha.
