Abstract

Research about visual physiology of Bigeye as a group of tropical fish was still limited. The aim of this research was to know visual physiology of Bigeye, and the application in arrest process of fish catch of mini purse seine. Retina of fish samples with the total length of size 205-260 mm were analyzed by histological observation and calculation of formula in order to know visual acuity and maximum sighting distance, and then application process at mini purse seine to know getting away model of appliance coverage catch. Visual acuity of Bigeye ranged from 0.09 to 0.1. The object was net of mini purse seine diameter of 1.90-22.00 mm and maximum sighting distance of 0.39-7.17 m. Get away time of Bigeye were 7.45 sec; 6.45 sec; and 5.70 sec at condition of sustained speed; prolonged speed; and burst speed, respectively. Appliance time of mini purse seine to circle of perfection was 290.82 second.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengamati variasi genetik strain Bastar, Paris dan Blusafir dengan menggunakan penanda RAPD. DNA ikan gurame diekstraksi dari sirip, dan diamplifikasi secara random dengan menggunakan primer OPA 1-20. Tidak terdapat perbedaan secara genetik antara tiga strain yang diuji. Berdasarkan dua primer RAPD (OPA 4 dan 7), variabilitas tertinggi diamati pada Bluesafir dengan nilai heterogenitas 0,3050 diikuti dengan Paris dengan nilai 0,2832 dan Bastar dengan nilai 0,2360. Jarak rata Nei genetik adalah 0,118, dengan terendah yang teramati antara Paris dan Bluesafir.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis respon tuna madidihang terhadap jenis umpan yang berbeda dan kedalaman pada perikanan handline dalam meningkatkan hasil tangkapan. Pengambilan datadilakukan mulai bulan Juli-Oktober 2013 di perairan Selat Makassar. Data yang digunakan berupa data primer yakni jenis umpan dan panjang tali pancing ulur. Data primer diperoleh melalui pengamatanlangsung di lapangan. Jenis umpan yang dipergunakan adalah ikan terbang; cumi-cumi, tongkol, dan layang. Kedalaman (panjang tali pancing ulur) yang dipergunakan adalah 30,0; 37,5, 45,0, 52,5 dan 60,0m. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif melalui perbandingan histogram dengan uji t-student dan ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) jenis umpan yang dominan dimakan oleh tuna madidihang selama pengamatan adalah cumi-cumi disusul ikan terbang, ikan layang dan tongkol (2) tuna madidihang ukuran larva (0-40 cm) dominan tertangkap dengan jenis umpan ikan terbang pada kedalaman 30 m; tuna madidihang ukuran juvenil (40-80 cm) dominan tertangkap dengan jenis umpan ikan terbang dan tongkolpada kedalaman 37-45 m; ukuran pradewasa sampai matang gonad (> 80 cm) dominan tertangkap dengan jenis umpan cumi-cumi dan ikan layang pada kedalaman 45-52,5 m dan ukuran layak tangkap(sudah pernah mijah) dominan tertangkap dengan jenis umpan cumi-cumi pada kedalaman ≥ 52,5-60 m. Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian bahwa umpan terbaik untuk penangkapan tuna madidihang adalahdengan umpan cumi-cumi dan dioperasikan pada kedalaman ≥ 52,5 m merupakan kedalaman yang terbaik untuk memperoleh ukuran layak tangkap.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis respon tuna madidihang terhadap jenis umpan yang berbedadan kedalaman pada perikanan handline dalam meningkatkan hasil tangkapan. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine allozyme genetic characters of the spotted galaxid in western Victoria, Australia. Two populations, Barongarook Creek (landlocked population) and Dutton Creek (diadromous population), of the spotted galaxias (Galaxias truttaceus) was investigated on their genetic characters by allozyme electrophoresis methods. From 23 system enzymes and general protein, 39 putative enzyme-coding loci were resolved, 3 of which were polymorphic at Esterase-1 (Est-1), Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase-2 (Gpdh-2), and Phosphogluconate hydrogenase (6pgd). Fixed allozyme differences were found at Est-1 locus indicating that incipient change in genetic character have been started in the landlocked population.

Abstract

Fisheries productivity is defined as a comparison of production to fishing effort.The Fishing effort can be the number of fishers, fishing boats or fishing gears. This paper was developed from analysis of Indonesia Fisheries Statistic data in the period of 1990-2001 at 9 regions of fishery management in Indonesia. It was assumed that the catch by fisherman in each region will be landed at the same region. The results showed that productivity level of fisherman was lowest at WPP-9 (Indian Ocean) with a value 1,2 ton per year (an average 100 kg per month per fisher). The highest productivity of fisherman reached 3.1 ton in 1999 at WPP-5 (Sulawesi Sea and Tomini Gulf). The productivity of fishing boat was ranged from 7.8 ton to 16.4 ton per year per fishing boat. Then the productivity of gear was from 5,0 ton per gear per year to 13,5 ton per gear per year. From this result, it can be predicted that the distribution of fishing gear, fishing boat and fisherman in 9-WPP was not equally proportional. For sustainability life of the fisheries, it need a policy which may increase to economic benefit of fisherman and fishing activity.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to know the effects of zeolite on the water quality and the growth of catfish. Catfishes were cultured in fiberglass containers (±24 l) with 5-10% of water exchange/container/day, for 3 months. The stocking density was 8 fishes/container (3 fishes/l water). Zeolite was added at 0, 125, 250, 500 mg/l/month.Result of this experiment indicated that zeolite at 125, 250, 500, mg/l/month decreased free CO2, alkalinity and NH3 of water during 3 months culture of catfish. The body weight increasment of catfish cultured in treated water with zeolit at 125, 250, 500 mg/l/month were 188, 195, and 222 g, respectively, which were higher than that of catfish cultured in untreated water.

Abstract

Grapsus albolineatus is one of marine crustaceans which have carotenoid (astaxanthin) pigment. This research was conducted to analyze carotenoids (astaxanthin) extracted from G. albolineatus, and evaluate their in vitro antibacterial activity. The research was done in March-July 2002. Samples were collected from Manado Gulf, North Sulawesi. The result indicated that the carapace contained 4 carotenoids namely ß-caroten, ecinenon, astaxanthin diester, and astaxanthin monoester. In addition, the epidermis contained free astaxanthin. In vitro antibacterial activity test indicated that astaxanthin had low bacteriostatic activity against Psedomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Proteus stuartii.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to know the diversity of  zooplankton in Wedi Ombo Bay, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, as candidates of live feed for spiny lobster (Panulirus homarus L.) larvae. Samples were  collected from August 2002 to January 2003 by using Van Dorn tubes water sampler at 0 m, 5 m and 10 m of water depth for each sampling point. The zooplankton was identified to the genera level.The result showed that 8 subclass zooplankton compraised of 24 genera, i.e. 15 genera of Copepoda, 2 genera of Branchiopoda, 1 genera of Ostracoda, 1 genera of Polychaeta, 2 genera of Rotifera, 1 genera of Malacostraca, 1 genera of Heteropoda and 1 genera of Appendicularia were found in Wedi Ombo Bay. Calanus had the highest dominance with density of  479 /50 l (24.1%). This zooplankton was  found in each depth of water. Acartia had the lowest dominance with density of 12/50 l (0,6%). Based on the opening mouth of P. homarus larvae (114 µm), it was found that the18 genera of zooplankton had sizes less than 114 µm which might be suitable for live feed of P. homarus larvae. However, 6 genera of zooplankton had sizes more than 114 µm which might be unsuitable for live feed of P. homarus larvae.Based on the abundance of zooplankton, the size of zooplankton and the opening  mouth of spiny lobster larvae, the best candidates of zooplankton for live feed of P. homarus larvae were Calanus an holoplanktonic copepod and Brachionus, a Rotifera.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine effect of halquinol addition as feed additive in artificial feed of baung (Mystus nemurus) seed. Some factor measured as indicators of the effect were growth rate, feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate and optimum dose of halquinol which resulted the best growth, feed conversion ratio (FCR) and survival rate. Baung fish seed (0,83 g of mean body weight) were used in this experiment. The seed were obtained from Freshwater Aquaculture Center (BBAT), Sukabumi,West Java. The test feed was commercial artificial feed powder which was pelleted. This research used Completely Random Design with 4 treatments in triplicates. The treatments were addition of halquinol in the feed with different concentration i.e.: A (0 mg/kg), B (12.5 mg/kg), C (25 mg/kg) and D(37.5 mg/kg). The result indicated that addition of halquinol in feed increased the growth rate and decreased feed conversion ratio, but did not affect the survival rate of baung seed. Addition of halquinol at 25 mg/kg feed gave the highest growth rate and lowest FCR.

Abstract

ω-3 HUFA are essential fatty acids for marine fish. Deficiency of these essential fatty acids is responsible for high mortality, low growth rate, incomplete formation and disfunction of swim bladder. This experiment was conducted to know dietary ω-3 HUFA requirement for growth of humpback  grouper juveniles.  Juveniles (9.8-10.3  g) were reared in 100 l of polycarbonate  tank with density of 12 juveniles/tank for 8 weeks with flow through system. The levels of ω-3 HUFA (EPA +DHA) supplementation in the test diet  were 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0  and 3.0%. The results showed that the levels of ω-3 HUFA affected the growth and feed efficiency of humpback grouper juveniles (P<0.05). The growth of juveniles fed diet with 0.0-3.0% ω-3 HUFA were  significantly different with the growth of juveniles fed diet with 0.0 and 0.5% ω-3 HUFA. The growth of juveniles fed diet with supplementation levels of ω-3 HUFA at 1.0,  1.5,  2.0,  and 3.0% were 182.2, 168.5, 183.4, and 189.4%, respectively. Whereas supplementation of  ω-3 HUFA at 0.0 and 0.5% resulted the growth of  114.9 and 139.6%, respectively. These results indicated that the requirement of ω-3 HUFA for growth of humpback grouper should be around 1.0% in diet.ω
