Abstract

The moral crisis among Indonesia’s young generation indicates that educational policies such as Strengthening Character Education (PPK) and the Independent Curriculum have not been fully effective in shaping students’ character. This condition underscores the urgency of reinforcing moral and spiritual values within the education system. This study aims to (1) describe the biography and educational thought of Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, (2) analyze the concept of character education in Ayyuha al-Walad, and (3) examine its relevance to character education in Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach and Krippendorff’s content analysis model, this study draws primary data from Ayyuha al-Walad and secondary data from al-Ghazali’s other works and supporting literature. The findings reveal that Ayyuha al-Walad encompasses key character values such as religiosity, honesty, perseverance, tolerance, independence, curiosity, appreciation of achievement, love of peace, responsibility, and social concern. These values are internalized through exemplary behavior, habituation, moral advice, and spiritual purification (tazkiyatun nafs). They align with Indonesia’s five pillars of national character education: religiosity, independence, mutual cooperation, integrity, and nationalism. Conceptually, al-Ghazali’s thought provides a philosophical and spiritual foundation for strengthening character education in Indonesia. The integration of moral and spiritual values into the curriculum can foster a generation that is intellectually capable, ethically grounded, and noble in character-consistent with the goals of national education.

Abstract

The demands of 21st-century learning place learning evaluation not only as a tool for measuring learning outcomes but also as a means of increasing student engagement and motivation. In the subject of Islamic Cultural History (SKI), studies on the use of Wordwall as a game-based evaluation medium are still relatively limited, especially in the context of Islamic high schools. This study aims to describe the implementation of Wordwall as a medium for evaluating SKI learning and its impact on the engagement and learning motivation of 25 students in class XI at MA Darul Ulum Palangka Raya. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interview, and documentation techniques, as well as Miles and Huberman's data analysis model. The results show that Wordwall can increase students' cognitive and affective engagement, strengthen learning motivation, and facilitate teachers in conducting evaluations through automatic scoring and real-time feedback. The obstacles found include limited learning time and the readiness of devices and networks. The novelty of this study lies in the use of Wordwall as a game-based digital evaluation medium in SKI learning in madrasah aliyah, which functions not only as an assessment tool but also as an evaluation strategy that encourages active and meaningful learning.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers play a crucial role in internalizing Islamic character values amidst advances in science and technology that bring both benefits and negative impacts. This study aims to describe the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in helping students of Muhammadiyah Islamic Senior High School (SMA Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School) Imam Syuhodo internalize Islamic character. This study also aims to describe the supporting and inhibiting elements in the process of internalizing Islamic character values. This study applies a qualitative phenomenological method in the form of field research. Data collection techniques include documentation, interviews, and observation. Muhammadiyah teachers serve as the primary data source. The research findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers contribute to the process of internalizing Islamic character in several ways, including as mentors, educators, motivators, evaluators, and facilitators. Some of the tactics used are being role models, practicing worship, providing guidance, and using lecture techniques that highlight motivational stories from Muhammadiyah leaders. Relevant teaching strategies and teacher role models are examples of supporting elements, but lack of student discipline is another major obstacle.

Abstract

Tahfidz Al-Qur’an learning plays an important role in Islamic education, particularly in maintaining the quality of Qur’anic recitation and fostering students’ character development. Modern Islamic boarding schools face challenges related to dense academic activities that may affect the consistency and quality of students’ memorization, thereby requiring effective and sustainable tahfidz learning strategies. This study aims to describe the strategies employed by tahfidz teachers in improving the quality of Qur’an memorization among ninth-grade male students at MTs Pondok Pesantren Modern Islam Assalaam, as well as to identify supporting factors, inhibiting factors, and the evaluation system implemented. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, while data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that tahfidz teachers place mastery of tahsin as a fundamental prerequisite before memorization and consistently apply the talaqqi, tikrar, and muraja’ah methods. The tahfidz program is supported by a religious boarding school environment, strong collaboration among educators, and an intensive supervision system, although it still faces obstacles such as fluctuations in students’ motivation, limited time availability, and differences in Qur’anic reading abilities. In conclusion, improving the quality of Qur’an memorization can be achieved through structured learning strategies, tiered evaluation systems, and intensive mentoring oriented toward the accuracy of recitation and the development of students’ spiritual character.

Abstract

The religious character of Vocational High School (SMK) students faces serious challenges amidst globalization and digitalization, leading to a decline in discipline, politeness, and religious consciousness. This condition demands character education strategies that transcend cognitive aspects, focusing instead on internalizing religious values through sustainable habituation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Asmaul Husna (The 99 Names of Allah) recitation as a strategy to revitalize the religious character of students at SMK Batik 1 Surakarta. It emphasizes the roles of leadership and teacher supervision in maintaining habituation sustainability and maps its impact on students' religious character within the SMK context.Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were then descriptively analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the routine and structured habituation of Asmaul Husna, supported by teacher leadership and supervision, successfully fosters a consistent school religious culture. Positive impacts are observed in improved student discipline, politeness, religious awareness, emotional stability, and social concern. However, program implementation still faces obstacles such as time management constraints, varying levels of students' Arabic literacy, infrastructure limitations, and the risk of activities becoming mere formalities without deep reflection on their meaning. This research contributes to the development of a school leadership-based religious habituation model relevant for vocational education environments.

Abstract

Character education in vocational high schools faces the challenges of vocational curriculum pragmatism and digital disruption in the Society 5.0 era, triggering moral degradation. This study aims to explore the operational strategies of Islamic Religious Education teachers in instilling noble character within the vocational ecosystem of SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological descriptive design was employed through in-depth interviews, participatory observation in practice laboratories and classrooms, and documentation studies. Subjects were selected using a purposive sampling technique, including religious teachers, the vice principal, and students. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model and validated through source and technique triangulation. Findings indicate a fundamental axiological paradigm reorientation, prioritizing adab over technical achievements. These strategies are operationalized through authentic personal role modeling or uswah hasanah, proactive pedagogical visits to laboratories to integrate trustworthiness with industrial standards, and communal habituation through spiritual organizations. Cross-disciplinary synergy with vocational teachers strengthens character building, despite constraints from high gadget usage that degrades communication ethics. This humanistic approach transforms student behavior evolutionarily from pseudo-compliance to intrinsic spiritual awareness in worship and socializing. In conclusion, character formation in the vocational ecosystem absolutely requires educators affective touch and tangible role modeling, which cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence technology.
