Abstract

Abstract This research examines Donald Trump and David Muir’s Utterances on ABC News and in Charlie Rose Show. The researcher also focuses positive politeness used by David Muir and Donald Trump. The researcher mainly utilized Pragmatics theory by Brown and Levinson which consists of four strategies, there are positive politeness, negative politeness, bald on record, and off record but, the researcher only focuses in positive politeness. As the methodology, the researcher used descriptive-qualitative approach to concern the description and the interpretation of Donald Trump videos. Under descriptive-qualitative method, this research significantly gives a wider understanding about how linguistic subjects emerges through pragmatics structure. The researcher gathered the data by downloading the interviews of Donald Trump on ABC News and in Charlie Rose Show, also the factors that influenced positive politeness used by David Muir and Donald Trump. As the result, there are 28 data were collected in this research and contained 10 types of positive politeness strategies based on Brown and Levinson’s theory. Moreover, there are two factors that influenced David Muir and Donald Trump. Those are social distance and relative power. Peneliti juga memfokuskan pada strategi kesantunan positif yang digunakan oleh David Muir dan Donald Trump. Peneliti menggunakan teori pragmatik dari Brown and Levinson yang terdiri dari empat strategi yaitu, kesantunan positif, kesantunan negatif, ujaran secara langsung, ujaran secara tidak langsung. Tetapi, peneliti hanya lebih fokus di strategi kesantunan positif. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang berhubungan dengan deskripsi dan interpretasi dari video Donald Trump. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif bisa memberikan pengertian lebih luas tentang pelajaran linguistik dengan melalui teori pragmatik. Peneliti memperolah data dengan mengunduh video wawancara Donald Trump di ABC News dan Charlie Rose Show dan ada dua faktor yang mempengaruhi David Muir dan Donald Trump. Sebagai hasil dari penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan 28 data yang terdapat di penelitian ini dan ada 10 macam srategi kesantunan positif. Selain itu ada 2 sebab yang mempengaruhi David Muir dan Donald Trump untuk melakukan strategi kesopanan positif yaitu jarak sosial dan kekuasaan tidak mutlak. Abstract

This paper examines the types of language functions used in the utterances and the one which is dominantly used in Meghan Markle’s speech. By applying qualitative method, the researcher analyze the utterance produced by Meghan Markle as the speaker, was delivering her speech. The researcher uses the five function of language proposed by Jakobson, they are referential function, conative function, emotive function, poetic function, and phatic function. The results show that there are five types of language functions used in Meghan Markle’s speech. The first most dominant function used is conative function (32%) which is found in 6 utterances. The second most dominant function is emotive function (26%) which is found in 5 utterances. Then referential function was found in 4 utterances (21%), phatic is found in 3 utterances (16%), while poetic function is found in 1 utterance only (5%). In addition, metalingual function is not used at all. Thus, it can be concluded that as the speaker, Meghan Markle wants to wants to influence her addressee through her utterances.Key word: Language, language function, speech

Abstract

AbstractThis paper aims to examine the application of the concept of feminism at the level of the American family through the analysis of a song entitled Dear Future Husband, sung by Meghan Trainor, an American singer. In analyzing this phenomenon the author uses the concept of feminism which is promoted by Kate Millett (1970) and mimetic approach. From the results of this study, it is found that in this song, the concept of feminism is still not fully applied in the family sphere. This is because women, as the subject of feminist understanding, still do not fully want this concept for themselves. Keywords: feminism, family, Meghan Traynor, America AbstrakMakalah ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji aplikasi konsep feminisme dalam tataran keluarga Amerika melalui analisa diskursi lagu berjudul Dear Future Husband yang dinyanyikan oleh Meghan Trainor, seorang penyanyi berkebangsaan Amerika. Dalam menganalisa fenomena ini penulis menggunakan konsep feminisme yang diusung oleh Kate Millett (1970) dan pendekatan mimetik. Dari hasil penelitian ini, didapat bahwa pada pada lagu ini, konsep feminisme masih belum sepenuhnya diaplikasikan dalam lingkup keluarga. Abstract

This research aims to identify politeness strategies reflected by the main character in “Bridge to Terabithia” movie. Qualitative method is used by the researcher to analyze the data. The data are the utterances of the main character that include politeness strategies. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses theory by Brown and Levinson (1987) about politeness strategies. The results of this research show that there are four types of politeness strategies which used by the main character in this movie. The most type that used is bald on record strategy and positive politeness strategy. The factors in using politeness strategies by the main character in this movie are payoffs in each strategy and circumstances (sociological variables). The researcher hopes that this research could give the contribution toward the next researchers. Moreover, some recommendations are given to the next researchers who will do the same research on politeness strategies either in the movie or in other forms. Key Words: Politeness strategies, Bridge to Terabithia

Abstract

AbstractThis study used bibliometric analysis to investigate the study of language maintenance over a ten-year window to find out major publication trends in sociolinguistics and provide a systematic overview of the field in general. The report covers the number of published papers, numbers of citations, and the journal impact factor. In view of keywords, citation and reference data obtained from Scopus journal, this investigation performed three sorts of bibliometric evaluations to distinguish the prominent scientific papers, research institutions, authors, number of citations, geographic areas, and topic of research that have been exceptionally compelling in the field of sociolinguistics, especially about language maintenance over the last decade. Results show that the total 1399 publications related to language maintenance experienced a sharp increase in 2013 and 2015. Additionally, there was no significant relationship between the number of authors in a highly cited article and its number of citations. This paper will help researchers, students, and academicians who are interested in sociolinguistics filed. The findings offer information based on a bibliometric report about the present state of the literature and suggest a change in publication trends regarding the literature on the language maintenance and shift.Keywords: bibliometric analysis, language maintenance, sociolinguistics bibliometric, Scopus, SSCI. AbstrakPenelitian ini menggunakan analisis bibliometri untuk mengeksplorasi studi tentang pemeliharaan bahasa selama sepuluh tahun yang bertujuan untuk melihat tren publikasi utama dalam sosiolinguistik dan memberikan gambaran sistematis terkait bidang tersebut secara umum. Laporan data dalam artikel ini mencakup jumlah makalah yang diterbitkan, jumlah kutipan, dan faktor dampak jurnal. Berdasarkan kata kunci, sitasi dan data referensi yang diperoleh dari jurnal terindeks Scopus, penelitian ini memaparkan tiga macam evaluasi bibliometri untuk membedakan karya ilmiah terkemuka, lembaga penelitian, penulis, jumlah sitasi, wilayah geografis, dan topik penelitian yang menarik di bidang sosiolinguistik, terutama tentang pemeliharaan bahasa selama satu dekade terakhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1399 publikasi yang berkaitan dengan pemeliharaan bahasa mengalami peningkatan tajam pada tahun 2013 dan 2015. Selain itu, tidak ada hubungan yang signifikan antara jumlah penulis dalam artikel yang sangat banyak dikutip dan jumlah kutipannya. Artikel ini akan membantu peneliti, mahasiswa, dan akademisi yang berminat dalam bidang sosiolinguistik. Hasil penelitian memberikan informasi berdasarkan laporan bibliometri tentang keadaan literatur saat ini dan menunjukkan perubahan tren publikasi terkait literatur tentang pemeliharaan dan pergeseran bahasa.Kata kunci: analisis bibliometri, bibliometrik sosiolinguistik, pemeliharaan bahasa, Scopus, SSCI.
