Abstract

Stringent ventilation regulations make the humidity problem more serious. In modern society, people spend most of their time in built environments. More attention has been paid to indoor air quality and indoor thermal comfort. Fresh air centered HVAC systems are necessary for almost all buildings. In this chapter, a quantitative analysis is provided for the energy expenses and possible savings in fresh air ventilation. More specifically, hot and humid climates like Palembang are selected as the calculating sample. Abstract

Oil and gas industry use drill pipe to make a well bore, the drill pipe conected one by one by operator.Drill pipe is the important tools to make the hole deeper to reach the resevoir.  Another function of drill pipe is to trasnfer the mud and make the circulation during the drilling job. Non productive time on oil and gas drilling operation is undesirable for several reason. One of them is the economic, because it can increase cost, time, and decrase productitity. The problem that often happends is failiure of drill pipe. This paper is aimed to analize the charateristic faiulure on drill pipe in PDSI D1500/53 drilling rig. Material examination which have been done is tensile test, hardness test, spectometer test,  fractography, and SEM EDX. The result shoed that fatigue and corrosion fatigue was the root cause of failiure.  Keywords: Drill Pipe, Failure, Fatigue

Abstract

Frequent complaints from workers in the company regarding the unavailability of hot water for bathing water needs during the rainy season. To fulfill hot water needs for company workers, it is necessary to install a water heater in each mess for comfort for workers. This experiment is also in line with supporting the Government and Company programs in terms of the efficiency of the energy and global warming beneficiaries that are currently happening. Water heater technology (WH) is considered the most recent and used as an alternative. Its main function is to supply hot water needs in all parts of the housing that are in need. The amount of heated water is adjusted to the needs of the dwelling whether it's for bathing, kitchen matters, and washing. Because it is used when needed, the efficiency side is greatly highlighted from the water heater product (WH). Abstract

An analysis of the strength of the material on the framework of the digital triaxial apparatus to increase the maximum working capability to 50 kN has been performed. A digital triaxial device is a test machine used to determine the properties of a soil sample. Analysis of the framework of this tool is needed to see the character of the material used so as to obtain maximum performance to support the performance of the digital triaxial device. The frame in question consists of a bottom base, two poles, and a beam rod positioned at the top of the pole. The analysis performed using 3D Solidworks software utilizes structural analysis features. Pressures of 50 kN are given in a vertical direction so as to press the midpoint of the bottom base and the beam rod, both of which are attached to the pole using a nut as anchoring. The analysis result shows that Stress Von Mises maximum vallue that works on parts is 1.664,7 kgf/cm2.  Keywords: Triaxial Digital, load- frame, structure analysis, 50 KN

Abstract

A chemical plant needs some high accurate instrumentations in order to support an efficient production process. Flow meter, one of instrumentation types, has function to read the flow rate of a fluid. The error of reading in flow meter can cause some problems such as incorrect reaction doses and the error in the amount of product transferred to consumer. Flow meter installation has to fulfil some requirements in order to achieve an accurate measurement. The altering of flow direction can change the flow pattern and triggers a swirling flow which has to be avoided when it flows through flow meter.  Generally flow meter is designed can be work well in an ideal condition. The requirements are a uniform velocity profile, free from a swirling flow and turbulence flow regime. A limitation of space sometimes causes a problem when installing flow meter in an ideal condition. A 45° inclination of flow straightener has better performance in eliminating the swirling flow and improving the velocity profile. By installing the flow straightener in various locations, the required fluid pattern can be obtained as closer as possible form the upstream.  In this research, the authors conduct a CFD analysis to the flow of bio-diesell inside the pipe before it is read by flow meter. Keywords: : Flow Straightener, Swirling Flow, Flow Meter

Abstract

Reinforcing steel is a very important material contained in the concrete, where it has a function as a tensile load receiver where the concrete is very weak in receiving the tensile load. In the event of concrete and reinforced concrete fires can be complementary because the reinforcing steel can accept tensile load while the concrete can accept the press load. The method of testing conducted in this study using the method of tensile testing, metallography, and composition testing. Where prior to testing the reinforcing steel is first casted in the concrete after it is done combustion process with a temperature of 400 ° C, 600 ° C, 800 ° C and cooled with water and air cooling medium. After done all the testing process got result that is reinforcing steel which has the most optimal tensile stress occurred at temperature of 600 ° C with water cooling media which got value of tensile strength equal to 596,46 N / mm2. Keywords: : Reinforcing Steel, Tensile Test

Abstract

Abstract

The use of energy is important today due to the rapid decrease in fossil energy entire the world. The world should consider of using energy as efficient as possible. Waste energy from engines and other energy converters is released as hot air in the atmosphere. Waste heat energy is able to recover by using water heat exchanger. This research aims to experimentally examining the use of waste heat from room air conditioner as home energy source. A cross flow concentric pipe heat exchanger is used as the condenser for a room air conditioner to cover the exhaust energy from the condenser. The results shows that by using a concentric pipe condenser, the exhaust energy is benefit to decrease the paid energy equal to Rp. 57.000,-  monthly electricity bill. The other supplementary beneficial equal to Rp. 564.249,- electricity bill gained from exhaust energy of the air conditioner.    Keywords: : hot air, energy source
