Abstract

Objective: One of the signs pregnant women suffer in the first trimester is nausea and vomiting, which hyperemesis gravidarum can even exacerbate. Symptoms of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy can be overcome pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. One of the non-pharmacological therapies that are simple, inexpensive, effective, and without adverse side effects is acupressure or massage at point 6 of the pericardium. This report aims to provide midwifery care to pregnant women with complementary acupressure therapy to reduce nausea and vomiting. Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and pre-test design. The sample of this study was 30 pregnant women who experienced emesis gravidarum at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya. The sampling technique in this study was carried out using proportional total sampling. This research was conducted from March to July 2019. The research instrument used the RINVR questionnaire. Results: The study’s results are related to the calculation of the A.symp.sig nausea score. (2-tailed) obtained a value of 0.005 <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant difference between the results of the post-test and the results of the pre-test. Vomiting score calculation obtained by Asymp.sig. (2-tailed) obtained a value of 0.004 <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant difference between the results of the post-test and the results of the pre-test. Calculation of nausea vomiting scores obtained Asymp.sig. (2-tailed) obtained a value of 0.005 <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant difference between the results of the post-test and the results of the pre-test. Calculation of the total score obtained Asymp.sig. (2-tailed) obtained a value of 0.005 <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant difference between the results of the post-test and the results of the pre-test.Conclusion: Based on the study’s results, it was found that complementary acupressure therapy effectively treats nausea and vomiting (emesis gravidarum) in first-trimester pregnant women at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Surabaya. Therefore health workers can apply acupressure in midwifery care, especially in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester.

Abstract

Objective: The postpartum period is a process of adaptation to physical and psychological changes. Anxiety is often ignored so that it goes undiagnosed. If this continues, it can cause postpartum psychological disorders. Massage intervention is one of the efforts to prevent and deal with psychological problems. This study aimed to determine the effect of giving massage with the effleurage technique on postpartum maternal anxiety. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population in this study were postpartum mothers who gave birth at Al-Aqsa 4 Room, East Java Province Haji Hospital, in March 2019. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with 22 respondents according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The intervention was given two times for two days for 15 minutes duration. The research instrument used was the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). The statistical test used paired t-test with a significant value of the different tests (Sig. 2-tailed)Results: The study’s results explained that the paired t-test result of 0.000 was less than 0.05. This shows a difference in the average value of anxiety before and after giving massage effleurage. Conclusion: Performing massage effleurage treatment has a significant effect on reducing postpartum maternal anxiety. Massage therapy has been proven to be effective in relieving anxiety. In addition, massage effleurage can reduce levels of hydrocortisol, adrenaline, and noradrenaline that trigger anxiety.

Abstract

Objective: Anxiety about the installation procedure is an obstacle experienced by prospective acceptors of the IUD method. One way to reduce anxiety is to use hypnotherapy techniques. This study aims to determine the effect of hypnotherapy on the anxiety of prospective IUD family planning acceptors. Methods: This research was a quasi-experimental study with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach without a control group. This research was carried out at TPMB Farida Hajri in January - March 2021. The population under study consisted of up to 40 candidate IUD acceptors. Anxiety was measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Test data were analyzed using Wilcoxon. Results: There was a decrease in the anxiety level of prospective IUD acceptors before and after receiving non-pharmacological hypnotherapy by 10.8 points. Based on the calculation results of the Wilcoxon signed rank test, a Z value of -6.145 was obtained with a significance value of < 0.000 (p < 0.05), which was a significant difference before and after the intervention. Conclusion: There are differences in the level of anxiety before and after receiving non-pharmacological therapy in the form of hypnotherapy intervention. Anxiety in family planning acceptors is something that needs to be considered because it can cause an increase in pain scores in IUD acceptors. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to manage anxiety to increase comfort in inserting the IUD so that it was expected to increase the coverage of contraceptive use, especially IUD contraception.
