Abstract

The purpose of this study was to produce a fish smoking device for hot smoking and cold smoking methods. This study used 3 types of fish, namely paha fish (Leptobrama sp.), stingray (Dasyatis sp.), and tilapia fish (Oreochromis mossambicus), and the fuel used as fuel for smoking is coconut shell. The data measured included smoking room temperature data, fish weight before and after smoking. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that smoking fish using hot smoking and cold smoking methods with specifications, length 50 cm, width 50 cm, overall height 83 cm. This tool consists of three main components, namely, a fumigation chamber which is combined with a hot smoking biomass combustion chamber, a cold smoking biomass combustion chamber and a connecting pipe. The performance test of the tool was carried out by calculating the weight loss of fish during hot smoking and cold smoking. The smoking time used for hot smoking is 2 hours (temperature 50 – 75℃) and cold smoking 4 hours (30 – 45 ℃). The results showed that the highest percentage of weight loss during hot smoking occurred in stingrays on the second shelf, which was 29.25%, while the highest percentage of weight loss during cold smoking occurred in stingrays on the first shelf, which was 23.79%. The weight loss of fish in both hot and cold smoking is strongly influenced by the smoking time, the distance between the smoking rack and the heat source and the type of fish. Keywords : cold, heat, shrinkage, smoking, weight

Abstract

The Mayang River in Jember Regency has a length of approximately 145.50 km which is the longest river and can irrigate an area of 5,860 hectares. The use of the Mayang River by the community can produce waste, both domestic waste, agricultural waste, and livestock waste. Waste that enters directly into river bodies can cause a decrease in river water quality and can create a pollution load. Therefore, the measurement of the load capacity of the Mayang River was conducted. Mayang River water samples were taken using the grab sampling method, while the river's capacity was determined using the Streeter Phelps method. The results showed that the average value of the Mayang River pollution load was 219,483 kg/day. Some of the parameters used to determine the carrying capacity of the river are the daily deoxygenation rate of 0.137 mg/L and the dailyy reaeration rate of 1.097 mg/L. It has a critical point (tc) of 0.186, a critical distance (Xc) of 4.753 km, and a critical deficit (Dc) of 0.281 mg/L. Based on these parameters, it is concluded that the Mayang River can accommodate a pollution load of 1.5 kg/day and can carry out proper purification. Keywords : grab sampling method, Streeter Phelps, the deoxygenation rate, the reaeration rate

Abstract

Sukasari in Sumedang areas is one of the areas producing mole tobacco with the best quality with a production capacity of 1.2 tons.ha-1 once harvested. However, the tobacco chopping system has been still conventional which results in the inhibition of tobacco supply from producers (farmers) to consumers. The tool used was to use a knife to slice rolled tobacco with a chopping capacity of 35 kg per 2 worker per day. So the time was need to chopped 1.2 tons of tobacco in 35 days. Besides to long processing time, farmers often feels of back pain sick and right hand cramps, considering the average age of farmers have been above 50 years because the chopping process is carried out every day when the harvest season arrives. Therefore, a study need regarding the engginering design and technical analysis of tobacco chopper machines so that the chopping capacity can the production capacity of 1.2 tons.ha-1. The aims of study is to design a prototype tobacco chopper machine with a capacity of 140 kg.hour-1. This method used in this research is engineering design which is to carry out a design activity that is not routine, so that in it there is a new contribution, both in form and product.  The result of the technical analysis of this tobacco chopper machine is that the chopping power is 0.59 HP, the dimensions of the chopper machine are 800 mm (length) x 757 mm (width) x 1000 mm (height) with the prime mover using a 1 HP electric motor. Actual capacity based on measurement is 66 kg/hour with 96.7% yield. Keywords: chopper machine, engine design, mole tobacco

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of the use of organic fertilizers and organic pesticides on eggplant productivity and the level of erosion hazards that occur on these intensive agricultural lands. The use of organic fertilizers and pesticides is expected to improve soil quality which in turn will increase crop productivity and reduce erosion yield. Randomized block design (RBD) was used with a combination of dosage treatment of organic fertilizers (P) and organic pesticides (B). The dosages of organic fertilizers used were: 0 kg/bed (P1/control), 1 kg/bed (P2), 1.5 kg/bed (P3) and 2 kg/bed (P4). The doses of pesticides used were chemical pesticides 2 ml/liter (B1/control), organic pesticides 7 ml/liter (B2), 9 ml/liter (B3) and 11 ml/liter (B4). The highest productivity research results were obtained from combination of P4B1 (fertilizer dose 2kg/bed + chemical pesticides). This shows that organic fertilizers and pesticides can increase plant productivity. However, organic pesticides have not been able to reduce pest attacks during the fertilization phase. On the other hand, the rate of erosion has actually increased which is not significantly different between the use of organic fertilizers and chemical fertilizers. This is due to the increase in the content of organic matter and changes in soil texture which cause the soil to become loose and crumb so that it is more easily eroded. Thus the use of organic fertilizers and pesticides can be used continuously in intensive agriculture but must be accompanied by other conservation activities to reduce the erosion yield. In addition, it is necessary to develop more effective organic pesticides to eradicate pests and plant diseases. Keywords: erosion, eggplant plants, intensive agriculture, organic fertilizer, organic pesticide.
