Jurnal Teknik Pertanian Lampung or Journal of Agricultural Engineering (JTEP-L) is a peer-reviewed open-access journal. The journal invites scientists and engineers throughout the world to exchange and disseminate theoretical and practice-oriented researches in the whole aspect of Agricultural Enginering including but not limited to Agricultural Mechanization, Irrigation, Soil and Water Engineering, Postharvest Technology, Renewable Energy, Farm Structure, and related fields. The first issue was published in October 2012 by Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. Jurnal Teknik Pertanian Lampung has ISSN number 2302 - 559X for print edition on October 10, 2012 then 2549 - 0818 for online edition on January 10, 2017. Jurnal Teknik Pertanian Lampung is issued periodically four times a year in March, June, September, and December. Jurnal Teknik Pertanian Lampung has been indexed by Google Scholar, Crossref, Directory Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and CABI. Since Volume 5 Issue 1 (2016) Jurnal Teknik Pertanian Lampung has been accredited as SINTA 3 by Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI). Starting Volume 10 Issue 3 (2021) the journal received accreditation SINTA 2.

Abstract

Nitrogen (N) fertilization in coffee agroforestry system requires proper management to increase N use efficiency (NUE) and minimize N losses. This study investigated the impact of different fertilization management on N losses, N uptake, and N storage in a coffee-based agroforestry system. The study was conducted using three types of fertilizer (organic, inorganic, and mixture of organic-inorganic) with three doses (low, medium, and high), and a control treatment (no fertilization), with 3 replications. Soil leachate was collected using lysimeter at 50 cm depth (below coffee root zone) and gas emissions were collected monthly using chamber for 4 months. Soil sample at 0-20 cm depth and leaf sample were also collected. The variables included NH₄⁺ and NO₃ˉ concentration in the leachate and soil, soil N total, N uptake, N emission, N use efficiency (NUE) and partial N balance. Results showed no significant differences in N leaching or plant N uptake across treatments. However, the mixed fertilizer with high dose treatment significantly increased soil N availability while reducing N₂O emissions and improving the overall N balance. This suggests that a high dose mixed fertilizer application can enhance N utilization in coffee-based agroforestry systems, potentially improving productivity while minimizing environmental impacts. Keywords: Agroforestry, Fertilization, Nitrogen balance, Nitrogen loss, Nitrogen storage.

Abstract

The utilization of technology in the agricultural industry is significantly growing recently. This is mostly due to its ability to enhance labor and land productivity, while simultaneously reducing production costs. The objective of this study is to examine the institutional performance and utilization of farm machinery (alsintan) by rice farmers, and to investigate the correlation between institutional performance and alsintan usage on the productivity and income of rice farmers. The study was carried out in two villages in the Central Lampung Regency, namely Rengas Village in Bekri District, and Trimurjo Village in Trimurjo District. Rice farmers in both villages actively utilized alsintan operated under the alsintan service unit (UPJA). The study findings indicate a strong and meaningful correlation between institutional performance and the utilization of alsintan with productivity and income level of tarmers. Alsintan technology directly impacted productivity and revenue with coefficients of 0.63 and 0.60, with confidence levels of 99.9% and 99.7%, respectively. Institutional performance indirectly affected them with a coefficient of 0.30 and a confidence level of 99.99%. The integration of enhancing institutional performance with the optimization of alsintan technology can foster the enhancement of other factors, such as human resource performance, group member involvement, and external environmental support. Keywords: Alsintan, Institutional, Optimization.

Abstract

Garlic is an important commodity as a basic spice for various dishes with several health benefits such as lowering blood pressure and improving immune system. Fresh garlic has a high moisture content of 60.9-67.8%, making it highly susceptible to microbial spoilage. The drying process is a critical post-harvest step for garlic that significantly influences product quality and shelf life. This study aims to design a garlic drying system enhanced with solar collector and parafin as a thermal storage medium. Parafin provides heat during periods of low sunlight, allowing continuous drying. The methodology includes the design, construction, and testing of the drying equipment. Functional tests demonstrate effective operation of the dryer components. The results of testing the dryer for drying garlic were able to reduce the water content of garlic from 60% wb to 11.2% wb for 8 h of drying. The use of paraffin has proven to be effective in helping to maintain the drying temperature, especially when the intensity of sunlight is reduced, so that the drying process remains optimal.

Abstract

Calcareous soils have great potential for the development of food crops and horticulture, but they are constrained by high pH, low organic matter content, and less than optimal cation exchange capacity, thus affecting the availability of nutrients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of organic fertilizer enriched with humic acid on soil chemical quality, nutrient uptake, and yield of shallots on calcareous soils. The study was designed with two factors, namely type of organic fertilizer (manure and bokashi) and concentration of humic acid (0%, 10%, and 20%) added to the organic fertilizer. The results of the study showed that the application of organic fertilizers, both manure and bokasih, had a similar effect on soil quality and shallot yields. However, the addition of humic acid at a concentration of 20% significantly improved the chemical properties of the soil, nutrient uptake (especially nitrogen and potassium), as well as the yield component of shallots when compared to the concentration of 10% and control. The addition of humic acid has been proven to be effective in improving nutrient availability and supporting plant growth. This innovation can be an effective solution to improve the quality of calcareous soils and agricultural products, especially shallots, which supports sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture. Keywords: Calcareous soil, Humic acid, Nutrient uptake, Organic fertilizer, Shallots.

Abstract

Soil water availability is crucial for supporting plant growth, especially in drylands that rely on rainfall as the primary source to meet plant water needs. Rainfall variability complicates the prediction of planting times and the optimization of cropping patterns. This condition negatively impacts productivity and increases the risk of flooding and landslides. This study aims to analyze the land water balance using the Thornthwaite Mather method on nine existing planting patterns and schedules, and to recommend strategies that can be implemented to prevent water deficit conditions. A descriptive method with a quantitative approach was used to analyze agroclimatic data to identify periods of water surplus and deficit. The results of the water balance analysis show that water surplus occurs from November to May, while deficit occurs from June to October. Conservation strategies, such as rainwater harvesting through microcatchment and macrocatchment systems, are proposed as effective approaches to address water deficit. These strategies can increase water availability, reduce the risk of crop failure, and optimize the use of available water resources. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for developing adaptive cropping patterns and enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector in the face of climate change. Keywords: Dry land, Rainwater harvesting, Thornthwaite-Mather, Water balance, Water management.

Abstract

Jember State Polytechnic has a fish canning teaching factory with a productivity of 7 q of fish per production. The canned fish product is a superior product, but the quality and type of products produced are low quality and less desirable. Therefore, product diversification is needed to increase the added value of canned fish. The fluctuating production capacity at teaching factory (TeFa) Fish Canning is an obstacle in determining production capacity according to market demand. The aim of this research is to diversify products and optimize fish canning products. This research was carried out using two methods, namely selecting superior products for TeFa fish canning using the Analytical Network Process (ANP) method and determining production capacity using the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS)-Tsukamoto method. The research results show that TeFa fish canning's superior product was determined by considering 4 criteria and 12 sub-criteria to produce tongkol balado with the highest weight value and followed by sardines with chili sauce, yellow seasoning tuna, and tuna salt solution. Simulation results for optimizing canned fish production are 5.7863 q/day which provides the optimum supply of canned fish. Keywords: Analytic Network Process (ANP), Fish canning, Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) Tsukamoto, New product selection, Production capacity.

Abstract

This research was conducted to explore the effectiveness of combined Trickling Filter (TF) and Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) method in processing liquid waste from chicken slaughterhouses through local and economical media. Microorganisms were grown by inserting liquid waste into a TF tank containing gravel, used ceramics, coconut shells, and pumice. Subsequently, liquid waste flowed into a rotating biological contactor added with local microorganisms from stale rice and fermented banana stems. Waste treatment was carried out with variations in retention time of 1, 3, and 6 h. The results showed that at 6 h, the organic compound decreased significantly. The removal efficiency obtained was 87.05%, 82.11%, 90.51%, 22.57%, 79.36%, and 88.66% for Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Total Suspended Solids, Total Dissolved Solids, Turbidity, and Ammonia, respectively. This high efficiency was supported by the collaboration between the activity of microorganisms attached to the TF biofilm and the use of local microorganisms in decomposing organic compounds in the rotating biological contactor. The combination of the two methods has been proven to help waste treatment process from chicken slaughterhouses in an environmentally friendly and efficient manner. Keywords: Biofilm, Chicken slaughterhouse waste, Local microorganisms, Rotating biological contactor, Trickling filter.
