Abstract

The vernacular house is a heritage building that still exists which is usually inhabited for generations. Some people in Indonesia still live in vernacular houses, one of which is in Jabungan Village, Semarang City. The forms and architectural elements that make up the vernacular house are not changed much, as if it were an artefact in the house. This can be explored more deeply about the meaning or idea of a vernacular house, it requires research based on levels of reality. The five levels of reality are empirical reality, symbolic reality, meaning reality, idea reality, and value reality/ worldview. The approach to be carried out is by studying literature and field studies by means of documentation and interviews. The conclusions obtained were in the form of a finding of the level of reality on the artefacts of a vernacular house and architectural elements that exist in Jabungan Village, Semarang City.

Abstract

Happiness is the right of all human beings, children, adults and parents, they have the right to be happy with different sizes of happiness. This difference in the size of happiness is because each individual has different experiences and life patterns so that the assessment of the expected happiness is also different. The research "Elderly Miss Happy (Case Study: Javanese Family in the SUCI Elderly Group RW 06 and RW 07 Banyumanik District Semarang)" uses symbolic interaction theory. The problem of this research is what and how to measure the happiness of the Javanese ethnic elderly and in what way they endeavor it and what is gained from this happiness, starting from seeing experiences and life patterns, hopes for happiness to the reality of realized happiness. This research uses a phenomenological method. Phenomenology is a method to finding the meaning behind the phenomenon being revealed. Besides that, it also uses qualitative data, primary data sources and secondary data. Primary data sources are from observations and interviews while secondary data sources are from previous research and books. The results of this study are: (1) the measure of elderly happiness is measured by the elderly's meaning of their life experiences. Being a part of the SUCI’s group is positioned as a substitute with children and being happy with other elderly people, (2) when they are aware of their old age, life choices are more oriented towards the happiness of the end of their life and after their death. The method taken is to deepen religious knowledge. They find happiness in the SUCI group because in this group they can more intensively carry out religious activities. This means that the needs of elderly are gathering each others because of the warm interactions between the elderly. The argument given is the awareness that their children have high mobility, causing the family to be busier and less concerned about the elderly so that the elderly who live with the family feel less family support. The relentless nature of Javanese elderly prefers to reduce conflict causes they not to ask their family first, for attention and try to find happiness outside the home. Happiness is present when the elderly join the SUCI elderly group.

Abstract

This paper discusses what are the benefits of Marine Protected Area (MPA) in relation to SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) number 14 on marine ecosystems. Furthermore, it is discussed how the prospect of the Benoa Bay coast as an MPA. Sustainable development requires a balance between social inclusion, ecological conservation and economic benefits; but in practice MPA among stakeholders places more importance on one pillar than the other. Then it is reviewed how about the status of Benoa Bay as MPA based on the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries decree number 46/KEPMEN-KP/2019 which has divided into core zones and limited use zones. In this case, the core zone is used for Hinduism ritual activities of local communities, while the one is used for small-scale fisheries and marine tourism activities. Thus, Benoa Bay serves to preserve local wisdom and customs, as well as the locus for religious activities of the Balinese people. Finally,  Benoa Bay as an MPA is part of the success of the indigenous peoples' movement and academic studies to encourage the state's commitment to achieve national and global targets to seek 10 percent of Indonesia's territorial waters as MPA. The prospect of Benoa Bay as an MPA in the future is expected to be in line with the goals of sustainable development with the impact of creating social inclusion, improving the welfare of local communities and ensuring the sustainability of marine ecosystems in the coastal areas of Bali.

Abstract

Several districts and cities in Central Java have begun to identify the richness of local history, art and culture to become regional icons. Pati Regency is currently starting to develop a discourse as "Kethoprak City". Meanwhile, the city of Solo - Solo is often referred to as the hometown of kethoprak - was previously known as the City of Tourism and Culture because it has various assets of Javanese history, culture and arts. Kethoprak Pati (kethoprak pesisiran) and kethoprak Solo and Jogja (kethoprak Mataraman), if we look closely, will find several differences, one of which can be seen from the tendency of the plays in the performance. Kethoprak Pati features many plays that tell the story of the north coast of Java (Coastal Java). Some of the plays that are often played include the character Saridin that we can see in many plays such as Saridin Born, Saridin Andum Waris, Geger Palembang, Ontran-ontran Cirebon, Bedhahing Ngerum, Ondorante, and Lulang Kebo Landoh. The people of Pati and its surroundings recognize Saridin as a strange person and likes to do whatever he wants. However, he is also known as a powerful person and often breaks through common logic to reveal truth and justice. The existence of Saridin in the speech stories and kethoprak performances is often seen as a representation of critical wisdom in the Javanese coastal community.
