Abstract

EMKONTAN is a student-centered learning model, which is oriented in creative learning, problem-solving (problem-based learning), collaborative learning, and giving opportunity for students to improve their environmental literacy. This study aims to analyze the validity and practicality of the EMKONTAN model in improving creativity, collaborative skills, and environmental literacy of prospective biology teachers. This study was carried out in the even semester of the academic year of 2020/2021 at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang and Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. This study involved 150 students in an even semester (Semester II) thru total sampling. Validity instruments used in this study comprised validation sheets for material, method, and media experts. Meanwhile, the instruments for practicality used observation sheets which were focused on the learning implementation, relevant student activities, and obstacles found during the learning processes. The results of the EMKONTAN model indicate that the model has content validity, constructs, and faces that are very feasible to be implemented in the learning process. Additionally, the results of practicality for the EMKONTAN model involve the implementation for each syntax with an average score of <3,6 in a very good category; the students’ activities are in a very active category with the average score of <85%, and the obstacle found is pandemic period; thus, online learning is required. Yet, the risks can decrease the effectiveness of learning. The implication of this research is that the application of the EMKOTAN model in universities by lecturers in related subjects will support efforts to increase environmental literacy for prospective biology teacher students.

Abstract

The 21st-century education requires students to be able to master 21st-century skills, namely communication and collaboration skills. Communication and collaboration skills are very important for students to develop their personalities in learning, because they cause individual and group interaction to gain knowledge and learning experience from each other. 21st-century skills can be practiced through the study of biology, because biology has values of scientific nature, cooperation, respect for the opinions of others, and openness to various phenomena that have just occurred. This study aims to measure the influence of problem-based and project-based learning on the communication and collaboration skills of grade X students of SMA Negeri 10 Malang. The implementation of this study used the Problem-Oriented Project-Based Learning (POPBL) model to direct students to create creative products. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental research using the pretest post-test nonequivalent control group design. Communication and collaboration skills were measured using instruments in the form of self-assessment and peer assessment questionnaires. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed using the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) test. The results of the study showed that the implementation of Problem-Oriented Project-Based Learning (POPBL) has a significant effect on students' communication and collaboration skills. These findings suggest that problem-based and project-based learning models can develop students' communication and collaboration skills.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of using Notion-based e-modules to improve students' digital literacy. The study was implemented in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach. The design of the study used a pretest-posttest control group design.  The data obtained were analyzed using a t-test to compare the results. The finding of study shows that the average pretest and posttest scores in the control class show a difference score of (0.52) less than the experimental class (22.00). Meanwhile the percentage of score increase obtained in the control class is (0.79%) lower than in the experimental class (33.28%). So it can be concluded that the increasing score of students’ digital literacy in the experimental class higher than the control class. Based on the results of data analysis using the t-test showed a significant increase scores in posttest compared to pretest score (t(62)= 82.76, p<0,0001), the control group also showed increase scores but not significantly different between the pretest and posttest scores (t(59)= 1,95, p=0.0571). It can be interpreted that the experimental group showed a more significant increase compared to the control group. So, the conclusion of the study show that the use of Notion-based E-modules has a significant impact on improving students' digital literacy. Further research is recommended to expand the scope of subjects from other study programs and compare the effectiveness of Notion with other digital platforms.

Abstract

Senior and vocational high school students need to have strong environmental literacy (EL) to face environmental challenges and support the achievement of SDGs. High EL levels, supported by spiritual values, encourage students to make wise, environmentally friendly decisions and become agents of environmental conservation. Muhammadiyah schools play an important role in this regard through subjects that integrate religion and life. However, there has been no mapping of spirituality-based EL profiles among Muhammadiyah students in Malang Raya. This study aims to analyze the spirituality-based EL profile of Senior and Vocational High School Muhammadiyah students in Malang Raya. Using a cross-sectional survey approach, EL data from 584 students in grades X, XI, and XII in nine Muhammadiyah schools were collected and analyzed based on gender, class, and parental education. The results showed that there was no significant difference in EL between male and female students, as well as between classes. However, parental education, especially fathers and mothers who did not attend school, had a significant effect, although the effect was small to moderate. These findings suggest that life experience and parenting factors may influence students' EL, and that educational environment factors require further exploration to fully understand their influence.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem in Desa Sutera, Kayong Utara Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, serves as a habitat for various species of gastropods, many of which hold significant ecological and economic value. Data collection on gastropod species in this region is vital for establishing a baseline understanding of coastal and marine biodiversity, which is essential for the development of integrated and sustainable coastal management strategies. This study aimed to assess the species composition and abundance of mangrove gastropods in Desa Sutera. Sampling was conducted in May 2024 during low tide across four stations using quadrat transects. Thirteen species of mangrove gastropods were identified, representing nine genera and seven families, including Chicoreus capucinus, Clypeomorus bifasciata, Cassidula nucleus, Littoraria carinifera, L. melanostoma, L. scabra, Onchidium sp., Nerita balteata, Neripteron violaceum, Pirenella alata, P. cingulata, Cerithidea quoyii, and C. obtusa. Among these, P. cingulata and L. carinifera were the most abundant, whereas L. melanostoma and C. obtusa were the least prevalent. The gastropods were found inhabiting sandy and rocky substrates, as well as attached to the roots, trunks, and leaves of mangrove trees. This finding offers essential insights into the biodiversity and community structure of mangrove gastropods in the region, forming a basis for conservation and management strategies to protect this vital ecosystem.

Abstract

The Kurikulum Merdeka emphasizes integrating local wisdom into education to develop students’ soft skills and character. Traditional foods like koro benguk tempe (TKB), a fermented product made from Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC. from Dimoro Village, Central Java, offer an excellent avenue for such integration in biotechnology education. A survey at Yadika 4 High School revealed a lack of local wisdom-based practical guides, demanding the need for resources that could enhance student engagement in biotechnology knowledge. This study developed practical guidelines for TKB production, focusing on its organoleptic properties, integration feasibility, and feedback from teachers and students. Laboratory experiments and module development were combined to collect data. Organoleptic tests identified 0.3% starter concentration as optimal, producing tempe with a white color, soft texture, and pleasant taste. The practical guidelines achieved a validation score of 89% from language, material, and media experts, while teachers rated them at 90%, and students responded positively with a 73% score. Further research is needed to refine the fermentation process of TKB beyond 36 hours and analyze its pH content. Expanding the study to include other fermented local products could further enhance biotechnology learning. Integrating local wisdom through practical guides not only promotes cultural preservation but also improves students' memory, manipulative skills, creativity, communication, and responsibility.
