Abstract

The use of manure in the area of  Dieng Plateau is likely to increase from year to year. Excessive use of fertilizer has the potential to disturb soil fauna. The objective of  this research are to know the effect of intensively use of pure chicken manure and chicken manure in combination with husk in the Dieng Plateau potato farm, Sembungan Village to structure of soil microarthropods. Sampling was located in two station of potatoes farmland that uses pure chicken manure (chicken manure: CM) and chicken manure in combination with husk (chicken manure + husk :CMS). Soil sampling was applied using transect line method with five sampling points. The structure of soil microarthropods communities was analysed into relative abundance, the Shannon-Wiener’s diversity index, the evenness index, the Sorensen’s similarity index, and Hutcheson’s t-test. The results showed that the density of soil microarthropods on potato farmland using chicken manure in combination with husk (5620 individuals/m2) was higher than farmland using pure chicken manure (1830 individual/m2). The dominant taxa in both farmland are Acari and Collembola. Based on the index of Sorensen similarities, the composition of soil microarthropods in both farmlands is relatively similar (76%). Statistically, the diversity of soil microarthropods between the two different potatoes farmland is significantly different.

Abstract

Broiler chicken meat is a a kind of food that is easily spoilage due to bacterial growth. The chicken meat sold in the market could potentially become a medium of microbial growth of foodborne diseases. The aims of this research was to  determined the microbiological quality of chicken meat sold at traditional market in  Banyumanik, Semarang City and  examined the source of bacterial contaminant especially E. coli on chicken meat. Samples were taken from two markets in Banyumanik, namely Dm Market and Jt Market of Semarang. The samples were purposive taken, from two different sellers in each market. Sampling was conducted at 08.00 AM and 10.00 AM. The parameters in this study are the total number of bacteria, the number of E. coli and the presence of Salmonella sp.  The results showed that all samples examined did not meet the standard of good quality microbiological requirements for chicken meat according to SNI 3924:2009, regarding total bacteria, E. coli content and the presence of Salmonella sp. The results of observations by contact plate technique found that 50% of tools used by chicken meat sellers were contaminated by E. coli.

Abstract

There is agricultural land around the Semarang Gedong Songo Temple area. The existence of land adjacent to tourist sites, how to manage land and the insistence of various interests may affect the condition of existing land and vegetation. The purpose of this study is to examine the composition of vegetation and vegetation structure, on agricultural land around the tourist area of Gedong Songo Temple. Sampling uses a quadratic plot with a line transect. Sampling was carried out on 3 strata, trees 10m x 10m, shrubs 5m x 5m, and herbs 1m x 1m. Data collection was carried out on sample plots, vegetation structures were assessed based on density, frequency and dominance values. Important value index (IVI ) is obtained from the sum of the values of relative density, relative frequency and relative dominance. The results showed 2 types of trees, 5 types of shrubs and 11 types of herbs, most of the herbs are weeds. Horticultural plants tend to be dominant (high IVI) due to human cultivation factors. The total IVI of horticultural crops is lower than that of weeds.

Abstract

Gladiolus hybridus Hort. is one of the cut flower commodities that is much demanded by peope since they have a variety of colors. The freshness of the flower that has been separated from the old parent plants will be decreased. Coconut water contains mineral, sugar, vitamin, and fitohormon that can keep its freshness. Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) is a disinfectant that can inhibit the growth of microorganisms. This research aims to find out the level of the cut flower's freshness that was soaked in the green coconut water and sodium hypochlorite with a different concentration. This research uses Complete Random Design (CRD) with 4x2 factorial. The first factor is the concentration of the green coconut water: 20%, 40%, and 60%. The second factor is the concentration of sodium hypochlorite: 0% and 5%. Each treatment with 3 repetitions. Data is analyzed with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) proceed with DMRT test at a test level significance of 5%. The results showed that there was an interaction between the mixture of coconut water and sodium hypochlorite on the freshness of the cut Gladiolus flower, the interaction between coconut water 40% and sodium hypochlorite 5% gave optimal results on the freshness of cut flowers. Gladiolus was shown by the results of 4.7 days freshness of freshness, the percentage of the flowering of 10.22%, and the percentage of flower loss of 5.88%.

Abstract

Red spinach is (Alternanthera amoena Voss.) a vegetable that contains vitamins (vitamin A, C, and E) and minerals.Yield optimization red amaranth cultivation can be done with additional supplementary fertilizer like fertilizer leaves Gandasil D. The purpose of this study are to examine the effect of Gandasil D fertilizer on vegetative growth of plants and determine the optimal concentration of Gandasil D fertilizer on the chlorophyll and carotenoid content of the leaves. The experiment was carried out by germinating red spinach seeds, transferring 14 -days-old seedlings into pots containing planting media and basic fertilizers.  Seedlings at 14-days-old were then given Gandasil D fertilizer by spraying on the surface of the leaves once a week until the age 32–days-old. The study was conducted with a CRD with a single factor with 4 treatments of Gandasil D concentration, namely 0g/L (control), 1g/L, 2g/L, and 3g/L with 5 replications.  Parameters observed that the number of leaves, plant height, root length, wet weight, dry weight, chlorophyll, and carotenoid content.  Data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by Duncan’ test at the 95% significance level. The results showed that the application of Gandasil D significantly affected the number of leaves, plant height, and fresh weight of the plant.  Spraying with Gandasil D did not show a significant effect on root length, plant dry weight, and chlorophyll and red spinach carotenoid content.  Gandasil D fertilizer at a concentration of  3g/L produces the most optimal growth of red spinach plants.

Abstract

Consumption of meat as a source of animal protein has increased every year, especially the consumption of rooster. The increasing cost of poultry feed has made it difficult for breeders to produce roosters that have meat with high protein content. The cost of poultry feed can be minimized by the addition of herbal ingredients, one of which is the addition of leaf powder. Moringa oleifera leaf powder contains various kinds of amino acids and antioxidants that can be used as a supplement to additives feed. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of M. oleifera leaf powder on carcass weight rooster (Gallus gallus domesticus L.). Completely randomized design (CRD) used in this study consisted of 5 treatment groups with three replications, namely the control treatment group and the basal feed treatment group supplemented with Moringa leaf powder 1; 2; 3; and 4%. The feed used is the standard starter and finisher period rations formulated with Moringa leaf powder according to their respective concentrations. Parameters were measured during the seventh week when the rooster was 49 days old, which included: body weight, carcass weight, breast weight, and thigh weight. Based on the research conducted, it was found that giving Moringa leaf powder 1; 2; 3; and 4% as feed additives in rooster had no significant effect (p> 0.05) on body weight, carcass weight, breast weight, and thigh weight. Overall, the conclusion of this study is the addition of Moringa leaf powder with a concentration of 1; 2; 3; and 4% in rooster feed up to 7 weeks of age did not affect on carcass weight, breast weight, and thigh weight of rooster.
