Abstract

 Arabic grammar (nahwu), particularly the mastery of markers of fi‘il māḍī and fi‘il amr, is essential for understanding classical Islamic texts but often poses challenges for pesantren students. The abstract nature of these markers and reliance on rote memorization lead to low comprehension and retention. To overcome this, innovative strategies are needed. One such approach is the finger-joint method, a kinesthetic mnemonic technique using finger joints as visual aids to strengthen memory and facilitate learning. This study investigates the effectiveness of the finger-joint method in improving students’ mastery of fi‘il māḍī and fi‘il amr at Pondok Pesantren Tahfizh Al-Qur’an Daarul Ihsan (DIIBS) Barito Kuala. Employing a quantitative design with a one-group pretest–posttest model, the research involved 18 Group 1 students as participants. Data were gathered through tests, observation, and documentation. The test instrument consisted of 20 validated multiple-choice items, while data analysis utilized descriptive statistics and the Paired Sample T-Test via SPSS version 25. The findings showed a significant improvement in learning outcomes. The mean pretest score of 32.78 increased to 56.39 in the posttest. Hypothesis testing yielded a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, leading to rejection of H₀ and acceptance of Hₐ. This confirms the significant effectiveness of the finger-joint method in enhancing mastery of fi‘il māḍī and fi‘il amr. In conclusion, the finger-joint method is effective and practical for nahwu instruction in pesantren. Besides boosting academic achievement, it creates an engaging learning experience, supporting deeper comprehension of Arabic grammar.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of the Al-Fahmu book in developing grammatical thinking (tafkir nahwi) among Arabic language students at Ma’had Al-Kautsar. Arabic grammar (nahwu) plays a vital role in understanding the Qur’an and mastering the Arabic language; however, many students still perceive it as a difficult subject that depends heavily on memorization. The Al-Fahmu book addresses these challenges by presenting grammatical concepts in clear and logical Indonesian explanations, enabling students to understand the rules through reasoning rather than rote learning. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study analyzes the structure, presentation, and educational values of Al-Fahmu as a learning resource for Arabic grammar. The results show that the book effectively enhances students’ grammatical understanding, stimulates logical reasoning, and fosters a more reflective attitude toward language learning. It is recommended that Arabic teachers integrate Al-Fahmu into grammar instruction as a supplementary material to promote conceptual comprehension and analytical thinking.

Abstract

Learning Arabic writing skills (kitabah) often faces obstacles. These include low motivation and learners' visual accuracy in complex letter structures. This study aims to theoretically examine how interactive digital media grounded in calligraphy can modernize kitabah learning within the digital education landscape. The research method is library research. It analyzes 15 core journals and supporting literature published between 2021 and 2025. The analysis uses the Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. This framework examines the synergy among digital technology, pedagogical strategies, and calligraphic content. The results indicate that calligraphy-based interactive digital media can transform kitabah learning. It enables real-time feedback, stroke-order simulation, and fine-motor strengthening. These provide a more precise experience than conventional methods. The theoretical implications emphasize that effective kitabah learning in the digital era needs balanced technology integration. This must occur without reducing the established aesthetic rules of khath. This study offers a strategic roadmap for educators to adopt TPACK-based innovations in Arabic language classrooms.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the communicative approach in Arabic language learning at the Language Development Institute (LPBA) of Pondok Pesantren Darul Lughah wal Karomah. It employs a descriptive qualitative design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The trustworthiness of the findings was established through triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that the communicative approach is applied through dialogue, group discussion, presentations, and daily language practice that integrates the four language skills. This approach contributes positively to students’ confidence and fluency in speaking. Nevertheless, grammatical accuracy and the consistency of the language environment remain key challenges. The study concludes that the communicative approach is effective in improving students’ speaking skills, although further improvement is needed in the evaluation system and in strengthening the language environment. These findings suggest the importance of structured communicative assessment and the consistent development of bi’ah lughawiyah within the institutional learning context.

Abstract

This study focuses on identifying the forms of code-switching and analyzing the factors that influence it in the YouTube vlog content of Abdurrahman Hafnizar entitled “Suasana Kelas Universitas Islam Madinah 2023.” Employing a sociolinguistic approach and a descriptive qualitative method, this research examines language use in social and digital contexts. The research data includes all spoken utterances containing Indonesian-Arabic code-switching, collected through participant observation and recording techniques from a vlog video with a duration of 10 minutes and 17 seconds. Data analysis was conducted intralingually to classify code-switching forms based on linguistic structure, and extralingually to examine the underlying social factors. The findings reveal that code-switching appears in various forms, namely the insertion of words, phrases, baster, and clauses. Among all these forms, word and phrase insertions dominate, indicating that code-switching most frequently occurs at the lexical level in spontaneous communication. The main driving factors for code-switching include the use of more familiar and efficient terms, the speaker's personal background and language habits, and the influence of interlocutors. This underscores the role of social identity and interaction in bilingual communities. Functionally, code-switching serves as a communication strategy to reinforce the speaker's academic and religious identity in digital media. This study contributes to digital sociolinguistics by integrating Suwito's classification of code-mixing forms with Suandi's framework of factors. However, this research is limited to a single vlog data source, and it is suggested that future studies explore broader data sources and more diverse analytical approaches.

Abstract

This study examines the use of tasybīh (simile) in Shahih al-Bukhārī as a rhetorical strategy to bridge abstract concepts of faith, deeds, and social values with tangible sensory experience. The method is a qualitative library research approach used to analyze the structural elements of tasybīh and tehir classifications. The findings reveal that Mufrad emphasizes singular traits such as solidarity and steadfastness, while tamṡīl presents complex situations such as spiritual hierarchy or the influence of companionship. These tasybīh serve the rhetorical function of affirmation, visualization, moral classification, and social warning. Beyond aesthetics, tasybīh in Shahih al-Bukhārī operates pedagogically by teaching moral distinctions through analogies, psychologically by evoking hope and fear through sensory imagery, socially by reinforcing solidarity and caution in relationships, and cosmically by connecting faith to symbols of light. Tasybīh in Shahih al-Bukhārī unites clarity of structure, stylistic variety, depth of meaning, and rhetorical power, transforming Islamic teaching into memorable and actionable guidance for life.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an artificial intelligence–based Arabic language learning medium suitable for fifth-grade elementary school students. The research employed a research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, comprising the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The development process focused on using artificial intelligence to produce learning content by integrating Canva AI, Whisk, and Suno to create a web-based learning platform with visual, auditory, and interactive features. A limited trial was conducted with 18 fifth-grade students at SDIT Al-Insan Pinrang. Data were collected using validation sheets completed by material and media experts, as well as response questionnaires administered to students and teachers to assess the practicality of the developed media. The results indicated that the learning medium achieved a very high level of validity, with a score of 92% from the material expert and 88% from the media expert. Furthermore, the practicality test showed that the medium was categorized as very practical, with scores of 83% from students and 90% from teachers. These findings suggest that the developed media is feasible and practical for use as a supporting medium in Arabic language learning at the elementary school level. The novelty of this study lies in the use of artificial intelligence to produce Arabic learning content that integrates visual, auditory, and interactive elements within a single web-based platform, offering an innovative alternative for Arabic language learning in basic education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between Amtsilati instruction and students’ understanding of Arabic grammar at MA Ma’arif NU Kencong. The phenomenon of students’ limited ability to apply Arabic grammatical rules to authentic texts is the primary rationale for this study. This study employs a quantitative, correlational design. Data were collected via a questionnaire distributed to students who had participated in the Amtsilati program, with rigorous validity and reliability testing. Given the non-normal distribution of the data, statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The main results of the study indicate a significant positive relationship between Amtsilati learning and students’ understanding of Arabic grammar, with a correlation coefficient of 0.606 and a significance level of 0.001. The main conclusion of this study is that the Amtsilati method, which is systematic, practical, and pattern-based, has been empirically proven to have a strong association with improving students’ linguistic competence. This finding confirms that practical methods can be an effective solution to the challenges of teaching Arabic grammar at the Madrasah Aliyah level.

Abstract

Mother tongue interference remains a challenge in Arabic language learning at SMA PPM Rahmatul Asri, despite the pesantren environment that encourages active use of Arabic. Such interference appears in phonological, morphological, and syntactic aspects in both spoken and written Arabic, as well as in maharah al-qira’ah in the form of mispronunciation, inaccurate vowel length, and inappropriate pauses that affect meaning. This study employed a quantitative correlational design. The population consisted of 150 students, with 60 respondents selected using the Slovin formula and purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, Arabic grammar tests, and reading performance assessments, and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results show that mother tongue interference was predominantly at a moderate level (78.3%), while low and high levels accounted for 11.7% and 10%, respectively. Grammar mastery was also dominated by the moderate category (65%), followed by low (21.7%) and high (13.3%) categories. Meanwhile, maharah al-qira’ah was mostly at a moderate level (48.3%), with 33.3% of students in the high category and 18.3% in the low category. Simple linear regression analysis revealed that mother tongue interference had no significant effect on grammar mastery (Sig. = 0.598 > 0.05) or on maharah al-qira’ah (Sig. = 0.966 > 0.05); therefore, the alternative hypothesis was rejected, and mother tongue interference is understood as a natural linguistic phenomenon in a bilingual context.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the semiotic construction and deconstruction of the Monster's main mission in Ahmed Saadawi's novel Frankenstein in Baghdad. Amid the legal vacuum in post-2003 Iraq, the Monster emerges as a justice-seeker, presenting a complex teleological paradox. This research employs a descriptive-analytical qualitative method. Robert Stanton's Structuralism is used to map the character's narrative function, while Roland Barthes' Semiotics is applied to dissect the meaning-making process at the denotative, connotative, and mythical levels. The findings reveal that the Monster's mission undergoes a radical semantic distortion. Initially, it is constructed into a "Savior Myth" as a restorative justice agent, driven by the collective trauma of the society. However, the biological reality of its decaying body deconstructs this sacred mission, forcing the Monster to kill innocent civilians merely to survive. This demythologization process is accelerated by the Sophist's nihilistic rationalization. In discussion, this ideological collapse shifts the savior myth into a "Dystopian Myth" where extreme violence is normalized as a survival mechanism. Ultimately, the Monster's failure to uphold its mission serves as a dark allegory for the failure of the Iraqi national project, which remains trapped in an endless cycle of violence.
