Abstract

This research aimed on the responses from almuni of the UNS Faculty of Humanities to Indonesian poetry in Anggun C Sasmi's international song A Rose in The Wind. The agreement that used in this study is the synchronous acceptance of literary work. The researcher chosed and interviewed 5 respondents from alumni of UNS Faculty of Humanities. The result of interview resulting a data that used as material of research. The researcher found similarities and responses on the poetry tittle. There also different reason, which are some interpretation of the responded that related to feelings of regret, apologies, and nationalism. One interesting thing in this research is the shift in the meaning of natinoalism towards Indonesia. As it related to nationalism, it is not only given by the "indonesian citizen" but, it also given by "foreigner" through a love to Bahasa.

Abstract

Aesthetic research on Pekalongan batik is rare and limited. Several studies related to Pekalongan batik are studied from the economic aspect (production, distribution, and consumption) and health (disease). This study aims to reveal the aesthetics of motif batik "bintang laut" Pekalongan Central Java. The research approach used is aesthetics that include, unity, dominance and balance. This research is a literature study. The method used is descriptive analytics. The source of this research data is batik motif in Pekalongan. The selected and taken sample is one of the batik motifs in Pekalongan, "bintang laut". The results show batik motif "bintang laut" has a beauty and contains three esthetic elements. Miniature marine fauna and balanced color combinations and the size of different “bintang laut”, adding to the aesthetic impression and originality of batik that the way of making it still using the hand (manual).

Abstract

Language events that often occur in daily interactions are the mixing of a code/ element of language into the code/element of another language. These linguistic events in sociolinguistics are known as mixed codes. Based on the language of the source, the mixed code in the Suara Merdeka daily news discourse can be divided into two types, namely the cognate mixed code and the noncognate mixed code. In this paper, only the noncognate mixed code. In the noncognate mixed code, between the source language and the target language have no relationship, both geographically and genetically. So, geographically these languages are used as an introduction to different political areas. Likewise seen from their kinship relations, the languages involved in interfering with the code are not related. The form of noncognate mixed code contained in Suara Merdeka's daily regional news discourse can be in the form of words, phrases, forms of baster, idioms, and clauses.

Abstract

Letter writing is a means of communication used to convey information from one party to another party. In writing a letter of invitation made by the student organization at the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University speaking there are errors. Language errors can be classified in terms of spelling mistakes and grammatica lerrors from the corner. From the point of spelling mistakes, such as errors in writing on the letter head, dated letters, numbers, attachment, respect, and the contents of the letter. Errors of grammar corner there are two, namely the use of pronouns in the paragraph cover letter and there are still fragmentary sentences.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive study related to communication activities at the Confucian religious wedding ceremony in Jambi. The focus of this research is on communicative activities including situations, events, and actions of communication in wedding ceremonies with Ethnographic Communication studies. Data were obtained from observations, interviews, and supported by literature. The results of the analysis data show that during the Confucian ceremony there was a communicative situation which was conducive, sacred, familiar, and joyful. The process of marriage is sequentially described by communicative events from the beginning to the end of the procession. Communicative actions are characterized by verbal, non-verbal communication, and existing symbols. The three elements of the research results describe the communication activities which took place on the Confucian wedding ceremony. In addition, communication activities which occur have a close relationship with the concept of Confucian beliefs and teachings.

Abstract

Participants in a conversation follow certain basic rules in obtaining turns. Some questions addressed in this paper are, firstly, how turns are allocated in Indonesian conversation. Secondly, what  are the signals given by a current speaker willing to yield to a next speaker (i.e. turn-yielding signals). Thirdly, what repair mechanism is  employed by the participants when the turn-taking procedures are broken. The data used in this study were taken from an informal conversation of four Indonesians from Jakarta. The data were collected by using a non-participatory observation with a recording technique. The analysis shows that the turn-taking system in the Indonesian language confirms the model of turn-taking system developed by Sacks et al (1974), covering the occurrence and the recurrence of speaker change, the overwhelming tendency for one party to talk at a time,the common occurrences of more than one speaker at a time, and the common switches of speakers with no gapsand no overlaps.

Abstract

AbstractSome literary experts say that literary works are cultural objects and production is an industrial process. When literature enters the territory of production then the laws imposed upon itself are industrial law. That is why when talking about the production of literary works means dealing with laws (read: systems, mechanisms, and strategies) imposed by the institution of manufacture, i.e. publishers. Whereas in industrial business competition, every producing institution besides applying the conventional laws of industry, also develops distinctive internal laws to maintain the competitive power of its institution against the strength of other producing institutions.The modern publisher as a book-producing institution must creatively develop its industrial laws in order to compete with other similar publishers. Starting from the above references in chicklit and teenlit novel Indonesia's production article will discuss chicklit and teenlit novel production mechanism and mechanism covering three publishers, namely Elex Media Komputindo, GagasMedia, and Gramedia Pustaka Utama. The system and production mechanism in question includes the acquisition of the manuscript. Acquisition of manuscripts includes hunting and auction of manuscripts. IntisariBeberapa ahli sastra mengatakan bahwa karya sastra adalah obyek budaya dan produksi adalah proses industri. Ketika sastra memasuki wilayah produksi maka hukum yang dikenakan pada dirinya sendiri adalah hukum industri. Itulah mengapa ketika berbicara tentang produksi karya sastra berarti berurusan dengan hukum (baca: sistem, mekanisme, dan strategi) yang dikenakan oleh institusi manufaktur, yaitu penerbit. Sedangkan dalam persaingan bisnis industri, setiap lembaga produksi selain menerapkan hukum industri konvensional, juga mengembangkan undang-undang internal yang khas untuk mempertahankan daya saing lembaga mereka terhadap kekuatan lembaga produksi lainnya. Penerbit modern sebagai lembaga pembuat buku harus secara kreatif mengembangkan undang-undang industrinya agar dapat bersaing dengan penerbit lain yang serupa. Dari referensi di atas dalam novel chicklit dan teenlit, artikel ini akan membahas mekanisme dan mekanisme produksi novel chicklit dan teenlit yang meliputi tiga penerbit, yaitu Elex Media Komputindo, GagasMedia, dan Gramedia Pustaka Utama. Sistem dan mekanisme produksi yang dimaksud termasuk akuisisi naskah. Akuisisi manuskrip termasuk berburu dan melelang manuskrip.

Abstract

This article was written based on the results of research conducted in Jepara entitled Use of Formal and Informal English Basaha by Carving Entrepreneurs in Jepara. The purpose of this study was to describe the use of formal English (written) and informal (verbal) by carving entrepreneurs in Jepara. Data collection was carried out in three ways, namely secondary data, questionnaires, and interviews. Questionnaires were given to respondents consisting of large entrepreneurs, medium-sized entrepreneurs, and small-scale entrepreneurs. The results of the study illustrate that the level of use of formal English is mostly done by large entrepreneurs. The use of informal English from the three groups of different intensity categories is caused by contact with different buyers.

Abstract

As information and communication technology grows wider and more influential in shaping the training of translators recently, the needs to reformulate translator’s competences are also increasing. By combining some necessary traits and characteristics of good translators coming from the field of linguistics with critical pedagogy fostered in Academic Writing course, the author will argue that translation teaching within the framework of Academic Writing class, yields creativity and more promises on the spirit of keeping humanization alive which is at the same time challenged by the ascent notion of machine translation. The growing dependence on using google translate, for most of the students observed in this case study, highlights the importance to embrace both familiarity with the logic and limitation of MT as well as rootedness within the discourse which empowers human autonomy, thus didactic translation. In this respect, the lecturer plays dual role in becoming role-model for students in translation as well as critical evaluator for their imperfect results of translating text on plagiarism seen from the linguistic phenomenon.

Abstract

Poetry is not only seen from the structure. More than that, poetry is one of the means to convey messages to the public. This study examines the meaning of religiosity of the poems collection of Rekah Lembah by Mudji Sutrisno. The poems in the book have religious themes or are related to divinity and faith. Therefore, research is carried out with a review of themes to determine aspects of religiosity. The method used is descriptive qualitative method. So that finally an interpretation can be found that will produce interpretations in understanding the religious meaning as a whole.The meaning of religiosity contained in the collection of Rekah Lembah poetry by Mudji Sutrisno is: (1) religiosity between humans and God; (2) religiosity among fellow humans; and (4) human religiosity with him.
