Abstract

The problem in this study was the low interest in learning students to learn mathematics in students of class XI IPA MAN 1 Medan. This is evident from observations and interviews that researchers did. The results show a lack of understanding of students in learning mathematics so that more innovative teacher efforts and strategies are needed. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the ability of mathematical understanding of students of class XI MIA-2 MAN 1 Medan after the implementation of the Course Review Horay type of cooperative learning model. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research and quantitative descriptive research, with a case study approach. The research subjects were XI MIA-2 MAN 1 Medan field class high, medium and low ability categories.

Abstract

The ability of representation and mathematical reasoning is a mathematical ability that must be developed at every level of education. In addition to these cognitive aspects, affective aspects must also be developed in learning. One of which is the student's self concept. To find out the development of mathematical representation and reasoning abilities, as well as students' self concept, an evaluation tool is needed. This is the reason of the authors doing this research to produce reliable and accountable evaluation tools. The step of the research is compiling the grid, compiling the items test questions the ability of representation and mathematical reasoning as well as compiling the points of the statement of the scale of the self concept, validating with experts, conducting trials, scoring, and analyzing the characteristics of items. The results obtained are a reliable evaluation tool to measure the ability of representation and mathematical reasoning as well as the self concept of elementary students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in combinatorics problem solving abilities of students after the problem based learning model has been applied. This research was conducted in two cycles. From the results of the initial test obtained a percentage of classical completeness of students' combinatorics problem solving ability of 0% with an average value of 1,24; in the first cycle it increased to 80% with an average of 2,80; and in cycle II it increased to 86,67% with an average of 2,86. Improved student test results are also seen in each combinatorics model. In the distribution model, the average value of students in the cycle I is 3,01 and in the cycle II increases to 3,06. In the partition model, the average value of students in the cycle I is 2,70 and in the cycle II increases to 2,81. In the selection model, the average value of students in the cycle I is 2.68 and in the cycle II increases to 2,70. The management of learning carried out by the teacher in the cycle I was included in the good category, in the cycle II it increased very well. From the results of these studies it can be concluded that the problem based learning model can improve students' combinatorics problem solving abilities.

Abstract

The purposes of the research were to determine: (1) the difference of improvement of students’ mathematical creative thingking ability (2) the difference of improvement of students’ self regulated learning, taught by open-ended based brain-gym and expository learning, (3) the interaction between learning method and students’ gender toward mathematics in increasing student’s mathematical creative thingking ability, and (4) the process of students’ answer in each learning. This research was quasi experimental research. The population of the research was all of the students at 7thgrade of Ar-Rahman Junior High School. The sample taken randomly, such as 7th-A (experiment class) and 7th-B (control class). The instruments of research were: (1) mathematical creative thinking ability test, and (2) self regulated learning scale. The result of trials to test mathematical creative thinking test are derived validity row by 0,640; 0,698; 0,709; 0,721; and 0,605 with a reliability test by 0,692. Data analysis was done using ANACOVA and ANAVA two ways formula. The results showed that (1) the improvement of mathematical creative thinking ability and self regulated learning students who received open-ended based brain-gym higher than students who received expository learning. (2) therewas no interaction between learning method and students’ gender toward mathematics in improvement student’s mathematical creative thingking ability, this is shown with significance value of 0.499 was greater than the significance level  = 0.05. (3) the process of answers of students who received open-ended learning-based brain-gym better than students who received expository. From this research, the researchers suggest to make good planning, attention to the characteristics of the students, efficient use of time, and for further research to be better explore further the others  capabilities.

Abstract

This study aims to find out 1) the ability of students to understand problems in solving story problems in SPLDV material; 2) the ability of students to plan strategies for solving story problems on SPLDV methods; 3) the ability of students to carry out the strategy to solve the story problems on SPLDV material and 4) the ability of students to prove the truth of the results and interpret the results of the solution to the initial questions in solving the story problems on SPLDV material. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The research subjects were 22 VIII-5 graders at Bandar T.A State MTs. 2017/2018. Interview respondents were 6 students and 1 math teacher. The methods in this study are observation, tests, interviews and documentation. The data used are the results of tests and interviews. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion conclusions. Checking the validity of the data used is a triangulation technique. The results of the study showed that the ability of students to understand the problem and to plan a problem solving strategy for story problems was very high. Kemempuan uses sufficient problem solving problem solving strategies while the ability to prove the truth of the results and interpret the results of the settlement to the initial questions in the less category.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the difficulties faced by students in solving story questions on set material in class VII MTs Negeri Hamparan Perak Academic Year 2017/2018. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. In collecting data, the methods used are observation, interview and documentation. In analyzing research data using data exposure, data reduction, and drawing conclusions. The questions used were as many as 4 problems of set stories. Subjects in the study of students of class VII-A State of Hamparan Perak State MTs, amounting to 20 students with selected respondents 3 students in the category of high, medium, and low story problem solving ability. The results showed that the three subjects made errors in transformation (transformation error), processing error (processing error), and error writing the final answer (encoding error). The factor causing this error is because the subject failed in turning the story problem into a mathematical model which results in the subject being wrong in the process of completion, writing the final answer and the existence of a careless factor.

Abstract

Based on preliminary study, it is known that the students of class XIPA 1 MAN 2 Banyuwangi have problems in the learning process ofmathematics. Therefore, teachers need to seek solutions. Theteacher's efforts include applying cooperative learning model ofGroup investigation type. This study aims to determine: 1) Increasedmotivation and learning activities of mathematics throughcooperative learning model type of gruop investigation on studentsclass X IPA 1 MAN 2 Banyuwangi. 2) improving mathematicslearning outcomes through cooperative learning model type of gruopinvestigation on students class X IPA 1 MAN 2 Banyuwangi. Thisresearch is a classroom action research conducted on the subject ofMathematics. Subjects in the meticulous are students of Class X IPA1 MAN 2 Banyuwangi academic year 2017/2018. The researchprocedure consists of two cycles for 4 meetings. Each cycle iscarried out with activities: Planning, Action Implementation,Observation, Evaluation, Reflection. Analytical technique that willbe used is descriptive technique. The results showed: 1) there is anincrease in motivation and learning activities of mathematicsthrough cooperative learning model type of gruop investigation instudents of class X IPA 1 MAN 2 Banyuwangi. 2) there isimprovement of mathematics learning outcomes through cooperativelearning model type of gruop investigation in students of class XIPA 1 MAN 2 Banyuwangi.

Abstract

This study aims to study the interaction of Intellectual Auditory and Repetition (AIR) learning on mathematical problem solving abilities and self-efficiency of students in Class X of SMA Negeri 1 NA IX-X Aek Batu City. The population of this study was all students of class X SMA Negeri 1 NA IX-X Aek Batu City in the 2018/2019 academic year while the sample was class X-IPA 2 which was studied by 40 students. Data collection techniques using essay tests (pretest and posttest) were used for problem solving and the questionnaire was used for self efficacy. Data were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. From these results, obtained tcount> ttable: 18.78> 1.83 and the significant value is smaller than the significant level value that is 0.002 <0.05. Therefore it is the Auditory Intellectually Repetition (AIR) learning model for students' mathematical problem solving abilities. For self efficacy, 80% results were obtained, thus positive student self efficacy towards the Auditory Intellectually Repetition (AIR) learning model. Can solve the problem of mathematical compatibility and significant student self-efficacy towards the Auditory Intellectualual learning model and the Repetition model.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identify the inprovement of student’s Self Efficacy as an impact of problem based learnin, asd to find the interaction between the instructional approach and gender with improvement of student’s Self Efficacy. This research was a quasy experiment with the sample of research was 70 students, consisted of X-IPA2 with 35 students asan experiment class and X-IPA4 with 35 students as a control class. The data which collected in this research were Self Efficacy. The instruments which used to collect the data were a test of Self Efficacy. The data were analyzed by using two way anava in the SPSS program. Based on the result of this research, it could be concluded that the improvement student’s Self Efficacy by using problem based learning better than improvemet student’s Self Efficacy by using a usuall learning. There was not an interaction between the instructional approach and gender with improvement student’s Self Efficacy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study to determine: the effect of cooperative learning type of STAD to improve problem solving ability mathematics between students who were given cooperative learning type STAD with students and who were given direct learning. The type of this research is a quasi-experimental research by taking samples from the existing population. The variable of this research consist of independent variable that is cooperative learning type STAD while the dependent variable is problem solving mathematics ability of student. This research was conducted at SMP Swasta Al-Maksum Percut Sei Tuan. This research will be conducted in the even semester of the academic year 2017/2018. The population in this study is all students  of SMP Swasta Al-Maksum Percut Sei Tuanand the sample in this study are students of grade eight by taking two classes that are VIII-4as experimental class and VII1-1as control class by random. Technique of collecting data in this research by using test. Test used is the problem solving mathematics ability test (pre test and post test). Data that have been collected then analyzed and performed hypothesis testing by using regression test. Based on the results of the analysis is obtained: there are effects of cooperative learning type STAD to improve student problem solving mathematics ability. Therefore, it is suggested that cooperative learning type STAD be used as an alternative for teachers to improve student problem solving mathematics ability.
