Abstract

Low achievement in understanding and applying Pancasila values indicates insufficiently contextual and adaptive instruction, limiting students’ critical thinking development. This study aims to analyze and examine the effectiveness of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach in improving students’ learning outcomes and critical thinking skills in Pancasila Education. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) involving 28 fifth-grade students as research subjects. The TaRL approach was implemented by adjusting learning strategies and activities based on students’ actual levels of understanding and ability. Data were collected through classroom observations, learning outcome tests, and interviews with teachers and students, using observation sheets, test instruments, and interview guidelines. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, as indicated by an increase in learning mastery from 25% in the pre-cycle to 64% in Cycle I and reaching 86% in Cycle II. These findings confirm that the TaRL approach is effective in improving learning outcomes in Pancasila Education. Implicatively, the TaRL approach has the potential to serve as an adaptive and inclusive instructional strategy to support equitable competency achievement and strengthen character education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Education in the digital era demands the availability of teaching materials that are interactive, contextual, and capable of enhancing student engagement and deep understanding. The integration of local wisdom values is a relevant approach to enrich the learning context and stimulate student creativity. However, classroom practices are still dominated by lecture methods and the use of less varied teaching materials, which do not fully support 21st-century learning needs. This study aims to analyze the needs of teachers and students regarding the development of interactive flipbooks for Natural and Social Sciences, specifically on the topic of regional superior products, as a medium to support elementary school students’ creative thinking skills. The study employed a survey method using questionnaires distributed via Google Forms to teachers and grade 5 students. Data were collected through needs-assessment questionnaires and analyzed qualitatively in a descriptive manner based on response tendencies, complemented by quantitative analysis of scores for each flipbook aspect. The results indicate that students have a very high level of need for all flipbook aspects, and teachers also report a very high need for this interactive learning medium. The study concludes that interactive, contextual digital flipbooks that support creative thinking are highly needed by both teachers and students. The findings imply the importance of developing innovative digital media that integrates local context, fosters creativity, and strengthens 21st-century learning design that adapts to technological advancements.

Abstract

The persistent low reading proficiency among primary school students remains a critical concern, particularly because early reading skills serve as the foundation for long term literacy development and academic success. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating a structured strategy evaluation model with the use of a reading wheel board to enhance early reading abilities in children aged 6–7 years. The research employed an action research design conducted across multiple cycles, involving young learners as the primary participants. Data were collected through observations, interviews, documentation, and reading tests, while qualitative data analysis was conducted using NVivo 12 to identify learning patterns and developmental changes during the intervention process. The findings indicate consistent improvements in students’ reading abilities across cycles, with the interaction between the evaluation model and instructional media demonstrating an effectiveness rate of 91.7%. Additionally, final reading test outcomes reached 92.5%, providing strong evidence of the intervention’s success. The reading wheel board proved particularly effective in increasing student engagement, supporting phoneme recognition, and creating an interactive and enjoyable learning environment. These results suggest that the integration of interactive visual media with a structured strategy evaluation model can serve as an effective and sustainable pedagogical approach for strengthening early literacy skills in primary education.

Abstract

Teaching fractions in elementary school often presents challenges, particularly when conventional instructional methods are used, as many students struggle to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. This study aims to explore students’ responses and comprehension regarding the effectiveness of fraction learning using PhET (Physics Education Technology) simulations integrated with a visual project based learning approach. The research employed a qualitative design with third-grade students as the sample. Data were collected through participatory observations, student worksheets, and daily assessments covering three learning outcomes: fraction recognition, fraction comparison, and fraction ordering. Data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively to evaluate success rates, patterns of student responses, and cognitive strategies. The results indicate a progressive improvement in learning outcomes, with success rates of 46.15% for fraction recognition, 66.66% for fraction comparison, and 70% for fraction ordering. The integration of PhET simulations with visual project-based learning effectively promoted conceptual understanding, creativity, and active student engagement, although some students still faced difficulties transitioning from visual representations to symbolic forms. These findings imply that systematic use of interactive simulations can serve as an effective instructional strategy to enhance conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and creativity in elementary mathematics education.

Abstract

The lack of student interest in mathematics results in limited mathematical problem-solving skills. This study examines the effectiveness of the. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model based on Dienes’ theory using coloured biscuit games on the mathematical problem-solving abilities of fifth-grade students in class V-A of an elementary school. The research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a one-group pretest- posttest design. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using validity and reliability tests, normality tests, paired sample t-tests, and N-Gain tests. The results show that the instruments are valid and reliable, the data are normally distributed, and there is a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p < 0.05). The average N-Gain score categorized as moderately effective. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model based on Dienes’ theory using coloured biscuit games is proven to be moderately effective in improving elementary school student’s mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

Contemporary education needs to position Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) as a central approach for strengthening the global diversity dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile, particularly through the integration of local cultural arts such as traditional sculpture. However, classroom practices still do not fully reflect these principles. This study aims to explore how CRT, when combined with art-based activities, can foster students’ tolerance, empathy, and appreciation for diverse cultural perspectives. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a case-study design involving a group of early-grade elementary students. Data were gathered through participatory observations, in-depth interviews, student reflective journals, and documentation of their artwork. The analysis process followed the stages proposed by Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and verification of emerging findings. The results indicate that most students were actively engaged throughout the learning process, developed a deeper understanding of cultural diversity, and demonstrated more inclusive collaborative behaviors. The use of traditional sculpture as a learning medium supported students in connecting local cultural values with universal principles such as respect, empathy, and cooperation. The study concludes that implementing CRT through culturally meaningful art activities is effective in enhancing students’ awareness of global diversity. These findings highlight the importance of integrating local cultural arts as a pedagogical strategy to strengthen students’ character formation and global competencies.

Abstract

Most students consider Pancasila education to be a complex and difficult subject, resulting in low scores. Challenges that arise can be overcome through the use of innovative learning models. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of learning models and critical thinking skills on student learning outcomes in Pancasila education learning. This type of research is an experiment with a 2 x 2 treatment by level design. Using a multistage random sampling technique, 60 students were randomly chosen to make up the research sample. Instruments were used to gather data for this investigation. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for the statistical analysis, and the significance threshold was set at 0.05. The findings of the study showed that the learning outcomes of students taught with the discovery learning model were higher than those of students taught with the project-based learning model in the group of students with high critical thinking skills. Conversely, students with low critical thinking skills who were taught with the discovery learning model and the project-based learning model did not show significant differences in learning outcomes in Pancasila education learning. These findings indicate that the discovery learning and project-based learning models have a significant influence on improving student learning outcomes in Pancasila education learning, both for students with high critical thinking skills and students with low critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Storytelling skills are a crucial aspect of Indonesian language learning, as they help students organize ideas, enrich vocabulary, and build confidence in oral communication. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of integrating Bola Dansa media (puppets made from banana leaves) with the Tri-N approach in developing storytelling abilities of elementary school students. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with elementary school students as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate an improvement in students’ storytelling skills, demonstrated by a 50.00% increase in story structure, 55.00% improvement in fluency, 45.00% enhancement in expression and intonation, and 45.00% improvement in communicative and context-appropriate language use. The Tri-N approach, through the stages of Niteni (observing), Niroake (imitating), and Nambahi (developing), effectively enhanced students’ creativity, courage, and ability to construct stories. Therefore, the integration of Bola Dansa media and the Tri-N approach is effective in developing students’ storytelling skills comprehensively, suggesting that creative media-based and reflective-stage strategies can serve as innovative alternatives in Indonesian language learning at the elementary level.
