Abstract

This study aims to measure the validity of the Smart Decision Game media as a learning tool for decision-making within the context of swimming sports training. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) employing the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, development, limited implementation, and evaluation. Validation was conducted through structured interviews with swimming coaches and athletes to qualitatively assess the content feasibility, visual appearance, and functionality of the media. The results indicate that the Smart Decision Game media received very feasible ratings in terms of content, visualization, and relevance to the learning context. The content experts (swimming coaches) rated the validity with an average score of 3.87, while the media validity obtained an average score of 3.90, both falling into the very valid category. These findings suggest that the media has strong potential to be used as a decision-making learning aid aligned with the needs of the sports world, particularly in shaping strategic and responsive thinking patterns in athletes. This study provides an initial contribution to the development of contextual game-based educational media and encourages further research to test its practicality and effectiveness on a larger scale.

Abstract

The critical thinking and social attitudes of elementary school students in Civic Education (CE) learning remain relatively low, indicating the need for an instructional approach that can simultaneously enhance both aspects. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Value Clarification Techniques (VCT)-based Civic Education learning model on critical thinking skills and social attitudes of fifth-grade elementary school students. The research used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent posttest-only control group design. The sample consisted of 61 students from two elementary schools in Buleleng Regency, selected using cluster random sampling of the intact group type, with 31 students in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. The instruments included a critical thinking test and a social attitude questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, assumption testing, and MANOVA. The results showed a significant effect of the VCT model on critical thinking (F = 15.72; p < 0.001) and social attitude (F = 11.64; p = 0.001). The experimental group's mean critical thinking score was 81.45, compared to 72.30 for the control group. Similarly, the mean social attitude score of the experimental group was 84.10, higher than the control group's 76.80. These findings indicate that the VCT model is effective in simultaneously fostering students' cognitive and affective development in Civic Education learning.

Abstract

Instilling tolerance through learning about cultural diversity remains a challenge due to its abstract nature for students, so technology-based learning media that can attract their attention and increase their engagement is needed. This study aims to develop and test the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of digital flipbook learning media containing cultural diversity in improving students' understanding and tolerance. This research is a research and development (R&D) study using the ADDIE model. The research subjects include 186 students and 7 fourth-grade elementary school teachers. Data were collected through interviews, observations, needs assessments, product validation, response questionnaires, comprehension tests, and tolerance character scales. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative methods and through paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-tests, and MANOVA. Validation results indicated that the media is highly suitable for use (subject matter experts = 85.2%; media experts = 95%). The media was deemed practical based on student and educator responses, with the highest score reaching the “very practical” category. Effectiveness tests showed significant differences in comprehension scores and tolerance character before and after using the digital flipbook (p < 0.005). MANOVA tests also indicated significant differences between the experimental and control groups simultaneously. Thus, the culturally-infused digital flipbook was proven effective in enhancing comprehension and fostering tolerance character, and is suitable for use as an innovative learning medium in elementary schools.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills among elementary school students remain suboptimal. One contributing factor is the continued use of conventional teaching methods, which tend to focus more on delivering information than engaging students in analytical and evaluative thinking processes. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Student Question Have method assisted by scrapbook media on students' critical thinking skills in learning Islamic cultural history. The scrapbook media was designed attractively, containing summarized learning materials to enhance student engagement and comprehension. A quantitative approach with a one-group pre-test post-test experimental design was used. The research subjects were third-grade elementary school students. Instruments included a validated critical thinking test and a learning module reviewed by instructional experts. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and critical thinking pre-test and post-test items. Data analysis employed the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The findings indicated a significant effect of the Student Question Have method supported by scrapbook media on students' critical thinking skills, with a Z score of -2.402 and a significance level of 0.000. These results suggest that incorporating oral and written questioning strategies effectively fosters students’ critical thinking development. The implication of this study highlights the importance of implementing innovative methods and media to enhance the quality of students’ cognitive processes in elementary education.

Abstract

The low levels of critical reasoning and creativity among primary school students remain a significant challenge in strengthening the Pancasila student profile. The absence of culturally-based learning models that effectively enhance these competencies also hinders the implementation of meaningful education. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project based on Tri Nga (Ngerti, Ngrasa, Nglakoni) integrated with Tri N (Niteni, Nirokke, Nambahi) through the My Book program, and to evaluate its contribution to improving students' critical reasoning and creative dimensions. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method involving 33 students and 2 teachers. Data were collected through observation, attitude observation rubrics, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that the project implementation enhanced students' ability to formulate questions by 36.36%, express opinions by 54.54%, and reflect by 54.54% in the critical reasoning dimension. Meanwhile, the creativity dimension improved by 34.85%, particularly in students’ ability to innovate, develop ideas, and articulate their thoughts to others. In conclusion, the My Book program based on Tri Nga and Tri N effectively develops primary school students' critical reasoning and creativity. This implies the potential of culturally-based programs as alternative models for character education in primary schools.

Abstract

Reading skills are fundamental competencies for elementary school students, yet early grade students often face difficulties due to the lack of engaging learning media appropriate to their developmental characteristics. Learning activities will be more meaningful if supported by media that can motivate students, especially those aged 7–8 years, who are still dominated by a strong sense of play. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of syllable card media in improving the reading readiness of elementary school students. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. The study involved 14 first-grade students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The syllable card media consisted of cards containing syllables that could be combined to form new words, encouraging active student participation in reading activities. The results indicate that the use of syllable card media significantly improves students’ reading readiness, particularly in recognizing syllables, forming words, and increasing reading motivation. The implications suggest that syllable card media can serve as an effective alternative learning medium to foster reading readiness among early-grade elementary students.

Abstract

The low level of students' verbal communication skills affects their ability to interact socially in the community and to understand learning materials that require active engagement with the teacher. As a result, students often express frustration when encountering materials or questions containing difficult vocabulary. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Theater-Based Role Playing learning model on the verbal communication skills in Indonesian language of second-grade elementary school students. This research employed a quasi-experimental design, specifically the Non-Equivalent Pre-test Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population consisted of all second-grade students from 8 elementary schools, totaling 102 students. The sampling technique used was cluster sampling, with classes randomly assigned as intact groups, comprising 26 students in the experimental group and 24 students in the control group. Data on students' verbal communication skills in Indonesian were collected using a non-test method through a teacher observation performance checklist consisting of 24 items. The data were analyzed using a t-test, yielding tcount = 11.49 and ttable = 2.01. Since tcount (11.49) > ttable (2.01), H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Theater-Based Role Playing learning model has a significant effect on the verbal communication skills of second-grade students.

Abstract

The writing skills of third-grade elementary school students are still low. This is due to the use of conventional teaching methods and the lack of digital media in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of serial image media based on the Picture and Picture model in improving the writing skills of third-grade students. The study employed the ADDIE development model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The methods and instruments used for data collection included interviews, observations, questionnaires, and essay tests. The research subjects consisted of 11 third-grade students. The data analysis techniques used were qualitative, quantitative, and inferential descriptions. The results of the dependent sample t-test showed a tcount value of 4.86, while the ttable value at a 5% significance level with degrees of freedom (11 – 1) = 10 was 1.795. These results indicate that tcount (4.86) > ttable (1.795), thus H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the serial image media based on the Picture and Picture model is effective in improving the writing skills of third-grade students and is suitable for use in learning narrative text material in the Indonesian language subject. The implication of this study is that the serial image media encourages students to be more active in discussing, composing stories, and developing their understanding both independently and in groups.
