Abstract

Libraries are institutions that provide information services to support educational, research, and recreational needs within society. Along with the development of information technology, libraries need to implement automation systems to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of library services. One of the most widely used library automation systems is Senayan Library Management System (SLiMS). This study aims to identify the factors that encouraged the Library of SMK Negeri 1 Singaraja to adopt SLiMS and to examine the benefits and challenges encountered during its implementation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the implementation of SLiMS was motivated by the completeness of its features and support from the school administration. The use of SLiMS assists librarians in collection management, circulation services, information retrieval, and library report preparation more effectively and efficiently than manual systems. In addition, the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) feature has the potential to facilitate users in searching for library collections. However, several challenges were identified, including limited human resources, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and the ongoing adaptation process to the newly implemented system. Therefore, continuous evaluation and system development are necessary to optimize the utilization of SLiMS in supporting school library services.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of digital collections at the Faculty of Medicine Library, Ganesha University of Education, including the development process, user utilization, obstacles encountered, and solutions implemented to overcome these obstacles. The study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and document studies. Research informants were determined using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. The data obtained were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that digital collection development is carried out as a solution to the limitations of printed collections. Digital collections are developed through the utilization of digital documents obtained from donations, then processed into collections that can be accessed publicly. The existence of digital collections provides benefits for users because it facilitates access to information, speeds up the collection search process, and supports learning and research activities. Obstacles faced include budget limitations, inadequate technological devices, and limited collections relevant to the field of excellence. To overcome these obstacles, librarians coordinate with faculty leaders and build on the development of digital collections. The results of the study indicate that collaboration and institutional support are important factors in the success of digital collection development in higher education libraries.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are: (1) to identify the efforts made by the museum to maximize its role as a center for cultural conservation and preservation, (2) to describe the conservation and preservation activities carried out by the Buleleng Museum, (3) to describe the challenges faced by the Buleleng Museum, and to propose recommendations for improvement. This study employed a qualitative descriptive research method, with informants selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. The author selected the research location at the Buleleng Museum. In this study, the researcher employed observation, interviews, and document analysis to collect concrete data. The findings indicate that the Buleleng Museum has undertaken several initiatives to support its cultural conservation and preservation functions, such as public outreach, collection inventory, and routine maintenance of museum collections. Conservation activities are carried out by protecting the collections from damage and limiting direct visitor interaction with the collections, while preservation is carried out through routine maintenance and periodic cleaning of the collections. However, conservation and preservation efforts have not yet been fully implemented due to various obstacles, particularly limited human resources, insufficient operational funds, a lack of supporting facilities, and the absence of specialists in the field of conservation and preservation. These conditions have prevented the museum from fully fulfilling its role in preserving the culture of Northern Bali.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of literacy activities carried out by Sukasada 2 Public Elementary School, as well as the difficulties they face when they do not have a formal school library. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, where observation, interviews, and document studies are used as data collection methods. The principal, teachers, book collection managers, and education staff are the research informants. The results show that students of Sukasada 2 Public Elementary School can still develop literacy skills through 15-minute reading activities before class starts, reading during breaks, reading together every Friday, and having a reading corner in each class. Literacy activities still face several challenges. Among them are collection management that is not yet effectively organized; limited space and supporting facilities; and a lack of human resources needed to manage literacy activities. The school utilizes reading corners, book rotation between classes, and active teacher involvement in teaching and getting students into reading habits. This study shows that by utilizing available facilities and getting active support from the school, literacy activities can be carried out without a formal school library.

Abstract

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the conservation activities carried out by the librarians at State Elementary School 1 Banjar Bali; (2) to determine the process of removing books from the shelves for conservation; and (3) to find out the constraints experienced during conservation activities at the Library of State Elementary School 1 Banjar Bali. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, and the technique for selecting informants utilizes purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The author chose the Library of State Elementary School 1 Banjar Bali as the research location. In this study, the researcher used observation, interviews, and document study techniques to collect data in order to obtain concrete information. The results of the study show that: (1) The preservation of collections at the Library of State Elementary School 1 Banjar Bali includes four main pillars, namely active conservation (daily cleaning), passive conservation (monthly checking and room temperature control at 16°C), preventive conservation (the use of camphor and insecticides), and curative conservation (repairing slightly to moderately damaged books once a month); (2) The process of removing books begins with physical selection and classification based on the level of damage (minor, moderate, and severe). Severely damaged or destroyed books are separated from the shelves to be sent to the Education Agency for the asset writeoff process; (3) The constraints faced include a limited quantity of human resources that is disproportionate to the volume of the collection, as well as environmental factors such as high room humidity due to its location near a drainage ditch, a lack of sunlight exposure, and the use of wooden shelves that are susceptible to termite attacks.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the factors contributing to the low reading interest among students and to identify strategic solutions that can be applied at SD Negeri 4 Banjar. The lack of reading interest among elementary school students has an impact on their literacy skills and academic achievement. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with students, teachers, and the school principal, as well as document analysis. The findings indicate that the main factors causing low reading interest include the limited availability of engaging reading materials, insufficient encouragement from teachers and parents, students’ lack of awareness of the importance of reading, and the excessive use of gadgets. Moreover, the school library has not been optimally utilized to support literacy activities. Recommended efforts include strengthening literacy programs such as a 15-minute reading activity before lessons, providing a wider variety of age-appropriate books, training teachers in literacy-based learning, and fostering collaboration between schools, librarians, and parents to cultivate a reading culture. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for other elementary schools in developing effective strategies to enhance students’ reading interest from an early age.

Abstract

Reading interest is a key indicator in building a strong and sustainable literacy culture. However, limited access to reading materials in rural areas remains a major challenge. This study aims to explore the strategies implemented in the LAN ELING (Mobile Library Service) program by the Department of Archives and Regional Library of Buleleng Regency to enhance public reading interest. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that the strategies applied in the LAN ELING program include a proactive outreach approach, interactive literacy activities (such as storytelling, quizzes, and group reading), collaboration with schools and village officials, and active promotion through various media. The program has proven effective in increasing reading interest, especially among children and students in rural areas. Positive impacts include the emergence of community reading corners and greater school engagement in literacy efforts. Nevertheless, the program faces several challenges, such as limited vehicle availability, outdated book collections, and low reading interest among adults. This study concludes that the LAN ELING mobile library service is an effective strategy for promoting literacy and can be replicated in other regions with cross-sector collaboration and continuous innovation.
