Abstract

The production of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) specifically mobile devices is one of the fastest growing global manufacturing activities. This development has resulted in an increase of waste electric and electronic equipment (WEEE). Rapid economic growth, coupled with urbanization and growing demand for consumer goods, has increased both the consumption of EEE and the production of WEEE, which can be a source of hazardous wastes that pose a risk to the environment and to sustainable economic growth. WEEE includes discarded electronic and electrical equipment. Managing WEEE typically is complex and requires a structured disposal method. However, the process of disposal WEEE sustainably started with a proper sorting and separating from the source, therefore the consumers are under assumption should be aware of the WEEE disposal method. The paper has found consumers are required to have higher awareness level and this awareness level is influenced by two situational factors which are engagement process and supporting facilities and consumers knowledge on the WEEE itself. Both situational and personal factors are concomitantly necessary to improve the recapturing of WEEE back into the supply chain. This phenomenon is considered symbiotic whereby both factors are equally important in order to acquire sustainability in improving the backwards movement in the logistics.

Abstract

The most common precursors used for the preparation of activated carbons are organic materials that are rich in carbon. The abundance and availability of coconut shells make them excellent sources of raw materials for activated carbon production. A survey has been conducted to identify locations for the supply of coconut shells. The survey has been conducted around a coastal village of Beserah, Kuantan. The cost calculation for two methods was considered, which is to buy from coconut supplier or to do self-collection at the coconut milk entrepreneurs location. Two carbonization methods were used in this study which is traditional drum method and Top-Lit up-Draft (TLUD) drum method. The results from the both methods were observed. The coconut shell charcoals produced were sent to activated carbon manufacturer for evaluation. The coconut shell charcoals from the different methods were priced differently. This is mainly due to different quality of the charcoals. A calculation of possible cost and sales from a small production plant was simulated to know whether a profitable production plant could be set-up. Abstract

The great influence of consumers' consumption of halal products, mainly food and beverages (FB) have raised new challenges for all manufacturing organisations, specifically the small and medium enterprises. Largely in Malaysia, FB industries are dominated by this scale of enterprises. However, in terms of the halal products manufactured are not produced by those enterprises, but made by large and multinational enterprises. Presently, there is an enormous competition among those enterprises to produce halal products on a large scale all along the supply-chain networks. On the other hand, most of them are stuck to getting halal certificates from the official authority; JAKIM. Besides that, other challenges faced by SMEs that they are deficient of leadership styles, lack of entrepreneurial orientation and inconsistent performance to grasp opportunities existing in the halal markets. Based on previous literatures, these challenges contributed a significant research gap in terms of leaderships in management practice towards the organisation performance. Therefore, this study has constructed a conceptual model based on the leadership theories in which they have a significant impact on an organisation's performance. This paper presents a proposal of a theoretical framework in order to examine the relationship of leadership styles, mainly the spirituality towards the organisation performance which moderates by Shariah based entrepreneurial orientation. All measurements applied in the study are based from the past research. However, some of them are modified suited to the studys objectives. The studys scope is within Malaysian SMEs that involved in the manufacturing of halal FB. Keywords: enterprises, food, halal, leaderships, supply chain

Abstract

Late delivery and sick housing project problems were attributed to poor decision making. These problems are the string of housing developer that prefers to create their own approach based on their experiences and expertise with the simplest approach by just applying the obtainable standards and rules in decision making. This paper seeks to identify the decision making methods for housing development at the initiation phase in Malaysia. The research involved Delphi method by using questionnaire survey which involved 50 numbers of developers as samples for the primary stage of collect data. However, only 34 developers contributed to the second stage of the information gathering process. At the last stage, only 12 developers were left for the final data collection process. Finding affirms that Malaysian developers prefer to make their investment decisions based on simple interpolation of historical data and using simple statistical or mathematical techniques in producing the required reports. It was suggested that they seemed to skip several important decision- making functions at the primary development stage. These shortcomings were mainly due to time and financial constraints and the lack of statistical or mathematical expertise among the professional and management groups in the developer organisations.

Abstract

E-Tendering systems remain uncertain on issues relating to legal and security compliance, in which unclear security framework is one of the issues. In te current situation, tendering systems are lacking in addressing integrity, confidentiality, authentication, and non-repudiation. Thus, ensuring the system requirements, consider security and trust issues has to be regarded as one of the challenges in developing an e-Tendering system. Therefore, this paper a model of a secured e-Tendering system using Unified Modeling Language (UML) approach. The modelling process begins with identifying the e-Tendering process, which is based on Australian Standard Code of Tendering (AS 4120-1994). It is followed by identifying the security threats and its countermeasure. The use case approach has been proven reliable in determining appropriate requirements for handling security issues. Having considered that, the outcome of this paper is a secured e-Tendering model. The model can guide developers as well as other researchers.
