Abstract

In todays world, technology keep on evolving at a fast pace. The revolution of technology can be witnessed since the past couple of decades. This leaded to the rapid growth of the EE industry as the dependence of human on electronic products increased rapidly over the years. In Malaysia, Electrical and Electronic industry plays a leading role in the manufacturing sector by contributing 26.94% of manufacturing output, 48.7% of export and 32.5% of employments [33]. There are approximately 1,900 companies active in this industry spread across a diverse range of sub-sectors such as consumer electronics, electronic components, industrial electronics and electrical product. The rapid expansion of EE industry and the rapid continuous innovation of state of art technology accelerated the EE product to be outdated at a short leading to significant increase in e-waste which consists of materials that are no longer usable which come from a range of electronics, from computers to household appliances to cell-phones [28]. This phenomenon is worsening many factors such as increasing population growth, increasing in purchasing power, affordability contributes to the generation of e-waste. Furthermore, in this era of advancing technologies, EE products have become a vital need in every segment of the society from a person to business entities and industry. However, the current RL in Malaysian EE is still low and not able to help in the reduction of all this e-waste. Besides the issue of e-waste, Malaysian EE is also facing a growing demand of customer in many aspects. As the development technology is always one step ahead of the EE Companys strategy, many companies should struggle to reach to all the changes appropriately. These companies should strive to balance their operation strategy, concept of product development with volatile customer demand to achieve revenue growth. RL is a logistic is an inverse of normal supply chain activity. It focuses primarily on the return or take-back products and material from the point of consumption to the forward supply chain for recycling, reuse, remanufacturer, repair, refurbishing, or safe disposal of the product and materials [66]. By adopting RL, e-waste can be dispose in a proper way or being reuse. RL can be implements in supply chain of every industry, yet this paper will focus on the EE industry.

Abstract

This paper studied the decision making problem of the closed-loop supply chain with recycling a remanufacturing based on the constraint of government.Considering the effort of the recycling part, an incentive function was designed among the government, manufacturers, and the third party; then a multi-echelon closed-loop supply chain model with remanufacturing based on the third party and manufacture recycling was established. The result suggests that the governments incentive has a positive effect on the behavior of recycling waste products, the greater the units incentive factors of the government, the higher the recycling rate, and it can be more able to motivate the manufacturer and the third partys recycling behavior.

Abstract

Supply chain management (SCM) can be considered as a key component of competitive strategy to enhance organizational productivity, performance and profitability. In this paper, designed Questionnaires are sent to 5 professional experts in different departments of ABZARSAZI COMPANY in Iran. Proposed approach is based on Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and COPRAS (Complex Proportional Assessment) methods. The major purpose of this paper is ranking the suppliers of ABZARSAZI COMPANY by using a hybrid Fuzzy AHP and COPRAS approaches. Finally, results of this research, give an evaluation method for companies in order to help managers to identify and select the best suppliers.

Abstract

With the enactment of energy reform in Mexico, some of the energy sector activities are opened to national and foreign private investment. It is expected that this new panorama generates important changes for this sector and thus produce significant positive effects on the economy, especially if national companies associated with its supply chain manage to insert in the new productive dynamic. To locate this context, this research allowed identifying, typifying and quantifying Mexican companies dedicated to carrying out economic activities associated with the shale gas core business, in order to measure each of the links in its supply chain and identify some of its main strengths and opportunities. The results show that in Mexico exist mainly micro and small enterprises engaged in the production of goods and services for this sector, supported in conventional resources, with low possibility of effective integration into the supply chain competitively in cost and quality, against international companies with experience in conducting this kind of activities.

Abstract

Abstract - Purpose of the study is to find out the role of cross-docking in FMCG sector of Pakistan. Research will be helpful to find out the benefits, risks, benefits and challenges for implementing the cross-docking in organizations. The researchers have gathered the interview from twelve supply chain managers working in the manufacturing sector of Pakistan. The study can be useful for the organizations adopting the cross-docking strategy especially in the uncertain countries. The result shows that cross-docking leads to improve the customer services and helps to achieve cost-effectiveness. It can improve the lead time tremendously but labor cost does not get reduced in cross-docking. Cross-docking may lead to increase the risk of uncertainties, chances of pilferages and damages. Abstract

This paper discussed on the major concern relating to the pharmacy department in hospitals which is facing difficulty in managing the drugs after investing in them and it is noted that by improperly taking care of the drugs, it will have an impact on the patients safety. The Rasch Measurement Model (RMM) with Winsteps Version 3.92.1 software was applied for data analysis due to its ability in interpreting and analyzing the ability of respondents in performing difficult items. Online questionnaires were distributed to selected public hospitals and out of 103 online questionnaires, 81 were returned with a response rate of 78.64%. However, only questionnaires from 80 respondents are useable. The typology standard result shows that the mean person of 3.01 and logit value of 2.02 differentiate the low competent and high competent hospitals into 51% and 49%. Easiest items (A1.4, A1.6 A1.10) and difficult items (A2.5 A2.6) have also been highlighted in the discussion. Public hospitals of S23 is the most competent while S51 is the lowest competent in implementing inventory administration. In addition, Rasch analysis points out that existing items need to be reviewed by adding more difficult items, in order to be developed further future research. Finally, this study is perhaps the first attempt in investigating the typology standard of inventory administration to be practised by public hospitals in Malaysia using RMM.

Abstract

India is a perfect place where a well developed online economy would be built. Today, home delivery is increasingly becoming a key element in e-commerce. This paper has as its basis a market survey conducted for 220 respondents based in metropolitan cities of India. It is observed that home delivery operations already face significant challenges a lot of operational issues come up. These orders are delivered through smaller and more economical carriers Difficulty of returning an item and cost of delivery are major factors for the respondents not opting for home delivery services. Unavailability of respondents at the time of delivery is another major factor. There is a high first time delivery failure which increases costs for carriers and also lowers consumer satisfaction. The return rate becomes abnormally high. Home deliveries that are damaged or faulty cause significant costs to supply chain partners. The paper concludes that home delivery is a fairly new phenomenon in India. Those e-commerce companies would probably succeed more which are localised operate on a small scale with a big margin. Highly aggressive promotional campaigns would unnecessarily swell costs and not yield enough returns so word of mouth publicity would be the safest bet. Thus new models and algorithms need to be proposed and studied.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the supply chain management practices in services industry of Bangladesh. Study revealed that there are differences in practices between manufacturing and services industry with few counts like inventory management, logistics management and use of technology etc. Within the selected sub-sectors, there are differences in the level of practices in supply chain management with banking sector is the highest whereas in hotel industry the practice is the lowest. This study also investigates the effect of supply chain responsiveness in terms of operation system responsiveness, logistic process responsiveness, supplier network responsiveness and competitive advantage of the firm. On the basis of findings, strategic supply chain management practices should be implemented in more detailed ways in services industry of Bangladesh.

Abstract

This paper discusses alternative supply chain design strategies for a global blood sugar strip manufacturing company. Two main alternatives considered are: 1) Single location manufacturing plant to meet world demand located in China; 2) three manufacturing plants located in three regions to meet world demand, China for Asian market, Ireland for European market and Puerto Rico for North American market. Manufacturing plants are designed considering layered cellular design approach under stochastic demand. This approach allows three types of cells to be formed: 1) dedicated cells for families, 2) shared cells, cells to be shared by two families, 3) remainder cells, cells to be used by three or more families. The main focus of this paper is to compare both alternatives by considering labor costs, machine investment costs and transportation costs. We will also discuss detailed operational control issues in one of the plants and discuss simulation results to validate the results obtained through layered design methodology. The results show that single manufacturing plant option is a more economical option.

Abstract

Green buildings also known as green construction or sustainable building are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a buildings life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. Today the environmental issues and the concern for sustainability is encouraging more effective and efficient usage of energy, water and material currently used, ensure the prevention of any kind of waste, perform environmentally sensible and eco-friendly building design and be environmentally friendly in the process of construction. Environmental problems and the growth of construction industry cause a new topic to manage construction waste with the help of green supply chain management (GSCM). This requires close cooperation of the design team, the architects, the engineers, and the client at all project stages. GSCM reduces energy usage and waste, so it prevents any problem that will occur in human health and environment. This paper aims to combine the architects green building operations together with the engineers green supply chain management for both reducing the usage of materials, encouraging more effective and efficient usage of energy, water and material currently used, ensure the prevention of any kind of waste, perform environmentally sensible and eco-friendly building design and to be able to reuse, recycle, or recover the waste. The European Union Council published a waste management directive in 2008 that gives some goal numbers to manage construction waste to minimize the environmental effect. The goal is to reach a reduction of 70% of construction and demolition waste (CDW) that will be reused, recycled or recovered in 2020. The aim of this paper is to explore the cost-benefit and social-benefit reflections by the combination of these two techniques, based on the literature review and case study examples from Turkey a model is built and propositions regarding Green Building operations using GSCM and reverse logistics are formulated.
