Abstract

Supplier selection is one of the Multi-Criteria Decision Making problems since it involves many suppliers with different criteria that often conflict with each other. This paper shows the integration of Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and VIKOR methods in selecting the best supplier in a selected automotive spare part manufacturing company.  FAHP is used to calculate the important weights of the evaluation criteria and the overall performance for ranking of suppliers is then determined by VIKOR. Results show that there is no supplier with the same performance value from the FAHP-VIKOR analysis as compared to normal practice in that particular company which eventually can help the decision maker to select the supplier.

Abstract

Social Media Applications (SMA) has become a common tool for networking and communication and also content sharing. As a result, firms utilize SMA for organizational purposes. Then again, Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) is a popular subject in the area of operations management for both researchers as well as practitioners. However, the influences of SMA on GSCM practices and finally on organizational performance are not well understood. SMA can expedite information flow and knowledge sharing amidst supply chains and also may assist organizations for greening their SCM practices. In this research, we empirically investigate the impact of SMA capabilities on GSCM practices. Data collected from 206 manufacturing managers were analyzed applying a structural equation modeling methodology. Results confirm that the adoption of SMA in supply chains by manufacturing firms positively affect the GSCM practices among the chain.

Abstract

The ultimate goal of any service industry is to provide quality services to its customers. Applying industry models of supply chain management in higher education institutions (HEIs), this study aims to examine the impact of various resources on expatriate academics outcomes. Internationalisation of higher education sector has created the need to recruit foreign faculty to become part of critical inputs in providing world-class education to students. In this regard, understanding the factors contribute to their effectiveness is imperative for continuous quality improvement. A survey-based quantitative research using a sample of 152 expatriate academics (EAs) employed in 20 Malaysian public universities revealed some important findings. Both the personal (cultural intelligence) and organizational resources (perceived organizational support) are found to be important determinants of EAs work engagement and psychological needs satisfaction which is important for quality service delivery. The findings of this study have made significant contribution to international human resource management practices and policy makers especially to Malaysian HEIs with regards to recruitment and retention of academic expatriates.

Abstract

This research studies the relationship between student satisfaction and student loyalty within the higher education service. More specifically, it examines the cognitive and affective aspects of students’ satisfaction, to see whether the satisfaction will lead to loyalty. From the 329 responses obtained from students in the public university in Malaysia, the study finds that the relationship between student satisfaction and student loyalty was only partially supported. For cognitive dimensions, “feedback and assessment” and “perceived benefits” of each course showed positive and significant relations to “positive word of mouth”. But, “feedback and assessment” showed negative relations to “complaining behaviour”. “Physical environment”, and “feedback and assessment” were found significant and having positive relations to the “willingness to pay more”. “Physical environment” showed negative relation to “switching behaviour”. For the affective dimensions, “negative emotions” showed negative significant relations to “positive word of mouth”. The study has shown the relationship among the variables that contribute to satisfaction and loyalty. Higher educational institutions could consider these factors as indicators or pointers which would offer as an added advantage to providing standards of service quality to satisfy students’ needs and make them become loyal students.

Abstract

Human resources are the most important resources for all types of organizations. Psychological empowerment refers to individuals beliefs in their ability to feel empowered in an organization for better organizational business performance. Although Electrical and Electronics (EE) industry contributes an excellent business performance in the past two decades, this industry was now facing significant challenges in maintaining the growth of their business performance, and it is necessary for them to move up the value chain. Thus, this study aims to examine the relationship between psychological empowerment and organizational business performance of EE industry in Malaysia. In this study, psychological empowerment consists four elements namely autonomy, self-efficacy, impact, and meaning. By using self-administered survey, the data were obtained from 287 respondents from EE companies in Malaysia. The data were then analyzed utilizing Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique. The findings of this study provide insight into the importance of psychological empowerment in organizational business performance. The findings indicate that, of all those four elements of psychological empowerment, only autonomy, self-efficacy, and meaning have significant influences on the business performance in the EE industry. Lastly, this study will contribute in term of theoretical, managerial and methodological perspectives, limitations and recommendation for future studies.
