Abstract

Objective: to evaluate SRNS therapy in children. Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) is one of the most common causes of chronic kidney disease in children. Kidney Disease Initiative for Global Outcome (KDIGO) no longer recommends an alkylating agent (AA) as the treatment protocol for SRNS, still in some developing countries, such as Indonesia, there are some limitations in obtaining immunosuppressive agents other than AA. Method: Data were collected from the medical records of SRNS children with SRNS aged between 1 and 18 years from January 2016 to December 2021. The data included time to remission, adverse effects, and relapse-free period after receiving AA treatment based on the lesion type.  Results: Among the 369 patients enrolled from January 2016 to December 2018, 244 patients (66.12%) had remission with AA, and 125 patients experienced persistent proteinuria. Most of them had remission during the fifth to seventh cycles of intravenous AA (after 6 – 8 months). None of the patients experienced severe adverse effects of AA. Only a small proportion of patients had chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage II–V during follow-up. Conclusions: AA is still effective in treating SRNS in children, with only a few and less harmful adverse effects

Abstract

Elementary school-age children often lack knowledge about dental and oral hygiene, leading to neglect in maintaining their health. To address this, engaging health promotion media, such as comics, can be utilized to enhance their understanding. This quasi-experimental study employed a two-group pre-test-post-test design with 87 elementary school students, divided into an experimental group (educated using comics) and a control group (educated using leaflets). A 20-question questionnaire assessed knowledge levels before and after the intervention. Results showed an increase in knowledge in both groups, with a significantly higher improvement in the comic group compared to the leaflet group. Unpaired T-test analysis confirmed a statistically significant difference (p=0.000, p<0.05), indicating that comics are more effective than leaflets in enhancing dental health knowledge. The study concludes that comic-based health promotion significantly improves oral hygiene awareness among elementary school children, suggesting its potential as an effective educational tool.

Abstract

The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the world has reached 38.4 million, including adolescents and adults. During adolescence, to grow and develop with good health, teenagers need information, including health education, to strengthen their understanding of health problems such as HIV/AIDS. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of animated video-based health education on adolescents' knowledge about HIV/AIDS. The research design uses a pre-experimental design with one group pretest posttest. The population is all teenage students at MAN 2 Ciamis school, totaling 644 respondents. This sampling method uses Non Probability Sampling Purposive Sampling with a sample size of 87 respondents. The sampling technique uses the Slovin formula and measuring instruments in the form of questionnaires whose validity has been tested. The statistical test used is the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. The results of the research before being given animated video-based health education showed that 38 respondents (43.7%) were in the poor category, but after being given animated video-based health education, 73 respondents increased to the good category. respondents (83.9%), based on the Wilcoxon Sign Rank statistical test, it showed a significant p-value = 0.000 < 0.05. There is an influence of animated video-based health education on teenagers' knowledge

Abstract

The rapid spread of Covid-19 has impacted physical and psychological well-being globally, including in Indonesia. Anxiety and depression are prevalent psychological challenges during the pandemic. This study aimed to assess the relationship between Covid-19 knowledge and psychological outcomes—anxiety and depression—among residents in Indonesia's high-risk "red zones." A cross-sectional design was employed, involving 394 respondents who met inclusion criteria, selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using online surveys incorporating the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP), GAD-7, and PHQ-9 questionnaires. Results indicated that 84.5% of respondents had good knowledge of Covid-19. However, 35.3% and 27.9% reported depression and anxiety, respectively. Spearman correlation analysis found no significant relationship between Covid-19 knowledge and either anxiety (p = 0.311) or depression (p = 0.356). These findings suggest that while knowledge levels were high, psychological issues persisted, highlighting a gap in addressing mental health during the pandemic. This study underscores the need for targeted interventions to mitigate the psychological impact of Covid-19 in high-risk communities

Abstract

Acute coronary syndrome is a disease process with a collection of symptoms caused by acute myocardial ischemia due to the presence of atherosclerotic plaques. It has become a health problem with the highest mortality rate in the world and high blood glucose levels are associated with poor clinical outcomes and increased risk of death in hospitalised patients. To determine the relationship between blood sugar levels and mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome in RSUD Dr. H. Chasan Boesoirie in 2018-2023. This type of research is quantitative cross sectional analytical observational with a retrospective approach and using Spearman’s rho test. The sample totalled to 131 samples taken using medical record data with simple random sampling technique. Based on bivariate analysis, p-value = 0.003 (p<0.05) with a correlation coefficient of 0.261 which means there is a relationship between increased blood sugar levels with mortality with a weak positive correlation. There is a relationship between blood sugar levels and mortality, namely the higher the blood sugar level, the higher the mortality

Abstract

The addition of BKO (Chemical Drug Ingredients) to traditional medicines is no longer commonplace. This condition is raises serious health concerns if it is allowed to continue because it can cause damage to body organs, especially liver damage. The purpose of this study was to test whether traditional medicines (“jamu pegal linu”) sold at Pasar Tingkat Lamongan contain paracetamol or not. This is because this type of traditional medicine is widely sold in this market and has never been tested for the presence of BKO. The traditional medicine samples studied have criteria that are not listed the composition of the ingredients. The test for the presence of BKO (paracetamol) uses two methods, namely the color test by reacting with iron (III) chloride reagent and the TLC test. The results of the study showed that 1 out of 4 samples studied contained paracetamol. For further research related to the TLC test for the presence of paracetamol in traditional medicines, it is better not to use only one type of eluent comparison

Abstract

Urinary tract stones (UTC) are the occurrence of stones in the urinary tract organs. Environmental factors such as daily behavior, excess body weight, eating habits, and lack of fluid intake influence the occurrence of UTC. Hormonal, genetic, and anatomical factors can also play a role in its pathogenesis. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of urinary tract stone patients at Dr. H. Chasan Boesoirie Ternate Regional Hospital. This type of research is descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach research design. The data used are secondary data in the form of medical records of UTC patients in 2021-2023. This study obtained a total sample of 171 people, the distribution of patients was mostly male (67.8%), adult age group (≥19-<45 years) (39.2%), normal body mass index (BMI) (49.1%), high school education (58.5%), and civil servant/military/police/state-owned enterprises/regional-owned enterprises occupation (21.1%). Men are at higher risk of experiencing UTC, allegedly due to the role of hormones. Workload, sweat, and lack of fluids that are common in productive age are risk factors for BSK. Obesity triggers urinary tract stones through increased uric acid, decreased urine pH, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Education level can affect the risk of BSK. Work can be a risk for BSK due to sun exposure to poor lifestyle
