Abstract

Low-plasticity clay (CL) exhibits low stiffness and is easily deformable, thus requiring an efficient and environmentally friendly improvement method. Prior studies on Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) have predominantly emphasized improvements in soil compressive strength, whereas investigations addressing its effects on soil stiffness and elastic modulus remain relatively limited. Accordingly, the present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of biostimulated MICP in enhancing the elastic modulus parameters (E₀ and Eₜ) of low-plasticity clay (CL). To achieve this objective, laboratory tests were conducted on soil specimens under two conditions, namely untreated samples and samples treated with an MICP solution, with incubation durations of 7 and 14 days. The Unconfined Compression Test (UCS) was conducted to obtain stress-strain relationships, which were then analyzed to determine the elastic modulus values. The results show that at 7 days of incubation, the MICP-treated soil exhibited increases of approximately 92% in E₀ and 90% in Eₜ compared to the untreated condition. With extended incubation to 14 days, the improvements became more pronounced, with E₀ increasing by approximately 104% and Eₜ by about 125% relative to untreated soil. The ANOVA results indicated that the differences between the untreated specimens and those treated with MICP were statistically significant, as evidenced by p-values below the 0.05 significance threshold. These findings demonstrate that the biostimulation process effectively enhances soil stiffness through interparticle calcite formation, providing a foundation for developing more efficient and eco-friendly soil stabilization methods applicable to infrastructure projects in tropical regions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and plan the abutment structure with bored pile foundations on the Besuk Bridge in Klabang District, Bondowoso Regency, East Java. The analysis was conducted to ensure the bearing capacity of the bored piles against axial and lateral loads in accordance with SNI 1725:2016 and SNI 2833:2016. The data used includes soil data from field investigations, shop drawings, and structural design parameters. The calculation process includes determining load combinations, analyzing axial bearing capacity (end resistance and skin friction), and the lateral capacity of piles against horizontal forces due to wind and earthquakes. The analysis results show that the total axial bearing capacity of the foundation is 10,465.26 kN, with a maximum load occurring on the pile of 1,262.56 kN, which is still below the allowable capacity. Meanwhile, the results of the lateral load control show that all load combinations produce lateral forces (Tx and Ty) that are smaller than the allowable capacity. Based on these results, the bored pile foundation with a diameter of 0.8 m and a depth of 10 m is deemed safe to withstand both axial and lateral loads. Thus, the design of the abutment structure and bored pile foundation for the Besuk Bridge meets the stability and strength criteria in accordance with applicable design standards.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the differences in the properties and stress distribution of steel connections of the Splice Plate and End Plate types using finite element method. Connection are crucial structural element that influence the overall strength, stiffness and behaviour of steel structure, particularly in beam splices where failure modes under flexural and shear loads can vary significantly. The experiment was carried out to determine the more efficient connection type evaluat the stiffness variation based on connection location, and identify failure point under combined flexural and shear forces. The analysis was performed with literature review and testing using MIDAS FEA NX software with a non-linear approach on SS400 grade steel and A325 bolts. The connection design referred to SNI and AISC regulations, analyzing I-beam profiles (IWF) and both connection types. The modeling was performed at two positions: mid-span and beam edge (end-span). The analysis results showed a similar Load-Displacement curve pattern with a maximum load of approximately 200 kN before entering the plastic phase, leading to a deflection of 435–448 mm at the mid-span. Although both connections are nearly identical behavior, the Splice Plate connection demonstrated higher stiffness, while the End Plate connection seemed more efficient because it requires fewer bolts and less additional plating in the fabrication process.

Abstract

This review examines the mechanisms, effectiveness, sustainability, and durability-critical design considerations of bio-enzymatic stabilization for collapsible gypseous (gypsum-bearing) soils. These soils are common in arid and semi-arid regions and may undergo abrupt settlement upon wetting because gypsum dissolution weakens interparticle bonding and triggers fabric collapse. Conventional binders (cement, lime, pozzolans) can improve strength but are associated with high embodied CO2 and performance losses under leaching and wetting–drying exposure. Bio-enzymatic routes, including bio-enzyme stabilisation (BES) and bio-cementation via enzyme- or microbially induced carbonate precipitation (EICP/MICP), enhance soil performance by forming CaCO3 bridges and pore infills, reducing pore connectivity and permeability, and improving fabric stability. Recent developments such as non-ureolytic, ammonium-free pathways further improve environmental compatibility. Evidence from recent studies on Iraqi gypseous soils indicates marked reductions in collapse potential and meaningful gains in shear strength and stiffness when treatment distribution and curing are controlled. The review synthesizes durability trends under wetting–drying cycles, soaking, leaching, and temperature variations, and proposes a practical evaluation framework to support field adoption in gypsum-rich deposits.

Abstract

This study develops a drone-based multi-class traffic counting system using fine-tuned YOLO11 integrated with the SORT tracking algorithm on a one-way urban corridor. Aerial data was captured at an altitude of 25 meters using a DJI Mavic 3 drone from a nadir perspective to minimize intermodal occlusion. System performance was validated against manual ground truth using Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) metrics. The system achieved an overall MAPE of 18% and an RMSE of 45.07. Notably, the car class demonstrated perfect accuracy (0% error), confirming that these automated counts are suitable for direct application in fundamental traffic engineering metrics. Conversely, significant overcounting occurred in the motorcycle class (+34.9%), primarily attributed to Non-Maximum Suppression (NMS) failures under conditions of dense spatial proximity. In civil engineering practice, utilizing uncalibrated automated counts risks overestimating the Volume-to-Capacity (V/C) ratio, leading to a false degradation of the reported Level of Service (LOS). Consequently, a specific calibration factor of -26% for motorcycle counts is essential to ensure data validity for high-precision infrastructure design and signal timing optimization. Abstract

Daily mobility in the Gerbangkertosusila region requires public transportation services that are accessible and able to serve diverse user groups effectively. TransJatim Bus Corridor V (Cakraningrat) plays a strategic role in connecting Bangkalan and Surabaya, serving passengers with varying travel characteristics. This study aims to identify user characteristics and travel behavior of TransJatim Bus Corridor V passengers and to analyze the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and travel behavior. A quantitative approach was employed through a questionnaire survey of 100 regular passengers at Purabaya Terminal, Surabaya, conducted from September to November 2025. The data were analyzed descriptively and using Crosstabs analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results indicate that passengers are predominantly young individuals with relatively low income levels, primarily traveling for school and work purposes. Passenger travel patterns are generally characterized by short first-mile and last-mile distances, with walking as the dominant access mode. The Chi-Square test results reveal that only gender has a significant relationship with the mode of transport used prior to utilizing TransJatim, while other sociodemographic variables show no significant relationship with travel behavior. These findings suggest that passenger travel behavior is relatively homogeneous across sociodemographic groups, highlighting the importance of providing affordable and easily accessible public transport services to support daily mobility.

Abstract

Toll roads have a strategic role in supporting the mobility and distribution of goods in Indonesia, so the fulfillment of the Standar Pelayanan Minimal (SPM) is important to ensure safety, comfort, and service efficiency. This study evaluates the implementation of SPM in six national toll road corridors based on the Regulation of the Minister of Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat (PUPR) Number 16/PRT/M/2014. The results of the study show that in general toll road services have met standards, especially in the indicators of average travel speed, transaction speed, and vehicle queue length at toll gates. However, unevenness and roughness of the pavement are still the main obstacles, which is reflected in the Surabaya-Gresik and Ciawi-Sukabumi sections due to unevenness of the pavement, as well as on the Cikampek-Palimanan section and the Ujung Pandang Toll Road Sections 1-3 due to the unavailability of up-to-date periodic monitoring data. The novelty of this study lies in the mapping of cross-corridor SPM fulfillment which shows that the decline in service performance is more influenced by operational factors and vehicle load over dimension over load (ODOL) on the logistics line than the quality of the initial construction. These findings confirm the importance of integrating information technology in predictive maintenance systems and adaptive traffic management to detect pavement degradation early. The limitation of this study lies in the use of secondary data, so that administrative discipline in updating operational data is an important factor for Badan Usaha Jalan Tol (BUJT) in supporting accurate and transparent decision-making.
