Abstract

Moringa oleifera leaves are widely recognized as a rich source of protein, vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds with potential health benefits. However, drying temperature may influence their nutritional composition and bioactive properties, making the selection of an appropriate processing condition essential. Although previous studies have investigated the effects of drying on moringa leaves, limited information is available regarding the simultaneous evaluation of total tannin and essential minerals under low-temperature (30°C) and moderate-temperature (50°C) drying conditions. Therefore, this study contributes to existing knowledge by providing an integrated comparison of these quality parameters. This study aimed to compare the effects of processing temperatures of 30°C and 50°C on the nutritional content of moringa leaves. A laboratory experimental design was applied, with moringa leaves processed at the two drying temperatures. The measured parameters included total tannin and the mineral contents of magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), potassium (K), and iron (Fe). Data were analyzed quantitatively to compare nutrient composition between treatments. The results showed that Moringa oleifera leaf powder dried at 50°C had higher measured concentrations of total tannin, Mg, Na, Ca, K, and Fe than that dried at 30°C. These findings indicate that moderate-temperature drying can enhance the measured retention of both bioactive compounds and minerals. Overall, drying at 50°C can be considered a practical processing condition for producing moringa leaf powder with higher measured tannin and mineral contents while maintaining processing efficiency for food and dietary supplement applications.

Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) infants remain vulnerable to complications after discharge, making appropriate home-based care essential. This study examined the effects of Community Health Worker (CHW) Support on Home-Based Care Practices for LBW Infants, with Maternal Health Literacy as a mediating variable. This study advances previous research by positioning Maternal Health Literacy as an explanatory mediating mechanism that links CHW Support with Home-Based Care Practices, thereby providing a more comprehensive understanding of how community-based support contributes to maternal caregiving behavior after discharge. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 250 mothers or primary caregivers of LBW infants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 3. CHW Support significantly and positively affected Maternal Health Literacy (β = 0.632; p 0.001) and Home-Based Care Practices (β = 0.232; p = 0.006). Maternal Health Literacy also had a positive and significant effect on Home-Based Care Practices (β = 0.415; p 0.001). Furthermore, Maternal Health Literacy significantly mediated the relationship between CHW Support and Home-Based Care Practices (β = 0.262; p 0.001). The model explained 40.0% of the variance in Maternal Health Literacy and 35.7% of the variance in Home-Based Care Practices. These findings indicate that CHW Support improves home-based care both directly and indirectly by strengthening mothers’ capacity to access, understand, evaluate, and apply health information. The findings contribute to a community-based neonatal care model by integrating Social Support Theory and the Health Literacy Framework in post-discharge care for LBW infants.

Abstract

Background: Children with intellectual disabilities are at high risk of experiencing motor planning deficits, which impact their independence and social participation. These deficits are associated with impairments in sensory processing and sensorimotor integration. Although Sensory Integration Therapy (SIT) is widely used to improve motor skills in children with developmental disorders, research specifically evaluating the effectiveness of SIT on motor planning abilities in children with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities remains very limited. Most previous studies have focused on general motor skills or involved populations of children with other developmental disorders. Objective: To determine the effect of Sensory Integration Therapy on motor planning in children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Angkasa Halim in 2025. Methods: A quasi-experimental study using a two-group pretest-posttest design. The measurement tool used was the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2nd Edition, Short Form (BOT-2 SF). The intervention group received Sensory Integration Therapy three times a week for four weeks (40-minute sessions), while the control group engaged only in standard daily school activities. Results: Paired T-test results for the intervention group showed a mean value of 4.25 and a p-value of 0.000, whereas the control group showed a mean value of 0.41 and a p-value of 0.096. The Independent T-test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference in the effect between the intervention and control groups. Conclusion: Sensory Integration Therapy has a significant effect on motor planning abilities in children with intellectual disabilities at SLB Angkasa.
