Abstract

This research examines the role of entrepreneurial passion in shaping entrepreneurial intention, with self-efficacy and leadership considered as mediating factors among micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) owners in Batam City. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 306 respondents and analyzed with Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS 4. The results demonstrate that entrepreneurial passion exerts a significant positive influence on self-efficacy, leadership, and entrepreneurial intention. In addition, both self-efficacy and leadership contribute meaningfully to strengthening entrepreneurial intention. These findings underline the importance of psychological aspects in stimulating entrepreneurial behavior and supporting business growth. The study enriches the entrepreneurship literature by presenting an integrated model of entrepreneurial passion, self-efficacy, leadership, and entrepreneurial intention, while also offering practical insights for policymakers to inform MSME development strategies that enhance entrepreneurial capacity and ensure long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Brand identity transition is a crucial strategy for companies to maintain market relevance, but studies on its impact on consumer preferences as direct outputs are limited. This study aims to analyze the effect of PT Aspirasi Hidup Indonesia Tbk's rebranding from ACE Hardware to AZKO on brand equity and consumer preferences, to address the research gap regarding consumer behavior following the brand transition. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 151 respondents in the Greater Jakarta area via purposive sampling. Data analysis was carried out using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method based on SmartPLS 4.1.1.6. The results show that rebranding has a positive and significant effect on brand equity and consumer preferences. The key findings of this study reveal that rebranding has a stronger influence on consumer preferences (β=0.673) than on brand equity (β=0.618). The novelty of this research lies in proving that the new philosophy of "AZKO" succeeds in creating emotional relevance that accelerates the shift in consumer preferences in the younger generation, beyond just a change in visual identity. In practical terms, the study provides guidance for retail managers on how to release international licenses by building a strong local identity without losing valuable assets in consumers' minds.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of compensation, work motivation, organizational culture, leadership, and work discipline on employee performance at PT Adiartha Swabuana Batam partially or simultaneously. The study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design. The population is all employees of PT Adiartha Swabuana Batam as many as 60 people, and the entire population is used as a sample using saturated sampling techniques (census). Data were collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, then analyzed using multiple linear regression assisted by IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The results showed that partially all variables had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, namely compensation (t = 5.134; sig. = 0.000), work motivation (t = 5.149; sig. = 0.000), organizational culture (t = 2.256; sig. = 0.026), leadership (t = 8.448; sig. = 0.000), and work discipline (t = 9.289; sig. = 0.000). Simultaneously, all five variables had a significant effect on employee performance (F = 5.300; sig. = 0.000) with an Adjusted R² of 0.267, which means that the five independent variables together explain 26.7% of the variation in employee performance. The effects are, however, distributed unevenly: work discipline is by far the most dominant variable (β = 0.766), followed by compensation (β = 0.318), leadership (β = 0.272), and work motivation (β = 0.271), while organizational culture is the weakest predictor in the model (β = 0.085). This study was limited to one oil and gas EPCM company in Batam with a sample size of 60 respondents, so the generalization of the findings needs to be done carefully. Practically, management needs to prioritize strengthening work discipline, compensation, and leadership as a strategic step to improve performance, and to sustain work motivation, which also contributes substantially; by contrast, organizational culture calls for a change of approach rather than additional investment, with the intended values embedded in the operating procedures and project routines that actually govern behaviour in the oil and gas project industry. The novelty of the research lies in the context of the oil and gas EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Manpower Service) industry in Batam which is still rarely studied empirically in the human resource management literature in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and empirically prove the influence of leadership style, apparatus competence, infrastructure, and development programs on the performance of the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) at the Batam City Culture and Tourism Office (Disbudpar). The research design uses a quantitative approach that is causal associative with data collection instruments in the form of a closed questionnaire on a Likert scale of 1-5 which is distributed to all 69 active ASN as a saturated sample (census) of the total population of Batam City Disbudpar employees in 2026. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics software version 26, including validity tests (Pearson Correlation, r-table = 0.361 for a 30-respondent trial), reliability test (Cronbach's Alpha ≥ 0.70), classical assumption test (normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity), multiple linear regression analysis, partial test (t-test), simultaneous test (F test), and determination coefficient (R²). The results of the instrument test showed that all 38 statement items were declared valid and all variables were reliable (α: 0.812–0.879). The findings of the study show that: (1) leadership style has a positive and significant effect on the performance of ASN (t-count = 3.506; Sig. = 0.001); (2) competence has a positive and significant effect on the performance of ASN (t-count = 3.989; Sig. = 0.000); (3) infrastructure facilities have a positive and significant effect on the performance of ASN (t-count = 3.070; Sig. = 0.003); (4) development programs have a positive and significant effect on the performance of ASN (t-count = 3.309; Sig. = 0.002); and (5) the regression model is significant as a whole, so that the four variables jointly explain variation in ASN performance (F-count = 51.634; Sig. = 0.000; R² = 0.779), with the direction of each effect established by the partial coefficients rather than by the F test. Competence emerges as the strongest predictor and infrastructure as the weakest, although the four effects lie within a narrow range. The limitations of the study include the scope of a single agency, the cross-sectional design, and the potential for common method and social desirability bias in self-reported survey responses. The practical implications provide recommendations to the leaders of the Disbudpar to strengthen transformational leadership, competency investment, infrastructure improvements, and sustainable development programs. Theoretically, this study extends Expectancy Theory (Vroom, 1964) and the competency framework of Spencer and Spencer (1993), whose conceptual origin lies in McClelland (1973), to the bureaucracy of a local government operating within an Indonesian special economic zone. The novelty of the research lies in the simultaneous testing of the four variables in a research framework within the industry-based city tourism office.
