Abstract

Hospital is a stressful experience for both children and their families. The main stressors could be in the form of separation from family, loss of control, bodily injury, and pain. In clinical practice, nursing assessments in identifying anxiety in children and parents were often challenging. Nurses tended to focus on the physical problem of children than on physicological respond. This research aimed to test the validity and reliability of parents' perception scale about hospitalization anxiety of children aged 1-6 years. The research used a descriptive-analytic research design with a cross-sectional study approach. The sample in this research were 34 parents taken by accidental sampling technique. The sample criteria were children undergoing hospitalization aged 1-6 years and being treated for more than one day. Data were collected using a questionnaire for parents' perceptions about the anxiety of hospitalization for children aged 1-6 years. This questionnaire consisted of 18 items ranging from never to often. The researcher used the Cronbach alpha test and Pearson product-moment to analyze the data. The results showed that 15 items were valid and reliable (r> 0.339) and Cronbach's Alpha value = 0.885). We could conclude that the scale was valid and reliable in measuring parents' perceptions about the anxiety of hospitalization for children aged 1-6 years. Further research was needed to test the effectiveness of this scale in a practical setting.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an archipelagic nation, faces a significant level of disaster vulnerability, with 3,721 natural disasters recorded in 2019. Vulnerable groups are one of the groups with the highest risk that need to be managed and given special attention in society, namely the disabled group. Disaster preparedness is an activity to minimize disaster risk, where preparedness is owned by anyone everywhere covering responding to disaster events quickly and effectively. The purpose of this study was to explore the preparedness of families with mental disabilities in disaster emergency response planning. A qualitative study was prepared using a phenomenological approach. A total of four participants who had family members with mental disabilities in Patient Nan Tigo Village participated in this study. Each participant was interviewed in depth to gather information regarding the participant's disaster emergency response plan for their family members with mental disabilities. The research results obtained 2 themes, namely: 1) Evacuation planning, and 2) Planning for family assistance and rescue. The results of this study provide recommendations that the family is the closest and trusted person for persons with mental disabilities, so that the ability and role of the family in disaster emergency response planning is very important to improve.

Abstract

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is importance for farmers, as it significantly influences their long-term well-being. Unfortunately, a considerable number of farmers engage in risky health practices, primarily due to their limited health literacy. This research delves into the intricate connection between health literacy and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among farmers residing in Tenggarang Urban Village, Bondowoso Regency. Our study employed a cross-sectional design, encompassing a sample of 90 farmers chosen through cluster random sampling. To assess health literacy, we employed the Health Literacy Short-Form Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-SQ10-IDN), designed for use in Indonesia. Additionally, we measured the extent of a healthy lifestyle using the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II). For statistical analysis, we utilized Kendall’s Tau-b correlation test, with a significance level set at α < 0.05. Our findings unveiled that an impressive 78.9% of respondents exhibited commendable health literacy levels, with 60% demonstrating a strong dedication to leading a healthy lifestyle. Crucially, we identified a statistically significant and positive correlation between health literacy and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among farmers (p value= 0.000 and r= 0.393). To further enrich this area of study, future research could delve deeper into the factors that influence health literacy and the facilitators encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices among farmers. Consequently, stakeholders are encouraged to formulate educational strategies aimed at bolstering health literacy within the farming community, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the adoption of healthy lifestyles to effectively enhance farmer well-being.

Abstract

Stunting remains a persistent nutritional challenge in Indonesia, posing a substantial threat to child growth and survival, typically manifesting in the second year of life. Its primary antecedent is inadequate prenatal protein intake, resulting in shortened birth length and increased susceptibility to stunting. This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between birth length and stunting among toddlers within Tasikmadu Village, employing a retrospective cohort design with a total sample size of 128 individuals selected through Total Sampling. The analysis of the collected data yielded a noteworthy result, with a calculated p-value exceeding 0.570. This outcome signifies the absence of a statistically significant correlation between birth length and the incidence of stunting among the study participants in Tasikmadu Village. Instead, the investigation highlights the prominence of postnatal factors as significant determinants of stunting prevalence. These factors include the untimely introduction of complementary foods alongside breastfeeding (MP-ASI), irregular MP-ASI feeding schedules, a predominantly carbohydrate-based MP-ASI menu, erratic breastfeeding timings, and premature discontinuation of exclusive breastfeeding. In summary, this study discerns a conspicuous dissociation between birth length and stunting occurrence in Tasikmadu Village. The implication is that the roots of stunting lie predominantly in postnatal practices, emphasizing the critical role of addressing issues such as inappropriate MP-ASI practices and breastfeeding patterns to effectively combat the prevalence of stunting among toddlers. These findings contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the multifaceted nature of stunting in this context, guiding future interventions and public health initiatives aimed at its mitigation.

Abstract

As the elderly undergo physiological alterations during the aging process and are exposed to environmental influences that heighten their vulnerability to diseases, understanding the role of family support in mitigating health challenges, particularly hypertension, becomes paramount. Our research employed a correlational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach to elucidate this relationship. Utilizing purposive sampling, we meticulously selected a cohort of 62 elderly individuals as our study participants. Data acquisition entailed the utilization of a comprehensive questionnaire comprising 25 statement items. Additionally, guided interviews, grounded in the questionnaire, were conducted. The rigorous statistical analysis was executed using the chi-square formula, applying a 95% confidence interval and an alpha (α) level of 0.05. The outcomes of this meticulous analysis yielded a compelling revelation—a statistically significant association between family support and the efficacy of hypertension control among the elderly (P value = 0.003, P value ≤ α).This empirical evidence underscores the pivotal role of family support in the management of hypertension among the elderly demographic. Consequently, we advocate for heightened attention and augmented support from families, underlining the importance of their involvement in the hypertension control efforts for the elderly. Such support can serve as a critical safeguard against the onset of complications stemming from hypertension within the elderly population. In summary, this study accentuates the significance of family support as a mitigating factor in the management of hypertension among the elderly, ultimately contributing to the avoidance of hypertension-related complications in this vulnerable demographic.

Abstract

Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the demands placed on nursing students during clinical practice have necessitated a heightened level of professionalism. Paradoxically, this intensified clinical environment has also given rise to increased rates of depression among nursing students, compounding the preexisting challenges they face. This study is driven by the objective of investigating the correlation between coping strategies and depression among nursing students actively engaged in clinical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 373 nursing students participated in this cross-sectional study. The assessment of depression among the respondents was carried out using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Coping strategies were evaluated through the application of the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Inventory (Brief-COPE). The results yielded significant insights, with the coping strategy of reframing (p=0.009) demonstrating a noteworthy correlation with depression. In the realm of emotion-focused coping strategies, while the acceptance subscale (p=0.310) did not exhibit a significant correlation with depression, emotional support (p=0.037), venting (p=0.000), humor (p=0.000), and self-blame (p=0.003) all displayed notable correlations with depression. Furthermore, within the domain of avoidance coping, self-distraction (p=0.000), denial (p=0.008), substance use (p=0.000), and behavioral disengagement (p=0.000) subscales were also found to be significantly correlated with depression. nThese findings underscore the paramount importance of fostering adaptive coping strategies and emphasize the pivotal role of clinical instructors in preparing and bolstering students to effectively manage their emotional well-being during clinical practice, particularly within the challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Stroke remains a prominent cause of disability and high mortality rates, particularly within Indonesia. Timely intervention during the critical phases of a stroke can mitigate disabilities and fatalities. Health education stands as a pivotal strategy for implementing health promotion and disease prevention initiatives. This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of employing the flipbook F-A-S-T method as an educational tool to enhance early stroke detection utilizing the F-A-S-T media in a prehospital context. Utilizing a quantitative approach and a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-post test design, this research applies purposive sampling for participant selection. Initial knowledge assessments yielded a mean pretest score of 72.88±2.818. Following the intervention, the mean posttest score increased to 82.24±1.640. Statistical analysis indicated a p-value of 0.000, signifying a significant difference in knowledge levels before and after the educational intervention. The study findings strongly suggest that the implementation of flipbook F-A-S-T methods as an educational medium substantially enhances knowledge regarding the early detection of stroke utilizing the F-A-S-T method in a prehospital setting. This underscores the potential of such educational tools in improving public awareness and preparedness in the context of stroke, ultimately contributing to more favorable outcomes and reduced stroke-related disability and mortality rates.
