Abstract

Hospital is a stressful experience for both children and their families. The main stressors could be in the form of separation from family, loss of control, bodily injury, and pain. In clinical practice, nursing assessments in identifying anxiety in children and parents were often challenging. Nurses tended to focus on the physical problem of children than on physicological respond. This research aimed to test the validity and reliability of parents' perception scale about hospitalization anxiety of children aged 1-6 years. The research used a descriptive-analytic research design with a cross-sectional study approach. The sample in this research were 34 parents taken by accidental sampling technique. The sample criteria were children undergoing hospitalization aged 1-6 years and being treated for more than one day. Data were collected using a questionnaire for parents' perceptions about the anxiety of hospitalization for children aged 1-6 years. This questionnaire consisted of 18 items ranging from never to often. The researcher used the Cronbach alpha test and Pearson product-moment to analyze the data. The results showed that 15 items were valid and reliable (r> 0.339) and Cronbach's Alpha value = 0.885). We could conclude that the scale was valid and reliable in measuring parents' perceptions about the anxiety of hospitalization for children aged 1-6 years. Further research was needed to test the effectiveness of this scale in a practical setting.

Abstract

Traffic accidents kill nearly 1.2 million people worldwide and injure around 6 million people every year. The highest number of traffic accident victims based on age is in the productive age group, especially in the 16-30 year age range. One of the effective efforts to reduce the number of teenage deaths caused by traffic accidents is by using motorbike helmets. There is a lack of information and publicity efforts that it is very important to use a motorbike helmet, especially because head injuries are the quickest cause of death. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of health promotion regarding the risk of head injury on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescents in using motorbike helmets at SMAN 1 Enam Lingkung, Padang Pariaman Regency. The design of this research is a pre-experimental one group pre-post test design. The sample studied was 25 people selected using purposive sampling technique. It is known that the average attitude before the intervention was 31.64 and after the intervention 33.16. From the statistical results on attitudes, the t value was 3.42 and P value = 0.002 < α (0.05). It was concluded that there was an influence of health promotion regarding the risk of head injury on teenagers' attitudes towards using motorbike helmets at SMAN 1 Enam Lingkung, Padang Pariaman Regency. Thus, it is hoped that health services and schools will further increase promotive efforts in publicizing safe riding to students. Keywords: Health Promotion, Attitude, Head Injuries, Motorcycle Helmets

Abstract

Maternal anxiety during the childbirth process is a common psychological condition that can potentially increase the risk of complications, prolong labor, and reduce the likelihood of a positive birthing experience. High anxiety levels in mothers may interfere with the effectiveness of labor, impact maternal and fetal well-being, and lead to increased medical interventions. One of the most important support systems during labor is the presence and active involvement of the husband. The husband’s role is not only limited to being present but also includes providing emotional, physical, and motivational support to the mother. Recognizing the importance of this role, this community service program was designed to enhance husbands’ understanding and skills in supporting their wives during childbirth, thereby helping to reduce maternal anxiety. The program consisted of several stages, including the delivery of structured health education sessions on maternal needs during labor, demonstrations of effective communication techniques, simulations of support during different stages of childbirth, and interactive discussions to address questions and share experiences. Through these activities, participants were encouraged to build empathy, strengthen their knowledge about labor, and develop the confidence to assist their wives effectively. The results of the program indicated a noticeable improvement in the husbands’ awareness of the importance of their role, as well as increased confidence in providing both emotional reassurance and physical assistance. Participants reported feeling better prepared to accompany their wives, manage unexpected situations, and foster a more supportive environment during childbirth. This initiative highlights the significant impact that targeted education and training for husbands can have on maternal psychological well-being, ultimately contributing to safer and more positive birth experiences.

Abstract

Extravasation describes the process of leaking of substances injected into blood vessels into surrounding tissues. The incidence of extravasation ranges from 0.5%-6% in patients receiving peripheral chemotherapy. One way of treating extravasation is by using dressings. Hydrocolloid contains carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and gelatin. The function of hydrocolloid is to provide a moist environment, overcome inflammation, and protect epithelialised wounds from physical, chemical, and thermal trauma Objective: The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of using Hydrocolloid dressing with regular wound care on the incidence of extravasation in the chronic room of dr. Mdjamil Hospital Padang Method: The type of research is quantitative with an Experimental Study design with a control Pre- Post Test. This study was conducted from February to July 2023 with 50 samples using the Simple Random Sampling technique. Data were collected using observation sheets, then tested with the General Linear Model Repeated Measure. Results: Based on the research results, a P value of 0.001 was obtained, giving hydrocolloid dressing had an effect in overcoming the incidence of extravasation after its use in children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. The median score of extravasation on hydrocolloid was 7 and on ordinary wound care with a median score of 9 on the incidence of extravasation where the p-value was 0.018 Conclusions: There is an effect of using Hydrocolloid dressing on the incidence of extravasation in the chronic room of Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang. There is no effect of regular wound care on the incidence of extravasation in the chronic room of Dr. M. Djamil Hospital Padang.
