Abstract

Depression among young adults has become an increasing global public health concern, with substantial personal and societal impacts. While several studies have explored depression in younger populations, research specifically targeting millennials in Indonesia remains limited. This study aimed to describe the severity of depression and examine gender differences in depression levels among Indonesian millennials. A quantitative, descriptive-comparative design was employed. The participants consisted of 200 individuals aged 26 to 40 years, representing the millennial generation, who were recruited through purposive sampling. Depression severity was measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), a validated self-report instrument. Data were collected through an online survey and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Independent Samples t-Test (with Mann-Whitney U as an alternative when assumptions were not met). The findings revealed that approximately 29% of respondents experienced moderate to severe levels of depression, indicating a substantial mental health burden within this demographic. No significant differences in depression scores were found between male and female respondents. These results highlight the urgency of addressing mental health needs among Indonesian millennials, who are currently in a critical phase of socio-economic productivity and family formation. It is essential to strengthen early detection and develop tailored mental health interventions that are accessible and culturally relevant for this population. Future research should consider longitudinal designs to explore protective and risk factors for depression, and the potential of digital-based mental health interventions to support this tech-savvy generation.

Abstract

The existence of good social support was found to help special needs teachers cope with the demands of their work, thereby improving their psychological well-being. This study aimed to examine the influence of social support on the psychological well-being of private special needs teachers in Padang. This study employed a quantitative approach, with 246 teachers in the population and 153 in the sample. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data on social support were collected using the Social Provision Scale (SPS), and data on psychological well- being were collected using the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS). This study used a simple regression analysis technique. The results indicated that social support had a significant impact on the psychological well-being of private SLB teachers in Padang city, with a regression coefficient of 0.528, p-value < 0.00, and R-squared value of 27.9%. This meant that the higher the level of social support a person had, the higher their level of psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study investigated whether self-management can successfully reduce excessive smartphone use to improve quality of life. Two experimental conditions were examined: experiment 1 involved self-management components, and experiment two added a goal-setting component to the self-management intervention. Three Chinese university students aimed to develop self-control of their excessive smartphone use by identifying competing behaviors to reduce their phone usage, improve their sleep behaviors, and overall quality of life. A multiple baseline design with repetition across participants was adopted. Treatment effect scores were calculated using Non-Overlap of All Pairs (NAP). Results indicated that the self- management intervention achieved moderate effects, and the additional of a goal- setting component achieved strong treatment effects, for participants who successfully reduced their excessive smartphone use. This study contributes to the literature on the use of self-management to reduce excessive smartphone use amongst Chinese university students. It also contributes to the literature on the relevance and effectiveness of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) interventions in China.

Abstract

Mental health is a crucial component of overall health that significantly influences quality of life and societal well-being. However, low levels of mental health literacy remain a persistent issue in many rural areas, including Soka, Mertelu, Gedangsari, Gunungkidul. This limited understanding may lead to delays in recognizing psychological problems, increased stigma, and underutilization of mental health services. Psychoeducation is considered a preventive and promotive approach aimed at improving knowledge, attitudes, and public understanding of mental health. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation in enhancing mental health literacy. This study employed a quasi-experimental design without a control group, using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 19 residents of Soka, Mertelu, Gedangsari, Gunungkidul. Data were collected using a multiple-choice mental health literacy and analyzed using a paired sample t-test with IBM SPSS version 23. The results showed a t-test value of -5.112 with a significance level of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant effect. Therefore, it can be concluded that mental health psychoeducation is effective in improving mental health literacy among the community in Soka, Mertelu, Gedangsari, Gunungkidul.
