Abstract

Pace of life has been found to be associated with various life outcomes such as mental health and well-being to information distribution and economic development. Every city has a different pace of life due to its specific characteristics. Across two studies, we examined the role of temperature and number of populations (city size) as the predictors of pace of life. In the first study, we compared Bandung and Jakarta and in the second study, we compared Jakarta and Depok. Each pace of life index was generated by mean scores of walking speed, working speed and clock accuracy. Through field observation in each city's Central Business District, we found that based on temperature, Jakarta has higher means of walking speed (M=15.3) compared to Bandung (M=13.6), significantly with mean difference 1.71 (t(158)=5.32, p.001, d=0.841). Jakarta is also significantly higher on the working speed indicator (M=25.7) compared to Bandung (M=17.5) with mean difference 8.22 (t(18)=2.49, p=.011). In the second study, we found that  Jakarta has significantly lower means of walking speed (M=14.3) compared to Depok (M=17.9) with mean difference 3.54, t(158)=11.058, p.001. Similarly, Jakarta also has lower means of working speed (M=18.58) and clock accuracy (M=1.33) compared to Depok (M working speed=19.9, M clock accuracy=3.67), although not significant.  Overall, as predicted, based on temperature, the colder city Bandung has a faster pace of life compared to Jakarta. Jakarta also has a faster pace of life compared to Bandung, although significant only for its walking speed.

The data was analyzed using Mann-Whitney U Test. This study found a significant difficulty experienced by visually impaired children in performance subtest. Further, no significant difference in verbal IQ was found between visually impaired children and non-visually impaired children. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for developing intelligence measuring tools for visually impaired children in the future.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the Stepping Stones Triple-P (SSTP) intervention in a family of teenagers with moderate intellectual disability with emotional and behavioral problems. This intervention program aims to help prevent emotional and behavioral problems in children with moderate intellectual disability through positive parenting training. This intervention program is carried out in 9 sessions; each session lasts ± 60 – 120 minutes at each meeting and lasts ± three weeks, carried out online through the Zoom meeting. The intervention method in this study was implemented through lectures, discussions, worksheets, and roleplay methods. Children's behavior problems were measured using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and a diary of children's behavior filled in by parents during pre-post intervention and follow-up. The Parenting Sense of Competence Scale (PSOC) measures parents' perceptions of competence in parenting practices. This study's participants were the parents (mother) of a boy aged 16 years 4 months (N) diagnosed with moderate intellectual disability with emotional and behavioral problems. The results of this study indicate that the SSTP intervention program effectively reduces the emotional and behavioral problems shown by N by increasing the knowledge and skills of parents in implementing positive parenting strategies. In this study, there were positive changes in parenting practices applied by mothers to children, such as forming a harmonious and warm relationship between mothers and children. The positive changes achieved by mothers in implementing positive parenting also influenced the change in problematic behavior in children (N) to decrease and become more positive.

This study used single-case A-B-A design with 3 participants. Caregivers’ forgiveness and psychological well-being measured using Heartland Forgiveness Scale for Caregiver, Forgiveness Checklist, Psychological Well-Being Scale, and Psychological Well-Being Checklist. Data analysis through visual inspection revealed that participants’ forgiveness and psychological well-being score increased during and after therapy and descriptive analysis showed that participants experienced therapeutic impacts in psychological well-being dimensions. However, this result could not be confirmed as the effect of therapy since the baseline of psychological well-being for these three participants appeared to be unstable. In conclusion, Forgiveness Therapy in this study could not increase the psychological well-being of family caregivers of patients with schizophrenia.

Abstract

This paper reports on the implementation of shaping and differential reinforcement technique to help a child who struggles in his school activity due to language difficulty. The intervention was conducted in total of 21 session with, 15 main treatment session, 3 session in the beginning of the treatment for baseline measurement and 3 sessions in the end of the treatment for follow-up measurement. Each session lasts 45 to 60 minutes for four weeks. The treatment employs a combination of shaping and differential reinforcement due to the nature of the difficulty faced by the participant. Changes in time spent on assignment and grade was recorded on each session. This study uses single-subject experimental design with baseline as pre-test and follow-up session as post-test. The study participant was Rudi, a boy aged 8. He’s a 3rd grade student at local primary school. The result of this study indicates that the intervention program was able to reduce time spent on assignment as the participants is less inclined to do non-assignment related activity or exhibit disruptive behavior compared to baseline. Further, Rudi’s grade also showed significant increase during the process and follow-up measurement.

Abstract

The Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) is widely experienced by individuals in the digital era. Various studies have shown that FoMO adversely affects on the physical and psychological conditions of individuals who experience it. On the other hand, some experts argue that gratitude can be a protective factor from the emergence of FoMO. This study aims to determine the role of gratitude on FoMO among digital native generation. This study used a quantitative approach, conducted in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) with an online survey through psytoolkit. This study was participated by 599 respondents with nonprobability accidental sampling method. The data collection tool used was the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) scale and the Indonesian version of the gratitude scale. The data analysis technique used was simple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS 24. The hypothesis of this study is accepted, that it is stated that there is an effect of gratitude on FoMO in digital native generation with a coefficient of determination by 0.077, which means that the effect of gratitude on FoMO is 7,7% with the regression line equation of Y= 49,248 + (-0,090)X.
