Abstract

Introduction: Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) is a common illness in children under five years old. The incidence of ARI in developing countries is ten times more than in developed countries. There are many risk factors for ARI, such as breastfeeding. Aim: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding with the occurrence of recurrent ARI in children under five. Method: This research uses an analytic research design with an observational study type and a cross-sectional study method. The numbers of samples in this study were 203 samples and tested using the chi-square test. The data of 203 samples in this study were obtained from primary data with structured interviews regarding exclusive breastfeeding and secondary data by looking at the patient's medical records regarding the occurrence of recurrent ARI. From 203 selected samples, 47.3% are exclusively breastfed, and 52.7% are not exclusive breastfeeding. Recurrent ARI events were calculated over the past year with the criteria for ARI greater than or equal to six times. Result: The results of this study are that 53.7% of samples do not have recurrent ARI, and 46.3% of samples have recurrent ARI. The results of this study show a p-value of 0.00, which means there is a significant relationship of exclusive breastfeeding with the occurrence of recurrent ARI in children under five years old. Conclusion: The incidence of Recurrent ARI in children under five years old with exclusive breastfeeding history is lower than children under five years old without exclusive breastfeeding history.

Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. History of tuberculosis contact has consequences for TB infection. Density of occupancy may also accelerate TB transmission. Tuberculin test is a screening method that can detect TB infection. However, BCG immunization can reduce the specificity of tuberculin test results because it causes false positive results. Aim: The aim of this study is to see the relationship between history of TB contact and tuberculin test results. Other variables related to tuberculin test results were also examined i.e. occupancy density and incidence of BCG immunization. Methods: This research was conducted with cross-sectional analytic design using contingency coefficient test with a value of ? = 0.1. TB contacts subjects were taken from Surabaya Pulmonary Hospital and non-TB contacts subjects were volunteers from Medical Faculty of Widya Mandala Catholic University volunteers and Medical Faculty of Wijaya Kusuma. Each group consisted of 25 people taken using consecutive sampling technique. There is a significant correlation between history of tuberculosis contact and tuberculin test (p = 0,000); There is no significant correlation between BCG immunization history and tuberculin test results (p = 0.221) Result: There is a significant correlation between occupancy density and tuberculin test results (p = 0.066). Conclusion: It can be concluded that history of tuberculosis contact and occupancy density are associated with positive tuberculin test results.

Abstract

Background: Gallbladder adhesion is a complication which causes difficulty in cholecystectomy. The author aims to seek for a test that could be used as a predictor factor for gallbladder adhesion. In this research, the elevated white blood cell (leukocyte) count is the factor studied. Aim: This study aims to seek for correlation between leukocytosis and gallbladder adhesion on cholecystectomy patients. Method: This research is an observational analytic study using cross sectional design. The independent variable in this research is leukocytosis, and the dependent variable is gallbladder adhesion. Analysis in this research is carried out with Chi-Square test, using a total sampling of 45 medical records of cholecystectomy patients at X Hospital. Result: The majority of cholelithiasis patients in this research were between 50-59 years old (33,3%), with a mean of 51 years old. The number of cholelithiasis patient was dominated by female (62,2%). According to the cholecystectomy procedure, 26 patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (58,8%). According to clinical presentation, pain in the upper right of the abdomen was experienced by 25 patients (55,6%). Complication suffered by patients was mostly cholecystitis (n=44), yielding the number of 97,8%, followed by gallbladder adhesion in 34 patients (75,6%). Leukocytosis, which is assumed to be the predictor factor of gallbladder adhesion, was found in 15 patients (33,3%). The Chi-Square test showed no significant correlation between the two variable studied (p=0,62). Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between leukocytosis and gallbladder adhesion in cholecystectomy patients.
