Journal of Widya Medika Junioris our faculty's very first project in publishing the students' research, making them available for both students and faculty members to read. It is an endeavour to nurture our students' passion in doing scientific research through which process they will be encouraged to develop critical thinking, academic writing, an in-depth analysis of a particular topic using scientific method, and eventually produce knowledge.

Abstract

Introduction: The impact of irregular menstruation can be serious if not treated quickly. Irregular menstruation can be a sign that the cycle they are going through is not ovulating so a woman who experiences this tends to have difficulty having children. The cause of irregular menstrual cycles can be due to several factors, including hormonal changes caused by stress. Objective: To determine the relationship between stress levels and menstrual cycle regularity in female students at the Faculty of Medicine, Widya Mandala Catholic University, Surabaya.Method: The design used in this research is observational analytic with a cross-sectional study approach. The total sample for this study was 116 respondents taken using simple random sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out online using a Google form which contained a questionnaire related to stress levels and menstrual cycle regularity. Results: Most respondents experienced moderate stress, 49.1%, and 50.9% experienced irregular menstrual cycles. Based on the results of statistical tests using the Spearman correlation test, the values obtained were p = 0.000 and r = - 0.938, which shows that there is a negative and significant correlation between stress levels and menstrual cycle regularity in female students at the Faculty of Medicine, Widya Mandala Catholic University, Surabaya. Conclusion: There is a relationship between stress levels and menstrual cycle regularity in female students at the Faculty of Medicine, Widya Mandala Catholic University, Surabaya.

Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is a malignant neoplasm that grows from cells originating from the cervix in the uterus. Leiomyosarcoma is a type of neck cancer that is relatively rare, data from the USA shows an incidence rate of only 0.35-0.64 per 100,000 women. Objective: This paper reports on the management of leiomyosarcoma cases at PHC Surabaya Hospital.Case Report: A 45-year-old female patient complained of continuous menstruation. An ultrasound was performed, and a biopsy was planned due to the mass found during the ultrasound. The biopsy showed cervical malignancy. A total hysterectomy, and bilateral oophorectomy, were performed and a PA examination was carried out on the uterine samples resulting from the operation the results, were leiomyosarcoma, high-grade, cervix, invasion in the stroma of the parametrium, vaginal cuff and both sides of the lymph nodes were free of tumor (pt1b3 n0mx)Conclusion: The patient was treated for 3 days at PHC Hospital after surgery and went home without complications from the surgical wound. The patient returned to control after 6 months with signs of tumor recurrence and negative metastases.

Abstract

Background: In the world of education, studying and learning is required. To keep up with technological advances, learning methods and media are needed that can help students learn. In this research, PHAGO is an interactive learning media which aims to help students understand pharmacology material better and to determine student attitudes and understanding. In this study, the field of urology in geriatrics was chosen because geriatrics is the flagship of FK UKWMS and urology is one of the fields of medicine where geriatric patients often experience disorders.Purpose: To study the influence of geriatric pharmacology digital interactive learning media in the field of urology on the understanding and attitudes of students at the Widya Mandala Faculty of Medicine, Surabaya class of 2020.Method: This research method is pre-experimental research with a One Group PrePost Design research design, namely a research design that provides pre- initial test and questionnaire before administering PHAGO and administering the post-test and final questionnaire after administering PHAGO. The sampling technique in this research is simple random sampling. Sampling was the result of random student pre-tests and post-tests by researchers as well as initial questionnaires and final questionnaires. Statistical analysis for this study used the Wilcoxon Test because the data was not distributed normally. Results: Samples were taken on 21 August 2023 and 11 September 2023 with a total sample of 50 students from the class of 2020 who had never used PHAGO before. The research results obtained are that PHAGO can help students understand pharmacology material and change students’ attitudes from being lazy to being more diligent and an increase in the average value from 25.20 to 55.60 also confirmed the effect of PHAGO on student understanding. Wilcoxon test also gives meaningful results (p = 0.000).Conclusion: It can be concluded that PHAGO has had a good influence on FK UKWMS students’ class of 2020.

Abstract

Introduction: Proper macronutrient intake, including carbohydrates, protein, and fat, is essential for promoting overall well-being and enhancing physical performance. Adequate food intake is helpful to replenish energy stores during physical activities such as training, competition, or recovering.Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the energy and macronutrient intake habits of male volleyball players who received nutritional counseling as an intervention. Methods: This study was an experimental with one group pre and post test design, conducted on ten male volleyball athletes aged 16-22 years in Jember Regency. The data collection included anthropometric measurements, hydration state, biochemical status, and the the participant's food intake. Data of food intake was gathered on two occasions, specifically prior and following the intervention using 24-hour food recall questionnaire.Result: There was no significant difference in the mean intake of energy, protein, fa t, and carbohydrates before and after the intervention (p>0.05), however there was a tendency towards an increase in the mean intake of energy, protein, and carbohydrates after the intervention. Conclusion: Nutritional counseling proves beneficial in enhancing the energy and macronutrient consumption of male volleyball athletes, although not statistically significant.

Abstract

Introduction: A fingertip injury is an injury to the most distal part of the fingers. Anatomically, the fingertip can be defined as the part located distal to the insertion of the flexor digitorum superficialis and extensor digitorum tendons on the distal phalanx, or the interphalangeal joint if referring to the thumb.Case Report: A male patient, approximately 40 years old, with an Allen grade III fingertip injury on the right ring finger due to a work accident, was brought to the Emergency Department. The patient was informed that he would undergo an occlusive dressing procedure with local anaesthesia. Evaluation three months after injury showed optimal improvement in both the cosmetic appearance and function of the ring finger. Conclusion: Semi-occlusive dressing may be more feasible than operative treatment because of its simple technique while still be able to give satisfactory results for the patient. However, there are several conditions where operative treatment is more preferable than conservative treatment. The patient’s preferences, existing comorbidities, and the degree of injury should always be assessed before choosing any treatment option.

Abstract

Introduction. Submaximal exercise uses intensity below 85% of the predicted maximum pulse for age. One example of a submaximal exercise is the Three-minutes step test (TMST) which is practical, easy to implement in the subject's routine, and has clear measurement standards. After TMST is done, VO2max can be calculated which is the main indicator used to determine cardiorespiratory capacity. There have been no studies evaluating the effect of submaximal exercise and VO2max on domain attention in healthy adults.Aim. This study aim to evaluate effect submaximal exercise on the attention of healty adults.Material and method. Using a controlled before-and-after study, sixty healthy adults, aged 25-40 years, were divided into control and intervention groups (TMST). Attention function was measured with SDMT (Symbol Digit Modalities Test) before and after TMST or 3 minutes rest.Result. There was a significant difference in the intervention and control groups (p values <0.001 and 0.0029). The values of SDMT in the intervention group with the control group were significant with the p-value is <0.0001. The effect of the TMST intervention on SDMT was significant, with p values <0.0001.Conclusion. Submaximal exercise can improve attention function in healthy adults.
